Hey all! I've been trying to make more "on topic" fitness content, but I learned this while I was sick for a few days and really, really wanted to share with some of you.
Our mindset and perspective shapes how we see the world and tremendously impacts the actions we take. Being excited to live life isn't delusional. It's a tremendous advantage.
Different things motivate different people, but here's my advice:
Our environment and social group often determine our outlook. If our friends are Debbie Downers, we're likely negative as well.
If possible, find new friends. Hang out with new people that lift you up.
If you can't do this, consume positive content (podcasts, videos, articles, books, etc). There are many motivational people out there. Listen to people that teach you and make you excited to live life. Keep listening to them.
Thanks for listening!

As a creative person who has dealt with depression for most of my life, I want to re-emphasize what Hampton said about surrounding yourself with people who are supportive of not only you, but also what you are passionate about. My husband died last August. I have had a terrible year. Somehow I have managed to keep moving forward. My anger and frustration and grief come out and I get really down. I try to shake it off and try not to show it and I’m mad at myself when those negative emotions come out. Why should I or anyone be mad at myself/ourselves when life gets too hard? Why shouldn’t I break down sometimes and honor those feelings and moments then pick myself up and basically crawl forward? He’s right who you have in your life is so important. It’s very hard to find good people and be accepted by them.

I was about to give up in my college career. But now I feel hopeful that someone sees my situation too. Unfortunately My parents are very strict not because they are bad parents, they are good parents who just wants their kids to be safe. But that *safe* net is limiting me from experience the best out of my life. I am still not allowed to go out the house even at the age of 19. I've already contacted my life coach to talk to my parents. I hope I can go out ( my parents abroad so my sisters are in charge which is worst ) being in an environment filled with life ( nature, new places, people face to face with mask on and not crowded ) Is my pure Motivation and inspiration to do something I hate to something I can do no matter what.

I hope I can have the joy and happiness I deserve. because I feel like I'm back to prison just like my childhood days ( my house when I was a kid feels like I was in prison and in chains ) I don't care anymore if my parents buy my *trendy clothes* ( nike logo shirt and big brand names on the middle, yuck ) Because I want to live with clothing that is normal, not trendy. I want to live life with guidance and not control. I want to live not *need* because life is not always perfect.

I know this is very late, but I want to tell you to hang on my stranger friend. Life is incredibly tough and throws a lot of obstacles that brings us down. However, it can be a blessing or a curse. These hard times are chances for you to test your limit, to see how far you can go in life, how can you improve yourself, how do you behave and act. You can use these opportunities to reflect on your emotions, knowledge and so much more so if you happen to get stuck in one of these situations, you now know how to better deal with them. I, for example, am about to go to college very soon and I am very nervous about a lot of stuff. But, I do know for a fact that my parents have endured worse hardships than me and they still succeed in life and able to raise me and my brother. They did not have internet, modern gadgets, advanced education and houses, money for daily shopping and emergency situations, good mentors who are not always there to support them and so much more. Yet, they survived that era and still live healthily and happily and still provide for us even though we are not rich. Seeing how they managed to get through empowers me. If they thrive in such environment, why can't I do so right? Although my points are somewhat vaguely explained, the main point I am trying to reach here is: You control your own life, seize it, improve it, never let anyone take control of your life. There are so many great things in life that we have yet to discover. We'll get through this, stay strong and have a wonderful day.

Something that really started to help me is saying to myself every time i go to bed 'this is it. When i go to sleep i will die'. I never really think im going to die but it shifts my perspective massively every time i do it. It helps me put my problems into perspective and makes me look forward to the little mundane bits about the day that you enjoy when you get the time. Sometimes all you really need is to take a step back and the reasons for your optimism will come back to you on their own, like a painter who gets caught up in a few strokes when the painting is a masterpiece.

I think many people are not goal oriented. I’ve personally struggled with depression for much of my adult life but I pushed through by believing I could achieve the goals I set for myself. Those goals helped “distract” me from focusing on my depression and focus on the things I needed to do in order to achieve the goals I was after. Living in Interior Alaska where it is cold and dark for 3-4 moths of the year I came to realize that my mindset ultimately determined my mood despite my environmental condition that I find myself in and I am in control of my mindset. Knowing that is liberating. I hope those of you who happen to read this come to the same conclusion. Lastly, perspective is so important and that comes with life experience. Serving 20 years in the Air Force has given me perspective that living in the good ole USA 🇺🇸 is a blessing. But if you’ve not experienced life outside of the USA it’s difficult to realize how fortunate we are. Be well my KZbin friends!

I'm probably a bit older than most your viewers as I'm over 50. As a long time sufferer of depression I can't agree more. You need to find the things in life that spark you. It's very hard to maintain optimism without that. Think I needed this today as I have lost another friend this past week, way to soon. At some point your confronted with how brief life is. Do the things you love now as tomorrow isn't guaranteed. The things that frustrate you today will be forgotten tomorrow. Perspective is everything. How you choose to frame things is very important. Listen to your internal dialogue, if it's not how you would speak to your loved ones change that voice! It also helps to sit down once a day and record three things you are grateful for. Do it for a few weeks and you find your mindset shifting.

Hi Hampton, I've come across your channel here and there recently and your videos truly help form a certain calmness within me. That also goes for this video; similar to your experience, I fell sick quite recently and had a complete lack of positivity and energy in my otherwise-optimistic daily life, finding any reasons I could for self-pity and complaining that carried on even after I had recovered. It wasn't until a day or so ago that I finally began to feel my "optimism" return, but I've had quite a few highs and lows, sometimes almost falling back into that rabbit hole. I'd like to believe your message in this video holds at least some of the solution I was looking for to get back to enjoying and living my life again; finding ways to hope and find enjoyment in daily life even in the lows. Sorry for venting a bit there, it just feels like I've gotten a weight off my shoulders. Though you may not read this, thank you for sharing your experience and nuggets of wisdom. Hope you and anyone else reading this comment have a wonderful, beautiful day!

Hope your health is alright and I hope you continue to live a life of meaning. And I really hope you read this!

I'm glad that you are feeling much better. And I hope you have a full and complete recovery soon where you aren't experiencing hoarseness when you talk. I've been struggling and dealing with physical pain and toxic people for years. I had to cut some people out of my life. They were manipulative and negative not just to me but many others. I've realized that I'm exhausted and severely depressed. I just want to thank you for this video. I appreciate it.

About the relative happiness at the end, i have read that amputees or people that lost the ability to walk after an incident go into massive depression after the accident, but after 2-3 years they regain their happiness and optimism even if their life is more limited than before. As Bob Ross once said, "Gotta have opposites, light and dark and dark and light, in painting. It’s like in life. Gotta have a little sadness once in awhile so you know when the good times come." Keep at it people, good times will come.

As a collective, as humans sharing in the human experience, know it is normal to feel crummy from time to time. You are enough just the way you are! My tip to when you start feeling shitty is to #1 days say STOP! Tell that annoying, negative voice in your head to stoooopppppp. Then, immediately say 3 things you’re sincerely grateful for. It doesn’t alleviate the issue, but it helps! There’s so much to be grateful for. Also, daily exercise, drinking water and making sure you’re eating veggies helps too!!!!

Hey man, most of you probably won’t see this comment, but for those of who will, i hope this comment finds you well. For me, this whole pandemic thing really made our futures look grim and depressing. I know many things changed and everything feels off. This video made me realize what this pandemic took away from many of us is our optimism for the future. This pandemic seems never ending and so many other horrible things are happening simultaneously, it’s difficult to be optimistic. After watching this video, i realized that although the future is unpredictable, we should always live today as if the best is yet to come and that everything will get better. Best wishes to you all 🥰

This is such an important message! Perspective can impact outcomes, can mean everything! For myself, I've found that having a deep, loving understanding of Impermanence helps me to keep the habit of optimism, as well as deepens my gratitude for the ups, knowing these things fluctuate, and the downs, knowing that there is wisdom and healing to be found in these periods of stagnation, overwhelming fear, loss, etc. There will always be a profound need for lessons in optimism, strength and hope, which I think Hampton fully embodies and exudes. Wishing you a full, speedy recovery, my friend!

I'm gonna think about that Video a lot in the next few days. Currently I'm in a situation where I feel really unhappy, and maybe the problem is, that I've gotten hopeless... Excitement is really something I lost during the last few years, it's been a long time since I felt passion. I can't say that this video just magically solved my problems, but it may help me to pinpoint the problem and start to really tackle it. I think this video came exactly at the right time

Thanks for this. In a time of segregation, I feel connected to people I'll never meet. It's hard to disconnect from the family and friends that become judgmental of your freedoms but it's better for your health. Thanks for being you and being honest.

As someone who was naturally hopeful and optimistic until going through traumatic events, I just want to go back to where I used to be. I want to feel like myself again. I appreciate the advice, and just knowing that there are people like you out there who can keep being positive and not letting the world break you makes me feel like I could change things for myself.

Hampton is way better than Dhar Mann at doing this kind of thing mainly because he has a genuine feeling and teachings. They aren't half-baked videos with the same lesson being hammered over and over again, meanwhile Hampton is teaching what's needed to be taught, I really needed this. Motivation is hard to come by nowadays and seeing him deliver this helps a lot.

I needed to hear this. I’m barely a week into HC then I got sick with sinus problems, which are not usually a problem for me. Being congested and hacking up gunk is no fun. Makes it very hard to get out of bed in the mornings. Haven’t been consistent with exercise and on top of that I’m undergoing therapy for a traumatic event that happened earlier this year. Finding motivation and meaning has been very very hard.

Been jobless since June 2020. Been applying both private and government sectors and still no go. But I got to able to keep myself occupied since after a heart break on Feb 2020. Depressed and boogled mind. Atleast touring and exercise kept me going and also learning newer things. I am jobless but I am happy to live today. Don't end yourself by small things and those things are temporary.

I just left one job because the environment was so toxic it was giving me panic attacks. I took a large pay cut and started a job where it is mostly good, but my supervisor is someone who exudes garbage. I am so depressed and hopeless for the future. I just want to work for myself, but have no idea how.

This is so important and special, thank you dearly Hampton. On the topic of optimism, something I really resonate with was this notion I heard a while ago against the whole idea that being optimistic makes you stupid or vulnerable by not considering bad things that could happen. Instead, it was about the strength and resilience you needed to be optimistic, and how true optimism derives strength not from blatantly ignoring bad things that could happen, but from having faith and *trust* in yourself that you *could* handle and overcome bad things if they *did* happen, so instead of worrying about them you can shift your focus on the good and beautiful in life. All the best to you and anyone else reading this, hope you all and your loved ones are all healthy and at peace ❤️
