Invest in some outdoor solar lights which can be put on a windowsill in the daytime and used on an evening. Those sml micro lights on a copper wire work in low light too. I use some in my bathroom so I don't need to put big light on in the night..

Even though there are events happening in the world, the emphasis on minor emergencies is what is important and definitely what people should focus on to begin with. In the past, I have had to evacuate my house, for 24 hours, due to a wildfire near my neighborhood. I received a reverse emergency call and was given 30 minutes to gather my children, pets, and important items. In a panic, I was flinging things in my car that I felt were important and neglected some things that were really important to me (important papers, photos, etc). I now have a go bag with back up photos and important documents. The other scenario that I experience frequently is being without electricity and heat in the midst of a windstorm or winter weather. The longest I have been out was 6 days, and I had to use some of the tools/things you mentioned to get through. As a result of this, I also purchased a heat source (Mr Buddy heater that is propane powered and is safe for indoor use). With climate change, I anticipate more of these type of events than political unrest and the things mentioned in this video will get you through.

I was watching a couple who were preppers in America. They said they always zip loc bagged personal documents photos , a list of important phone numbers incase their phone run out of power., a fresh pair of socks and underwear in their bug out bags I thought that was sound advice considering certain parts of the UK are experiencing terrible flooding.

Consider getting a radio which has solar, battery and wind-up recharging. I have one which has all of those options plus a flashlight at one end, and an orange flashing light for emergencies at the other. It cost me £25 online and is very sturdy. In your first aid kit include the following dressings: Bactigras and Inadine. These will help to avoid infections. It is best to get both kinds because Inadine contains iodine and not everybody can tolerate iodine on an open wound. For weeping wounds get a calcium alginate dressing such as Kallostat or Cutiderm. These will help stop wounds from weeping excessive moisture which may inhibit wounds healing. Ensure that you have some micropore or silicone tape because not everybody can tolerate ordinary plasters. Also include some Neosporin as a topical antibiotic option. The aim is, wherever possible, to avoid wound infections. As an alternative to gas-powered burners consider gel burners. Luminaire brand has solid fuel canisters which last six hours. A pack of six costs around 20 pounds. There is nothing that can go wrong with the gel burners. There is no mechanism that can fail or gas canisters that can fail. All you need is the gel canister, the little stove to drop it into and a box of matches. We have two Coglan folding camping stoves. They are made of solid steel and can hold a heavy saucepan. The gel fuel comes in a tin with a screw-on lid. Take the lid off, slide it into the front of your Coglan, close the door and away you go. The fuel is solid and inert until you light it. The Coglans we have are about 7 inches square and 6 inches deep. The construction ensures that the flame is protected from wind. They cost about a tenner each. You can get yourself set up with two stoves and 36 hours of cooking time for under £40.

Very refreshing to hear this sort of take. People get a bit caught up on the end of the world I think. There are events which are much more likely to happen like flooding, fire, fuel shortages, localised civil unrest, etc. when you'd be glad of a few days' to a few months' worth of supplies. Any more than that probably starts to become a liability, both in day to day life (money, space, time, etc.) and in an emergency scenario (likely to make you a target). Great video mate.

Another item I use when considering Grid down lighting are battery powered PIR lights or USB charged PIR lights (using a battery bank, much like charging a mobile phone to recharge). These are especially useful around kids and also in critical areas such as hallways, stairways, toilet/bathroom, kitchen, etc. as they turn themselves off, when no movement is detected, so prolonging battery life. On another note, as I have Grandkids living with me, is also have a supply of colouring books, pencils, felt tips, board games, etc. anything to keep kids occupied in a no Grid/Internet scenerio.

I recently started fasting for health reasons. So fast for two days break have a meal then fast etc. I'm now in my second month. The health benefits have been fantastic. It's not a problem so long as you can fill up with water. The other thing I did was I started to dehydrate food. If you add preservative and seal in a mylar bag it can last for ten years. I'm not that hardcore. Plus dehydrated food takes up a quarter of the space so you can store a lot more and it weighs 80 to 90 percent less. I also use something known as thermal cooking or passive cooking. You get you food and bring it to a rolling simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. You transfer the food to a pre heated vacuum flask and leave it to cook in it's own heat. After two to three hours it's cooked. This is an age old method and saves loads of energy and is handy if you are forced to travel. You can still have hot food on the go.

Dehydrated food has the issue it has to be rehydrated so moves the risk to your water. For home bunker-in tinned food is better eat warm/cold no water required. For house fleeing dehydrated + water treatment required, of which if it's more than 1-2 days then a camp stove + water works out lighter if you have some water.

Just a generation ago, in most countries this would be regarded as common sense and an integral part of lifestyle. Flats and houses had dedicated pantry rooms, and people used to know how to prepare for winter, how to conserve and/or can fruits, berries, vegetables, starches and meats. Now it's labelled as "prepping". By the way, filling up a bathtub is a good way of storing water if you're pressed for time. How safe would it be to practice rainwater-catchment in the UK, especially in London?

@@caridadrevilla2439I would allow the above comments to potentially mislead you. There is a difference between 'Lithium' and Lithium ion batteries. I think they are getting confused with the Li-ion cells like 18650 or the Lithium Polymer Lipo pouches. These operate at a voltage three times higher than normal AA , AAA, C, D cells the energy they hold is much more densely packed in. They can be dangerous if short circuited, over charged, or physically damaged etc. But 'Energizer' or similar 'Brands' on the high-street or supermarket offer AA and AAA lithium cells that are very good reliable and pretty safe as far as I know.

Nice, simple and calm. So many of these "prepper" videos are from crazies like "you need 1000 guns, 6 months worth of food and anti-EMP devices cos they're coming for us!". Nah it's about being a bit sensible. More of us should have a few extra bits and bobs in to help ourselves, our families and our communities out in more challenging times. It's good for self empowerment, and it's good for community resilience. Imagine if "prepping" (in fact, let's ditch that word and call it sensible resilience) had been more commonplace back in March 2020. The crazy shelf-stripping needn't have happened, as there would have been a stronger sense of calm. Be sensible, throw in a bit of logic, with a dash of humour and it'll be all right on the night* * = 72 hours may apply, terms and conditions vary :D Keep up the good work!

The main problem I have with purchasing to prepare is food and water. Canned food doesn't last forever and in most cases is months until it is considered no longer safe to eat. The other is water. Maybe the video maker is under the illusion that water can safely be stored in plastic containers, but the pthalate levels in the bloodstreams of my peers might suggest otherwise. Metal or glass are the only ideal solutions, but are costly and heavy. Also, a lot of canned goods are lined with plastic, creating the same health concerns.

My point is that preparing doesn't just involve a bit of shopping, it is requires a lifestyle change. Learning to clean water and grow your own food.
@p2snetwork
@p2snetwork 9 ай бұрын
@@adamlee2550 I disagree, having a couple of weeks extra and a go bag is fine. You don't need a life style change or grow your own to be prepared for day to day dramas. Lots of tinned foods have been found to be perfectly consumable years and years past their beat before dates providing you inspect, look, sniff, taste before consuming. Storing water in plastic food safe containers is fine if you change it out periodically. After all bottled water in UK supermarkets has a BBD of 18-24 months dependant on bottler.
