Lee’s Listers

With only a few weeks to go till the Neunen International Stationary Engine Rally in Holland it was time to give the Lister X Type a quick run to check everything was still good with it before the rally.
This video is a talk though the starting process of getting the engine going along with a explanation of what some of the parts are as the X Type is very much unique in the range of Listers, hardly sharing any parts with any of the others at all, making it very unique. Been an industrial use only engine too, survival rates of them is very low compared to the rest of the range. It is believe that there is around 15 left surviving world wide with this been 1 of 2 (there was 3 but it appears to have vanished off the face of the earth) in the UK
As I mention in the video, the paint is missing from when I loaded it up working it hard. The link for that video is here

I don’t own a copy but I do have a scan of an electric copy. This engine was featured in that issue (if I remember correctly) along with a couple more issues too over the years. To say it moved into preservation in around 1990, it’s not swapped hands many times unlike a lot of engines on the scene.

This is super cool and I'll be subscribing. But holy hell dude. Please get some ear plugs and swap that exhaust to keep from blowing in your face. Thanks for the engine video and look forward to others.

Please do subscribe! The exhaust is only turned this was round for storage and as I only took a basic few tools with me it wasn’t swapped upwards with the silencer screwed on either.

Love watching your video, cheers. I got a 1949 Lister Junior B in Western Sydney. This is my first pump and I'm going to fire it up in a month's time 👍

Thank you! You’ll be hooked for more once you get it going! It never stops at just 1 engine!

Best rally by far anywhere! It’s not cheap to go as close by but it’s definitely worth it! Will be our second year and it was just great!

Quite a rare engine. Think they were made for mainly export

They are a very rare engine! They was made mainly for industrial use really but here in the UK Diesel was taking off fast that time in life so they soon become redundant, yet in other parts of the world petrol was still a lot more popular so, yes a lot ended up been exported but they wasn’t made solely for export

There’s no tinkering to do to get it sweet 👌🏼 just some fresh fuel and warmth though the cylinders and it’ll be different again!

It looked like the way you stop it is by reopening the decompression valves, is that right?
@leeslisters
@leeslisters 12 күн бұрын
So I turned the fuel supply off at the carb on the needle but I always open one of the de compression taps when it’s close to stopping and then the other just as it’s about to stop as by what you can see form the video it’s a “spitter” and does like to throw fuel, smoke and flames out of the carb! So as a precaution I always open the taps guaranteeing that it’s not going to rock back on compression and throw a load of surprises out of the carburettor into my face!
