Great video, Ivy! I agree completely that having a goal in mind is crucial. Setting a goal is what allows me to build discipline and helps keep me showing up consistently, even when I don't want to run that day. My tip, as a newbie non-runner runner, is to avoid comparing yourself to others. Someone else's pace should not determine YOUR pace; go with what is within your own abilities and eventually you will get faster and go further. Be patient and show yourself grace. :)

Thank you so much for reminding me not to compare myself to others. I know that really helped me a lot when I started running. When I saw all those fast runners in the park with their good form and everyone looks like they were all experienced runners, now that I think about it, I feel like I barely doubt myself or got insecure because I told myself before hand to not compare myself to them. So just focus on your tiny victories and improvements!

Hi Ivy!! I actually used to hate running and was not a very good runner until about a year ago. When I moved out here to Utah, I started running really because I couldn’t play volleyball 4 times a week like I used to back home in Colorado. At first it was just a way to stay active, and now it’s become a big part of my routine. Lowkey the more I run, the more addicted to it I become. I now look forward to my runs because they help me clear my mind and escape the business of school and life. I’ve enjoyed pushing myself and am excited to see how much more I can push myself mentally and physically! Also excited to run the half marathon with y’all this April!! 😂

TJ! I’m so glad to see you here hahaha. You are an awesome runner, I can tell you work hard and train hard that’s why you’re a good runner. I’m glad you found peace in running. Running helps me clear my mind too and its a form of self care for me. Running is addicting and I bet after our half marathon you would want to sign up for more. I’m excited to see you at the start line!

I started running last year. I originally just wanted to finish a 5k. I found a Couch to 5K training program that got me ready. When I started, I could barely run for a minute. Now, almost a year later, I'm about to run my first half marathon non-stop. I love how there could be hundreds or thousands of people running the same race with different levels of experience and goals. There are always people in the race or on the sides cheering and encouraging anyone who needs it.

Running is addicting!!!!! I also love how we are all running the same distance, the same course, but we are all in our own race. Everyone is just supportive and encouraging. I’m glad you love running. I wish you all the best for your first half marathon!

Hi Ivy!! Great video and advice! I started running last November and I’m training for my FIRST marathon (LA marathon 🍀) which is on my birthday too! I know my goal is probably too ambitious as a beginner. But I’m going to finish what I started and then start over to train my aerobic base more. Wish me luck 😅 🍀

Thank you Karina! Someone suggested that I should run LA Marathon but it was too soon for me. That will be such a fun way to celebrate your birthday! I think every distance may sound too ambitious for beginner runner, but with hard work you'll be shock at what distances you can actually handle. I wish you all the best and have a fun run at the LA marathon.

Hey Ivy , I would say I’m also a beginner runner , but you’re definitely not a beginner after accomplishing your first marathon . Would you be willing to drop your running plan for the marathon you recently ran .

Hi! I feel like I'm still a beginner runner even if I've ran a marathon because I still have a lot to learn, but overcoming that distance definitely helps me mentally in running shorter distances. I was fortunate enough to receive a complimentary training from my charity team through Chicago Endurance Sports (CES), their training was very helpful but I believe I can't disclose their training. However, I did 4 running workouts each week, 1 longest easy run of the week, 1 speed workout, and 2 other runs that focuses on distance or time. I believe Chicago marathon also has a free training plan that's very detailed. I hope this helps!
