Wow, your 2-string idea transformed this from an overwhelming concept to a goal that I think I could realistically achieve. Thanks

That's always been my approach, I learned all 5 positions of the Pentatonic scale in 3-4 days just by focusing on 2 strings at a time, then 3, 4 and once I was playing over 5 strings the 6th string just came to me without even trying. Hearing him use the same approach for this was a big confidence boost for me because that was exactly what I was going to do lol

Forgive me for flexing here but I've been a guitar player for 25 years and have a masters degree in music - and this is by far the best KZbin channel I've seen for guitar education. You deserve the millions of followers that far poorer channels have, because you're the real deal.

After hundreds of videos about "soloing over chords tones", the part you showing "... take only two strings, and keep soloing in the same region over chords change"... man.. That unlock a lot of efficient practice time here !!! instead of be all around the chords shape which is overwhelming sometimes when chords change rapidly.... .... Millions Thanks....

Thank you so much Jared. You are a truly GREAT teacher! Calm, clear, organized and THOUGHTFUL about how to best present material that is actionable and USEFUL. No stupid clickbait claims or blustering nonsense. I've had formal music theory training and understand all the necessary intricacies. But I recently got bitten by the jazz bug (from a playing perspective) and have been shocked at how difficult theoretical knowledge is to actually implement as the changes are flying by - even for a guitarist with years of experience in other styles! That's precisely where your lessons and methods are invaluable. You provide a roadmap to ACTUALLY learning AND practicing the skills necessary to succeed and make real breakthroughs. Getting fluent takes really hard work and I love how you don't pretend otherwise - instead you provide the babysteps (as opposed to Giant Steps, haha) to actually getting there. And I love how you tie your methods into real tunes - not just a bunch of licks and diagrams in a vacuum. You really have the rare package of gifts necessary for great teaching. As someone said below, YOU should have millions of subscribers. With all due respect, Beato is a great personality, super musician and entertaining communicator, but his teaching is a hot mess. Carry on brother!

well Jared, I have to join in with a big WOW ❤🎉 and thank you! This along with the basslines with chords series, and the chord soloing, and the theory, AND the basic vocabulary, AND all the other lessons that I haven’t gotten to yet, are simply amazing. Clear. Concise. Well laid out and well explained… like my fellow students and fans of your channel... I can say as a guitarist of 50+ years… that you are the BEST music / guitar teacher I have ever had the pleasure of studying with. Your video lesson have changed my playing and understanding for the better. I feel like: You have given me a key and pulled back the veil that clouded my approach to understanding and I can see the path of focused practice ahead. My daily practice is enriched and the rewards are immediate. You are the best! ❤

Thanks Jared, I like how you say “it’s hard” because it is! Being honest about no quick fixes to learning this material is counter to many YT vids that seemingly try to click bait people with “get good fast” short cuts….there is no short cuts with this stuff.

Great video! Love the way you lay out the lesson plan with steps on how to gradually progress. I particularly found it very helpful to begin using only two strings. Often times I think my friends and I overload ourselves with too much information and we don't entirely grasp what we are trying to learn. Thank you for the great lesson plan! I will share this with others. 👍

This is freaking amazing and exactly what I need. I've been combining all your chord and arp content but applying to shapes from 3NPS positions and focusing on seeing the arps and triads within the scale notes of each position and across positions. Question- do you eventually try and tie 3 string arp shapes or more in this exercise/ see a full octave range of an arp starting on the 1 or 3 or 5 or 7 within that space? Would like to learn about what you visualize as chords change- do you anticipate and see Roots shifting? Or maybe see the chord/triad grips in that space?

This is fun. I’m gonna jump on this one after I’m done with All Of Me. So with these altered chords, you’re not too worried about covering those notes?
@soundguitar2 жыл бұрын
If you mean the extensions, correct, I just ignore everything above 7 and save those for hitting them when using the scale. Altered chords I’ll use a dom7b5 arpeggio shape

Hi Jared, I think this is a great lesson, and aspire to learn to play like this, but when i downloaded the pdf, i'm overwhelmed by the number of arpeggio shapes to learn and how to go about it. Do you advise learning the arpeggios in 1 position for the chord types used for the song, ie, Major 7/Minor 7/Dominant 7, or the longer route of learning 5 positions for each Chord Quality at a time? Thanks a lot
@soundguitar2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question, Mitch! ** I advise to do exactly both of those. Both are important. Definitely be working on a song. But if we only do that then we create gaps. So also work on the methodical purely vocabulary shape approach too, but if we only do that then we’re never working on real music. Thanks for asking!

powerfull stuff to internalize...
@vincej15120 күн бұрын
Hi Jared! One problem I have: fundamental to chord tone soloing is you must have memorised the chords within the song, AND be able to play all those chords from a comping perspective, correct? That means you can not just pick up a guitar and improvise over it without knowing the song. Correct?
@brookeaday94232 жыл бұрын
Maybe a more basic intro that hits on this concept could begin with a moving bass line following he chords? The concept seems to be the same but on an easier level to build momentum. Thoughts? My fretboard knowledge is spotty...

I think the hardest part is to count enough 8 notes or 4 beats while phrasing. I gotta listen for the chord change to know when to change arpeggio, really hard to count in mind have i finished one bar :(
@brookeaday94232 жыл бұрын
Tough one.... You need bulletproof awareness of the fingerboard notes for this and not just quick changes to the tonic but also moving in and out of minor/major scales to match the chord tones for that bar. Correct?
@billn8557 Жыл бұрын
I dont understand what your trying to accomplish? The shapes in a position or the four voices by number? If the latter ,your chord tone arpeggio is kind of useless unless I stop and search your chart every time I change chords which would be not only "daunting" but way frustrating and headache inducing.If its the shaping your trying to relay...that would make more sense but the note numbers wouldnt be needed in that case..Im all for practicing if theres an end to the means.Maybe Im missing something.
