I’m a researcher at heart. This is probably the 208th video I’ve watched on Etsy shops ALONE! Not building websites, choosing products, small business start ups...just Etsy. And you have added value only 9 minutes in. Thank you👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

if you are starting a business, realize that using etsy is ok for supplemental sells, but not rely on them for all sells, because what happens if something happens to etsy? another thing to think about with etsy, is do you want to rely on them to pay for certain of your business expenses, because they are in essence, a business partner if they are hosting your listing of your items. they are paying the bandwidth for each person viewing your page. just like you have to pay for internet to watch youtube or use socmedia. if you do your own website and not use etsy, you will be paying the business costs monthly associated with running a business online. so you have to ask yourself, do you want your business to be solely yours and pay all your business expenses and you have full control over every aspect, or do you want to have a business partner like etsy, who is paying to host your business site on their platform and making changes to policies whenever they choose whether you agree or not. another thing, you could use etsy to start your business and get some traffic and then transition your business over to your own site after you have success on etsy. good thing with etsy is you can sever the relationship whenever you choose, if they make a change you dont agree with or come up with new policy. sorry for the novel, but i wanted to try and show valid info. i did podcasting im the early days of it, and i paid all the expenses incurred from having the podcast.

I would say in the crafting community and others too that you do have favourite shops that you check regularly and do repeat business with. Good product + good service = repeat customers

This is exactly what I was looking for. Not a 20 something girl getting into selling lashes or fake nails from her bedroom at her parents’ house. You are someone who has put some thinking into this video and your intellect and experience is appreciated. And you are kindly sharing this information to empower other women. I am serious about my business and it’s potential. Thanks for your information.

So glad I found your videos. Helped me so much. I've been intimidated for years by the whole process. I'm retired now and need to go for it. Been doing craft shows for years and people love my handmade girl's clothes. I now have a 6 needle embroidery machine. I've done pillows, wreaths, blankets, bibs, bummies, leggings, (really love the last 2), birthday shirts and tutus, headbands, bags, etc. My target would be mothers. I just don't know what my niche should be. I love to make so many things. Thinking of "Tennessee Tot and Mom" to have something for both of them. Any suggestions please.

What are bummies? I like the name Mom and Tots. I think that's a great store name whether physical or online.

Hi. I’ve been procrastinating about selling my up-cycled jewellery for ages but they are ‘one off’ designs. Would this be a problem with shop ‘visibility’ /advertising for selling on Etsy. Hope my question makes sense.
@EverySingleDollar3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not! There are a ton of vintage shops on etsy that sell one off pieces. Let us know your shop name as soon as it's live. Good luck!

How long should somebody stay on etsy if they are first starting out before moving to their own website? Because i dont know how to market my own stuff 100% if i just had my own website first.
@EverySingleDollar3 жыл бұрын
That depends. Do you have a following on social media. If you have a following I would just sell there. Selling on my website only costs me 3.5% in credit card fees but other platforms are well over 10%. BUT I get a ton of traffic on platforms like etsy and ebay. Do you have an email list? I'd start building one so you can market directly. Sorry, that was a long response.

This is a great video, thanks for sharing your tips! I’ve really been debating starting an Etsy shop for hand embroidered items - it’s a high demand area but it’s also super saturated! So I can’t decide if it’s worth it or not; my items would have a specific theme but it’s still a daunting idea.....any thoughts/tips on entering a seemingly saturated market with some success?
@EverySingleDollar4 жыл бұрын
So, I did a quick search for you and my advice is to niche down and specialize in a specific type of hand embroidered item, like sweatshirts. Sweatshirts don't have a ton of competition and it has about 390 searches on google last month. Good luck and I absolutely support you starting a shop. Leave a link to it in the comments so we can all support you!

I see people showing the process of making their items and it makes me think, “I could do that.” Does this work against you? Like people could see how to do it themselves? Or it that only a problem with crafters, lol?
@EverySingleDollar3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. In the end we're all a member of the Etsy community and short of 100% copying someone's product, we try to do what we can to help each other. I'm in a facebook group with 35,000 makers and everyone is always willing to answer any question I may have. There are hundreds of people on Etsy selling stickers, but every sticker set has its own twist.

I make my own unique nail polish colors that i put in small skull shaped bottles and wrap as a gift bag each containing 3 random colors. I'm old school goth and I've been told by many people I should be selling these on Etsy. After watching this and several vids I'm now terrified and completely lost. Your vid is BY FAR the least intimidating. I guess I love the creative part but the selling process is above me. I'm not trying to "get rich quick" or expecting huge financial gain. I just love my product and enjoy sharing it but a few extra bucks wouldn't hurt. Am I aiming too high with attempting to use Etsy ?

I'm afraid you are contradicting yourself, you said you already have your online shop and selling with social media but u wanna use Etsy bcos of the traffic. All good but then why would you advertise for Etsy in FB market? if u have to pay for ads then use your own website and bring the traffic to ur own website, not on Etsy.
@EverySingleDollar3 жыл бұрын
I should have been more clear. I owned a brick and mortar business and all of my website traffic was from my local community. It’s a very limited audience and my website isn’t built for e-commerce like a Shopify store.
