I have a problem I hope you can help me with. I did a mosaic table top out of a scrap piece of wood and before I grouted it I loved it. I grouted with a medium grey and the character all disappeared. So I tried regrouting over the grey with black and it still isn’t right. Do you have any suggestions if I try to make this again? Is there a way I can send you photos?

I just went to Rome and scheduled two 3 hour classes. I always dreamed of coining mosaics. They took a plain piece of wood (unfinished) a paint brush and white glue. They taught us how to use the tools and cut marble. I don’t know where to begin from here. This video saved me from getting in too deep with no direction. Thank you so much.

This is a great video I relate a lot with all the beginner mistakes, I have been hoarding so many different materials and tools for 12mths now and I have made 2 gazing balls and a bee bath and then I mosaicked a gecko did this on mesh and then hit a wall because I couldn’t work out what the background should be. That poor gecko is just sitting floating because I just don’t know what background to put when the central piece is done in mixed bright colours. Last week I decided to try starting again and I chose to do the head and neck portion of a toucan, so again lots of bold colours, I am completing this one on a large cement paver but I am hitting a wall again because I don’t know what to do in the background. Would love a discussion around backgrounds. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and making it easy to understand ❤

Hello sweet Julie! I have watched and rewatched your videos. I LOVE you so much, but not like a stalker type. That would be creepy! This video hits close to home. I’ve been doing mosaics for 9 years. I started & stopped with picture frames. During Covid lockdown I hit a rut and realized I disliked my earlier work because my grout lines were too wide. I was so disappointed about all that hard work and wasted a lot of glass. 2024 arrived and I saw some of your videos in my feed and I thought yes, I’m going to get back at it since I have all the supplies and wanted to use a different substrate. I took a couple of class by a lady I met in the Mosaic Mentoring FB group. Between your videos and taking the classes it sure has given me the motivation to move my mosaic operation from a cold shed to the kitchen table. I just learned how to use apoxy in bezels. LOL I bought white instead of black & used too much. So lesson learned after picking a lot of it out with a tooth pick so I can grout with charcoal. Then some of the tessera in the bezels were too tight. Rose got her groove back! Thank you for doing what you do Julie and sorry I’m long winded. Today, I could have made a blooper reel but I would been bleeping a lot of it. ❤️

I have a glazed bathroom countertop, Given to me by a friend. I am wondering if I can mosaic on top of it and use it as my substrate?

Hi Cindy! Yes, you can mosaic on top of glazed ceramic. I would use an adhesive like a cement-based adhesive or silicone. Skip the PVA glue. Sounds like a fun project! Enjoy!! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

You speak about sketching outside. Not everyone has the time for that. How about using a child's coloring book! The drawings will be simple and can depict a character that will be fun to do in mosaic like Hello Kitty, or BarBar. There are on-line templates too for mosaics.
