Great video. I am starting a psych degree this year and have never been to uni before. I have adhd so I’m worried I will struggle with self directed learning and the large amount of study I’ll be doing.

Starting my under grad psych degree this April. I'm in my 50's and really nervous. Last time I'm in Uni was 1993.😅

@@stanleyng2601 good luck! You’re an inspiration. I hope to still be hungry to learn when I’m your age (29 currently)

Hiya Joel, A close Friend of mine has had quite severe struggles over the years with his ADHD, but he went to university and afterwards became a nurse at one of England's best hospitals, he worked there throughout the pandemic and saved countless lives. Now he works in care homes part time and also as a disability assessor that helps people that cannot work access the benefits and support they're entitled to. He still has his off days of course, but Please don't feel like ADHD will hold you back mate, it might make things a little or even a lot harder at times, but i can promise you if your passionate about this field(or any other) you will do amazing work within it. And if you do get stuck, there's no better place than Kathleen's channel to find help and inspiration! Wishing you all the best for your journey into psychology and university life!

Hi Kathleen, my name is Farah. I have been watching your KZbin videos and find them incredibly helpful. It's great that you are based in Australia because I haven't found many other KZbin videos with Australian psychologists. I am a second-year psychology undergraduate student also based in Australia. I am 34 years old and decided to change careers. I hope my age won't hinder my goal of becoming a psychologist as I will be 38 by the time I complete my studies. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and thank you for the helpful and informative content you upload.

Hey Farah, Thanks for reaching out and sharing this - I’m so glad the content has been helpful! My mum didn’t start her studies until she was 38, then became a clinical psych in her 50s - her age never hindered her (if this helps 😄). I believe people who study psychology later on in life bring a richness to the profession! Wishing you all the best with your psych journey 🫶

Hi Farah! I'm 23 and currently in my psych Masters degree and I study with a lot of older people. There's many who are in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond, many who have older children and are even grandparents! Like Kathleen said, they bring a richness and unique perspective to the course work and career. It's certainly never too late and personally, I find great value in learning from them and their personal experiences which enhances their work as psychologists, as well as my own. I think it's a great advantage and will be helpful for you and your future work.

Hi Kathleen, big fan of the channel. We all appreciate and acknowledge your hard work. I've got 2 questions 1) Can a general psychologist contribute to and publish research papers in their area of competence? 2) I currently have an average WAM. I've skimmed through honours university requirements. Apart from the general required 75 WAM to considered, some require ta 75 overall avg. from 2nd yr units. I'm a little disheartened as I may not get into honours, granted (if) I do achieve a 75+ WAM this year. -- Are there any other alternative pathways to getting into honours? I have my eyes set to becoming a psychologist, endorsed or not. Thank you in advance, we truly appreciate your effort!

Thanks so much!! To my knowledge I can’t see why a generalist psychs couldn’t contribute and publish research - it would just be a matter having the right outlet/supervisor/opportunity to do this. If you can’t make honours, try an advanced grad diploma! This will still allow you to apply for a masters 😊 university of Melbourne and ANU also have a 2 year professional masters, which you can apply for without honours- worth looking into! Best of luck!
