@@TheCommanderTaco I don't think investing is really the same of crowdfunding, when you invest in gold, you get the gold and hold on to it. When you invest in stocks, you have the stocks, you are a partial owner of the company. Sure they can become worthless if the company tanks, but you can sell them as soon as your payment processes. Crowdfunding is wanting a product to be made and helping to fund something in exchange for the product. You get nothing for your money except the promise that you may get a product you want made.
@AnythingForSouls4 ай бұрын
@@VaporeonEnjoyer1 its a pre order basically you give them the money to make the item in return you get the item when its done so technically you are investing you just don't have anything physical them shutting the door is basically like stocks tanking you put $100 in and now you get 10cent back because the companies worthless exact same as them just deciding thanks for the money and logging out.
@VaporeonEnjoyer14 ай бұрын
@@AnythingForSouls Pre-orders are for items that have already been greenlit, are being produced and have financial backing. If it is cancelled, you get your money back. That's why games that have no big company wanting to finance, like Shenmue 3, have to turn to kickstarter, because they need you to be the financial backer. And unlike a big company who gets a possible return on their investment at the risk of loss, you only get at best the product, or at worst, nothing.

Personally the only thing I have helped fund on Kickstarter was Viva La Dirt Leauge for a few bucks. I also did back "Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch" on a site called BackerKit ( was led there from Kevin Smith's actual website) and still to this day the game has yet to come out or have any updates ( I backed the game in 2020). "I was scammed ten years ago so it's okay to taunt someone with a dead child" is a terminally online take.
@TheCommanderTaco4 ай бұрын
@HappilyTearful it's nuanced because while I don't agree with the method the sentiment is there. Partially it feels like they are / can use the fact it is supposed to be a homage to their deceased relative to hide from criticism. Let's take the Amico for instance. Tommy originally stated he wanted to release the Amico on his deceased sister's birthday. Business wise the move made no sense, but if you tried to call him out on it then you would be seen as being the insensitive jerk because of the meaning it is supposed to hold. Back to the bar while it is okay for them to want to honor a family member it does play on people's emotions to have that in their pitch. While the commenter definitely isn't 100% in the right. It is the creators who are more in the wrong, especially using "getting negative comments" as an excuse to stop replying to actual comments that could be quite insightful.

The harassment is 100% going too far, but at the end of the day they did objectively use a child's death as a sob story in order to try and drive up engagement and sales. And that would be disgusting on its own even if the project went off without a hitch. But the fact that they *also* didn't end up delivering at all only makes it that much grosser. They should have never exploited the child to drive sales in the first place, and they have reached the point where it's clearly become a scam by not even finishing on their promises
