Nice one! Thanks for doing the work on this! Next up we need to try setting one vehicle up as a repeater and see how far we can go!

The lady is holding the HT the wrong way when talking into the radio. The antenna should be vertical, not horizontal. Very important when trying to talk further distances.

You can use a Bluetooth ear bud for your cell phone and mute it to prevent that echo interference from the infinite audio loop. Unmute to talk on the cell phone only when you think the radios are out of range.

Those radios are not 15 watt radios. Max allowed by a handheld on gmrs is 5 watts Those ones put out 2.8 watts on high power.

lol for real . Only democrats will believe those or any handheld Gmrs is 15 watts 😅

Rugged Radios makes a Tacoma mounting bracket that uses the passenger seat bracket bolt and radio installs against console with no holes drilled. Also works on 4Runners They don’t recommend running power wire and antenna cable together, apparently due to possible static.

If your wife had stepped onto the bridge and into the open a little more, with no trees in the way, you may have gotten a little more range between handhelds. UHF frequencies are primarily line-of-sight.
@NickWindham5 ай бұрын
I was thinking this exact same thing. It would also be better to use an HT with a detachable antenna so you can use a higher gain & lower SWR whip style antenna like the Nogoya NA-771G

🤣 such a misguided statement! Apparently our good buddy put that number into our heads on one of our last trips as he was calling them 15 watt radios the whole time and we didn’t even think twice about it! We tried to correct that statement as best as possible later in the video. We find it interesting that Midland doesn’t even list a spec on the wattage on their site.

12:48, hum how can you calculate four times smaller? Remember basic math, times is always more never less thus four times a number is always more. More correctly stated would be one quarter the original size. Also, you use the word utilize, utilize is not a fancy way to say use because it has a different meaning. Use means to consume from a limited supply or take something to achieve a result. Utilize means to use something beyond its intended purpose. Rather than using the correct word use, using utilize comes across as pompous and self ingratiating.
