hello, I also wanted to ask how to calculate the length of the threads for the entire whip?
@JosiahWendell-sr8vi Жыл бұрын
I just measure where to where I want my layer to drop 2 strands, and multiply that length by between 1.8 and 2. multiplying by 2 will give you a bit of excess, but 1.8 tends to cut it too close for comfort, at least for diamond plait. I am not very experienced though, and if you find a more precise number I would love to know. Be safe and God Bless

I am getting into whip making myself and I just had a question. How do I do the math on the strand lengths and the core for the different bellies. I have been looking all over but I cant seem to get a straight answer. can you help me on this. please.
@sigma2.0933 жыл бұрын
Am also just starting out. For strand lengths, check out a website called Nick's Whip Shop -there's a tab on his menu button that says Strand Lengths. You'll get the measurements for whips of different lengths. Hope this helps you.

Hey! Ya, I definitely need to cover how I make my cores sometime. And I use rug liner for my bolsters :-)
@bayouguy97585 жыл бұрын
@@whipworks4468 also, how do you determine the length of your cores?
@whipworks44685 жыл бұрын
@@bayouguy9758 It depends on the length of the whip, and I'm constantly slightly altering how long the loaded core of the whip is based on previous iterations. It's about how heavy or light of a whip you want. For instance, right now, I have a 13" loaded core on my six footers.

When I plait the overlay on my whips, it starts out nice and centered, but when I get close to the bottom it starts spiraling. It still has a nice roll out thow . How can I keep it from spiraling in other whip projects?

@frododavis90825 жыл бұрын
vice jaws are loose thank you for the video, I learned some knowledge. I have a question, why are you diamond plating on the bellies?
@whipworks44685 жыл бұрын
Hey Frodo, thanks for watching! I don't use a diamond pattern all the way through the bellies, only at that beginning portion. I use it at the beginning portions because it helps to lock the independent strands in a little bit, giving them a little structure and making them easier to handle. I hope this was helpful!

I tried your method and the first thing i did was pull a strand loose from the bundle that is taped [I know, I know, you warned me, ] So, .i scratched my head and found a solution that works for me when you place your strands on the tape. make them 1/2'' longer. after you have placed all your strands, tape them like you show then fold the 1/2'' extra back over the tape and secure with a piece of tape now you can pull tight as you go.
