I've installed a few radios. Not the midland ones but a few rugged radios and a couple woxoun kg1000g's. I'm impressed with the detail you took in the install. I've watched a ton of videos of people's installs and the lack of detail bothers me. Well done as you've said so yourself!

Nice video! If it were me I’d use one of these for running wires through the firewall: Stainless Steel Wire InsertionTool - Piercing for 1/4-Inch Wiring Hole…much easier! Tool makes the hole and one merely runs the wire ‘through the tool’ into the inside of the vehicle or vice versa. Thanks for sharing! ~Jim~

Thanks Jim, I’ll look into that. Truly learn something every day.

Thank you. I’m about to do the same thing, except I was going to put the head unit in the glove box. Now I have a decision to make because I didn’t know about that little bracket under the passenger seat.

You bet Kelly, glad I could help!

I have been installing two way radios since the early 80’s before going into the professional business of 2-way. Todays vehicles have become nightmares to instal and work on radios and their antenna systems. You also have individuals who "do not want to drill" for mounting their antennas. Remote mount radios are the best where you hav3 a do all microphone or a control head that is small enough to mount somewhere in the cab. That fuse mounting is a BIG NO NO!! The fuse should be mounted under the hood and directly to the battery with no more than 6 inches to the battery. There should also be a fuse of the same rating going to the negative pole of the battery as well. The reason is that if there should be an open negative in the wrong area of the vehicle, you can wind up having the negative line of the radio power cable trying to carry all of the load back to the battery setting that negative lead on fire. Another little trick is to find a speedometer cable found on older cars, it makes an excellent fishing wire for pulling cables through to their destination.

I'm getting ready to install my gmrs radio in the jku. Thanks for your video, especially the parts about the hole through the passenger side and the spod use. I also have a power unit, although not spod. Have you gotten any issues with interference on the radio since the install? Thanks again.

Hi there yellowdirtbiketruck, Sorry for the delayed response, I’ve been having some email issues and have not been seeing comments to my channel. To answer your question; no, I have not seen any static or radio interference whatsoever. Again, sorry for the delay, I’m sure you already have your radio installed by now. 😬

You didn’t show how to mount the antenna.. I’m using a previously mounted cb antenna, and I don’t know if I can.. wanted 20 minutes

Hi schmitice, So sorry for the very late response, I’ve been having some issues with receiving comments. If you haven’t already figured out the antenna mount, I would suggest you take a look at the Midland Radio site, they have several options. I used the Roll Bar/Mirror mounting bracket to mount the stealth antenna to my roof rack. Again, apologies for the late reply.
