Hi Jerry. Thanks for watching and your message. Until you mentioned it I hadn’t thought about a specific video showing the plants in flower, although they would feature in my monthly update videos. I assume you are now starting your bulbs, have you any specific varieties or just gone for a nice mix collection?

@@diyhomeandgardening I purchased two packs of all different colors at Walmart there were eight bulbs in the bag I believe I said they need to be planted 4 inches deep so I'm going to try to get some more to pastel colors and plant 1 pastel packet dinner regular brighter color packed another pastel didn't end up with a brighter color but each one of them is all different colors

@@jerryholston6536 Personally I like seeing Gladioli as a mix. Once the corms are sprouted and, weather permitting, you can plant out then it’s definitely beneficial to plant at about 3-4 inches deep if possible. The depth provides more stability for the flowering stem. If you can’t plant that deep then you will need to do as I did last year and use canes to provide support. Keep up the good work 🌼

Are these paint trays? Great idea! Do you need any draining holes in these for gladioli bulbs?
@diyhomeandgardening
@diyhomeandgardening 3 жыл бұрын
They are actually old seed trays but paint trays, with some holes for drainage, would work really well too.

That’s no problem. We all have to start with learning the basics so don’t apologise for not knowing. I still make mistakes every season and I’ve been in horticulture for ever😂

Great! How often do you water the bulbs before they go outside?
@diyhomeandgardening
@diyhomeandgardening 4 ай бұрын
Hi Maddie. Thanks for watching and your question. Until the corms have started to produce roots I don’t water. Once there is root formation I give the corms a good drink, with subsequent watering only happening again once the compost has dried. Gladioli prefer being slightly on the dry side, with the soil being free draining. Enjoy the flowers 🌺

Will 3 weeks in a shed be ok? I’m gonna be away right at the time that I want to get them started
@diyhomeandgardening
@diyhomeandgardening Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the question and for watching. The main thing is that you start them off in an area that is protected from the colder weather. If a shed is what you have then that is better than leaving in a packet. If you happen to find space in a cool room in the house or a conservatory that’s even better. Enjoy your break away 🌼

Hi Maddie, As I watered mine the other day I probably won’t water the corms again between now and planting out, which will be mid April. Hope your plants put on a good show of colour for you 🌸🌼

Hi and thanks for the message. I don’t sell products on my site. These seed trays actually belonged to my mum so are about 40 years old!! Not bad use for a plastic tray. Garden centres are you best place to purchase seed trays from as they come in a wide range of sizes.
