I was able to start in pole but the question is, will I be able to stay up front? I am racing in PSVR2 and I will share my tips and tricks for GT7 that help me and can help you stay competitive even as a casual sim racer like myself.

Great tips. Not many are using it in this race but the Hurrican is a very stable car for consistency in this race.

Spa is one of my favorite tracks, driven that a lot. I’m a lot better driving it than I was a month ago. The last turn before the start/finish always gave me a hard time but I’ve gotten a lot faster and smoother through it since. Dragon tail is one of my other favorite tracks too. Yes, consistency makes you better. Now that I’ve gotten more consistent my lap times have dropped.

@The Casual Racing Gamer I’ve been playing GT7 for a little over a month now, I’ve gotten a lot better since I’ve started. Still learning to drive better but doing well, I’m planning on getting a good wheel and pedals soon. I raised the game level from beginner, intermediate, then to hard since races were getting too easy. One thing I’ve noticed, one of the harder level races I did with the PP set at like 700 and having to use SS tires, I picked a car I’ve used that’s done well, putting on the SS tires drops the PP just below 700. When I start the race all the other cars blow by me like I’m going backwards and speed around turns like the laws of physics don’t apply to them. I can keep up for the first lap or 2 but eventually get passed or they speed away at light speed. I thought the cars are supposed to be evenly matched, why are they so much faster than me? I tried 2 different cars with my M2 comp doing better, are my driving skills not yet up to par? I expect the race to be hard but not impossible to get in the top 3. It seems like I have to run a perfect lap every time to stay within the group but don’t get why the cars out accelerate mine. I race in VR btw, the best imo.

Are you taking advantage of drafting/slipstreams? Also as Casual said, maximizing the track limits really does help. I also play in VR, the best way to play! I'd say keep practicing. I'd say it's a skill issue. I don't mean that negatively. Maybe you're braking too early and/or not getting on the power quick enough. Have you messed with brake bias at all when applicable? You've been playing for not that long. It DOES take time. I've been playing for about a year and I'm definitely a better racer now than when I started. Do you play any other racing games/sims? I didn't come into GT7 "cold" to racing games/sims. I play on my PC as well. Good luck on the track!

I can't really say what the issue might be in single-player, especially if you are keeping up for a few laps and then just get blown away of a sudden. As long as settings are set to make the cars equal, they should be, but that's why I always prefer to race against real players. You don't have to question what the AI is doing when you just race online.

@GalactusTheDestroyer @thecasualracinggamer I finally found this video again and wanted to post an update. I got an almost new wheel, Thrustmaster T248. I’ve been really liking it. I had to get used to driving with it then needed to get used to driving using paddle shifters. I’ve practiced a lot since and have gotten a lot better. Biggest improvement I’ve seen is my cornering, I’m driving a lot faster and smoother through them. I’ve also been more consistent with braking zones, trail braking and modulating the accelerator around curves or corners too. The wheel and pedals have made it easier and the fine control is there. I was having trouble driving Le Mans but now it’s been a lot better since I’ve gotten better and more consistent. I was able to finish in the top 3 where before I was at the back or having trouble finishing the race. So yeah, it is my skill level and lots of practice has helped. I’ve messed with brake bias on some cars but haven’t had to a lot other than just testing different settings to see how the car brakes. I have ACC too but haven’t played it yet. I’ve been going back to races where I didn’t do well before and I’ve either placed in the top 3 or gotten P1. Other races I’ve placed better than before usually because I haven’t raced that track in a while or I get bumped off track and end up at the back trying to catch up. I like racing against real players too but don’t always find a good room with enough good drivers. I’ve had a few good online races but mostly ok ones where drivers care more about how fast they can go, crash or go off track on a turn, then go as fast as they can again. Any advice on finding good rooms?

The wheel and pedals are feeling better everyday. I finally put the finishing touches and set everything up properly last night on the GT prime light rig, very very solid excellent quality for those interested I would give it an A rating. In line with what your video is teaching, definitely a lot of practice and a ton of qualifying laps help, the more you know a track the better you are prepared to take on random situations that come up in a race. And Cad, I earned a gold time on the time trial Bathurst on the wheel and pedals so I'm starting to get my legs back and it looks like I should be ready to race a couple of those 20 lap Suzuka races this weekend, my qualifying time is at a 1.59.7 so it's not too too bad it just takes a lot of practice to get used to the wheel and pedals but it's well worth it. You were so right there's nothing like VR with a steering wheel and pedals in a proper rig it is absolutely incredible.

I told you VR with a wheel and pedals will bring your VR experience to the next level. Now you can probably see what I meant when I said with a controller you won't feel connected to the car like you do with a wheel and pedals.

@@thecasualracinggamer amen to that. And just as an update I feel like my progress is moving faster than I expected, the wheel was extremely foreign to me at first but the breaking points the throttle control all of that stuff your brain retains that information it's just making your feet do those things and having the wheel turn the car instead of the joystick so I didn't put that into my factoring so I'm pleasantly surprised but still need a ton of work This definitely didn't make me an A+ racer by any means and I'm just going to have to keep practicing and having fun.

Cas, great tips, but I'll comment on your statement that qualifying is very important. Yes, NOT qualifying well will invariably put you at the tail of the field. But what if you qualify well, but are the slowest in a more stacked lobby. After all, pole in a D lobby is the quickest by definition, but still very slow. Yet, the slowest in a higher lobby has indeed qualified well. I did a lot of Race C this week, and qualified pretty well, but in EVERY race, including when I was in the top 4 qualifiers, I was punted, and almost every time it was the first lap. ' Your advice to start (if you can) on pole is good, and scoot away from the carnage, but for every (half)-talented YTuber there are a dozen of us who put the effort in to qualifying only to be punted. Like I said, EVERY race. I've watched your other videos. Advice on racecraft, avoiding situations which scream danger, allowing obviously quicker drivers to pass, watching mirrors to see oncoming divebombs ... Yep, I do all those, and generally let one or two drivers through each race, but there's no avoiding the nasty drivers, and there are a lot of them. I was mid B, and climbing, almost went down to D. In a week. Just hanging on to B now, and yet my race pace is better than at least half of every field, in a longer race (always Race C). I've almost had enough. Ready to go back to single player. Rant over.
@thecasualracinggamer

Pole in a D lobby means you will be the fastest or one of the fastest there, so overall, it would be the same as getting pole in an A lobby for an A driver. If you are getting taken out a lot, you need to work on your defensive race craft and avoidance. Will you avoid all the time, no, but you can avoid often. If you were a B and went down to a D, then you should able to get some wins or podium finishes at a D. Take advantage of it and don't get frustrated.

Actually I have a different approach to each weeks daily races. Now that I drive only in VR, when learning a track I will see what cars the top players in the world are using, and also whether or not Polyphony is letting us tune the suspension or not and what the brake balance is for these top drivers. THEN most important I watch their replay of there qualifying time and where there shift points are both up and down. As I am watching them do this on the flat screen, I am mimicking with my hands on the wheel, to learn the correct timing. Now the biggest thing these top drivers do is what they don’t do. They do very little braking, instead they take their foot off the gas on all curves and turns more than relying on the brake. Learn this and you will be faster. And lastly, I love your commentary Cas, but in the McLaren’s and 😂quite a few cars,in VR there is no way to know how far the other car is ahead or behind time wise, only a guess. So we are at a disadvantage that I hope the creators fix. jmo TicketBait out!

Since we can not see other cars' times in VR, I go off what we can see, which is what is in my mirrors, radar and out of my windows.
@Ticket_Bait
@Ticket_Bait 3 ай бұрын
In your race that you show, only the bottom screen applies. You have no rearview mirror. And no rearview camera monitor that some cars do. Yes you have radar, but that only shows if they are less than a second behind you. Also since our virtual screen is not as clear as what is being displayed here, very difficult to Desiree if that is the same car as before that is a quarter of a mile behind you in the little driver side mirror. Best to toggle the info from radar to time settings to see if you are running at a faster pace lap than before and what your lap times are. This is good advice, don’t you agree?

Are you running any kind of traction control, etc. I’m usually mid pack to top five but I take myself out because I overdrive.
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer 3 ай бұрын
The McLaren does not need traction control. There is so much grip that you can just throw that thing around. If you are losing control due to losing grip on acceleration, then work on your pedal work and easing into it. Also, don't accelerate from 1st gear, I am usually in 2nd or 3rd on acceleration. I do have ABS on default. I never touch that. As for taking yourself out. Don't be scared to let cars pass you. You are better off letting a car or two go ahead of you than challenging them, overdriving, and then ending up in the back of the pack because of it.

@thecasualracinggamer

A lot. My T-GT II from my T-150 has helped me become a better driver because you can actually get a great sense of feel for your tires and grip that gear driven wheels like the G29 just cannot offer. That is not to say you can't be great on a G29 though.

I’m not following what you’re saying with regards to short shifting on a flat screen vs revving out the gears in VR…
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer 3 ай бұрын
On a flat screen, you shift this car when the rev limiter is about 2/3 up the line, not waiting for it to get to the end. In VR, in the cockpit, there is a rev limiter on the dashboard, and you shift when it reaches the end of the line. In VR don't shift until that line reaches the end. You can see in the replay view on the top right that the shift is happening before the end in that view.
