Core Strength: A Poem Every movement, that you do goes through The Core. If you're throwing a ball, If you're climbing a wall. Even sweeping the floor, It all has to do With the Core.

Great stuff keep getting it out there this needs to enter mainstream fitness industry! Natural movement, natural parkour, mov nat etc are the best. I'm 56 and been getting into movement related exercise over the last four months or so and it is starting to have amazing effects on me! The best part is that it is effective and can be done anywhere especially great when done out in nature!

Everything you say and demonstrate here is Bible truth and worth its weight in gold. There’s no bypassing any of these points. I can testify that all your recommended drills here are as effective as can be (used to hate them but now I do them to get stronger). However, it still takes time, patience, and proper nutrition to get body into position for movement.

Hey! Quick question. Is movnat, the natural method etc. A "primal workout" or is it just ido portals movement training that is classified as a "primal workout" ?
@TappBrothers
@TappBrothers 4 жыл бұрын
Great question, yes, I would say MovNat or the natural method is the ultimate primal workout. The natural method (la méthode naturelle) has influenced much of movement training or animalistic/functional bodyweight training that we see today. Obstacle courses & parkour have links to the natural method as well. The Primal workout is just a term to allow people to identify this type of training. More focus on minimalist style body weight training. MovNat and the Natural Method is a specific practice with philosophy and organized body. The Natural Method (la méthode naturelle) was created by Georges Hébert (French Naval Officer) and is a system of physical education. Wikipedia has a helpful article to learn more of Georges Hébert and la méthode naturelle here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Hébert . What we teach on this channel is influenced from Georges Hébert and his work. I believe Ido Portal´s movement training is Ido Portal's movement training. Meaning he called it this to fit exactly his philosophy of training and exercise. I see it as a primal style of training but would need to ask him. I know he has a background in capoeira, which likely influences his training methods and I would assume he has some influence from the natural method as well.

Great video and advice as usual, thanks, Thomas and Jonathan. I´ve got a question, please answer me ;) Is it advisable carrying out the hollow position on a daily basis or every other day? Thanks again and thanks in advance, masters.
@TappBrothers
@TappBrothers 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel, great to see you again, hope all is well! I would say the hollow position can be performed daily, it's low resistance for most. You will find gymnasts in there training perform this shape on a daily basis. However, this depends on your fitness level as well. If performing the hollow position or if held for extended periods of time, makes the practitioner sore, then I would allow the muscles to rest and then return back to the movement every other day or longer, until the core is stronger.

Question regarding the bridge movement, I thought I recently saw one of your videos that said arching the back is not good as it wears the discs -- like the Superman movement. So wouldn't the bridge movement be bad then?
@TappBrothers
@TappBrothers 4 жыл бұрын
This is a great question, first, arching the back or flexion with the spine is not necessarily a bad thing. A goal for us is to have flexibility with the spine. The trouble can come when there is a lot of weight or load placed on the discs or spine during this flexion. For an example, the cat cow movement in yoga, the practitioner arches and rounds the spine a considerable amount. However, in this cat-cow position, much of the weight or load is distributed into the arms and knees. Not much load is placed on the spine during this flexion. So the risk of damage or injury will go down considerably. The superman exercise, is often performed quickly, lifting the upper body and lower body simultaneously and the load will go directly into the low back/spine. Now if the practitioner has adequate core strength and back flexibility to begin with, they usually can perform the superman exercise with no issue. However, the risk of low back pain or injury is higher due to the load placed into the lower back and quick performance of the exercise. If the practitioner has poor core strength, fatigued, and/or poor flexibility in the back, the risk of injury goes up higher. Also with testing they found the risks of injury or damage are higher when there are repeated flexions with these loads. For example, sit ups and superman raises are typically performed with continuous reps. So repeated spine flexion with load. Now, does this mean that anyone who performs a lot of sit ups or superman raises a day or in their workout will have spine damage or back pain? No, there are a lot of factors into play. For example, genetics, body structure, and of course (core strength and flexibility) will have an impact. Say an NFL line backer vs a yogi instructor or more realistically a middle aged man (15-20lbs overweight) just getting back into exercise vs a trained athlete. The risks will be different. However, we like to look at the exercise and see what are the risks of injury (especially for beginner practitioners) and how effective is the exercise for core strength and performance? Are there alternative exercises that lower the risk of injury and are just as effective for strength and performance? We found this to be the case with the superman raise and sit up. Now, with the back bridge position, we made sure to preface with, this is a more advanced progression. For movement training, this arch/bridge position is important to master. You will notice a couple things with this exercise that take away some of the risks. The weight is placed into the hands and feet and there is not repeated flexions. However, this can still be risky, if the practitioner has poor upper body flexibility/mobility in thoracic spine and shoulders. Or if the practitioner lifts too high and the back hyper extends. Also if the practitioner has weak upper body strength and can not hold themselves up properly. You can definitely injure yourself or when performing the bridge you and for most beginners it will not be a go to exercise until they have required enough strength and flexibility. Really appreciate the question on this and I would have liked to clarify this more in this video. We will film another video on this specific topic and share in the near future!

Hey man, I really appreciate the energy and trying to educate people about movement training. However, it seems to me after watching this video that you're completely misinterpreting what movement training is about. It's not about core strength, balance, and mobility- those are general fitness concepts. Movement training is about movement INTELLIGENCE, and the ability to digest, create, and perform complex movements. Strength, balance, and mobility may be components that could help contribute to this, but it'd be like you're trying to bake a cake by putting raw dough in the oven and then dumping sugar on top.

This rings true with almost everything, I especially see this with nutrition. Big influences can be genetics. For my bro and I, we love to move and train primarily bodyweight exercises. However, to each their own! If the weight room is where one feels best and stays fit, keep with it 💪

@@TappBrothers Who said weight room??? I've never lifted a weight or been in a gym in my 45 years, but I have studied yoga for 35 of them. Lifting weights ultimately does more harm than good, how many elderly bodybuilders do you run across?! Very few. I think what you guys are doing is wonderful, but it's always smart to inform others that it may not work for them no matter how hard you try, just as I tell my Yoga students. The exercises and poses are great, but reality is that it takes an enormous amount of mental toughness to achieve any physical goal.

I see what you are saying and appreciate the kind words! Yoga is, in my opinion, one of the best disciplines one can practice. However, I'm curious what you mean by "it may not work for them no matter how hard you try"? Are you referring to the extreme moves like splits, or ninja warrior skills shown in the video? Or getting started in movement training - core strength, balance, and mobility?
