I will try your method and treat myself better in the beginning and write down my training program. Thanks.. Very interesting insights. I this happens a lot. We had a lady in our freediving club which was very advanced. She quit and sold all her gear at some point,, simple because she realised that she did not enjoy it no longer to push herself so hard. How long do you rest/breath between each of the 4 breath holds? The CO2 Tables I have been using run a series of 8 breath holds of the same duration with the rest interval deccreasing 15 sec each time. Example 2 min hold 1:45 rest with the last two 2 min hold 30 sec rest

I rest until my breathing is normal, meaning the CO² has returned to its natural level. Each breath hold should be started with the same amount of CO², this is how you can gauge if you are improving or not.

I pushed my limit about 7 months ago and hit 4:30, but after a little bit I started to only be able to hit about 3:30 minutes then I gave up. maybe I overworked myself? I can consistently get to 2:30 with no breathing exercises/discomfort, and with breathing exercises and a bit of discomfort probably more around 3:30. I assume I should just practice doing holds around or a little longer than 2:30 for now
@cwillatts
@cwillatts 3 жыл бұрын
Been doing this for a week or two now and increased my comfort zone by 50% so far. As I progress I notice that my first hold invariably sucks although it's sucking slightly less as sessions go by. Discomfort and contractions can often start early. Do you think doing a 1 Min warm up hold would be a good idea before the 4 holds? I'm doing mindful breathing and/ or alternate nostril breathing for a few minutes before starting.
@freedivepassion9498
@freedivepassion9498 3 жыл бұрын
It's normal for the first one to be more challenging. Doing a warm up will help with this, I tend to breath a bit more before the first hold to counteract the faster urge to breathe
@ferrangrau8392
@ferrangrau8392 11 ай бұрын
You talk about contractions and the tough zone. When I hols my breath my though zone prolongs a lot before i feel any contractions (I cant actually force it in dry). The tough zone requires contractions or you are refering the urge to breath after the confort zone?
@freedivepassion9498
@freedivepassion9498 7 ай бұрын
It could be that what you are feeling is due to anxiety, and not CO2. So training the mind not to project and to be at peace in the moment may help push back the "tough" part until you feel higher levels of CO2

@freedivepassion9498
@freedivepassion9498 Жыл бұрын
How often you trai depends on the intensity you train at. You could breath hold daily at the appropriate level. CO2 tolerance is best created with high repetitive holds regularly, like 5 x per week. I have never heard of a correlation between pure STA and iron levels. Only deep diving and hemoglobin.

Hi Harry, do you do this training with a few warm up breath holds before you start the session, or is this training is to build a no warm up base hold? I’m one of those lucky few that gets super early contractions. Without warm up for dry static, I’ll always feel a minor contractions around the same time on the first lap and it gets uncomfortable really early. But on my second lap onwards, it comes a little later.
@freedivepassion9498
@freedivepassion9498 4 жыл бұрын
Everyone has a harder first hold, so warm up is an option. Personally I do 5 deeper breaths on my first hold (slight hyperventilation) to compensate for this. Then the following holds are with tidal breathing before hand.

I've been watching breath hold videos lately to include freediving videos because I'm gassing out in my martial arts training. Do you think that this kind of CO2 training would help me improve my endurance and cardio for martial arts?

Can you do this training sitting cross legs? Is it OK.

The amount of time you can hold your breath will be reduced, so 3.00 without contractions is unlikely. But apart from that, it is ok

Hi, I practice buteyko. We breath hold after the exhale. Do You have any experience with this method?

We train that way in freediving. It can also be used to simulate altitude training if done in the right way.

How quickly you can progress depends on your history and comfort in the water, the quality of your coach and not allowing any mental blocks to appear. Best of luck

Most of the tourists keep them selves close to the shore 😁 so I have no need to go any deeper than like 2m lol in reality. About metal blocks, what would be the most common?

Most people do 2 mins on their first day of a freediving course. Not that you are bad, it's just having someone to guide you makes a big difference.
