Dude! Capitalize on that carrot effect! This is the perfect teaching tool. I took a course with Samuel Smith on Domestika on lighting situations. I think I’m on my 15th rerun of the course because he goes too fast at critical points on the video. I couldn’t keep up with all the colors he was sampling and why! You explained volumizing a plastic object so well in a digestible way…it’d be great if you can now take that carrot and place it in different situations. A sunny day, a dark room with a lamp, a starry night. Artists are always looking for ways to improve their light rendering and a simple carrot has all the right elements without painting complicated subjects to teach light!

This is the kind of video beginners look for. Simple subject and step by step. You could do a bunch of it, from simple to more elaborate and create a Patreon. In this case you could add just a little bit more details on selecting the tools and clip mask. Great artist, great work!!!

Your tutorials are so great, I find that I struggle with layer management. It would be cool to do a draw with me where you explain what you do and how and why in real time so we can draw with you and I can see when and why you change layers or setting! similar to this video but one of your more complex drawings. Hiya, this is a very good tutorial and I can see that you’ve added it over a year ago, so your approach may have changed, but the only thing I would say is that there were certain steps missing which may make it difficult for a complete beginner to follow (especially when to paint on different layers, when to use a clipping mask etc) - I already knew about these things but had I looked this up a few months prior I would have been very frustrated and probably struggled to follow.

i didn't chatch how you did the masking. like how did the shadow of the carrot stays in between the color? what did you do cause i used the clipping mask so i needed 2 layers and you only had one or am i just misunderstanding something?

Hello Weve, so what I did is something colled Alpha Lock. If you tap on any layer, you will see the option in the menu. Once you activate it, you can draw over it and you will not draw outside the shape

Hello and welcome, actually this is the most beginner video that I have for procreate and I have another one for Photoshop (depending on what are you using). And the brushes I have a FREE sample pack, but I think that the majority of the brushes are from the LP BRUSH pack.

Which Ipad would you suggest? I was thinking about picking the regular Ipad (2021) since Ipad pro/air in my thoughts has just better screen and better specifications wont affect anything or am I wrong in this? thanks!

You would definitely be ok with the regular ipad. You can even get an old ipad if you are ok with the compromises. If you want to do some things like 3d modeling or editing on your ipad, then I would be thinking more on the Pro side

Aha, you can go to your canvas settings in procreate and make it bigger. Something like 3000x3000 px will be enough
