Thank you for the walk-through! I was just given a broken Nerf gun to mod (The same one you were modding in the video), so it was actually really nice seeing what you did with the same gun! Taking a snapshot of the inside is a very good idea, thank you so much :)

Want it to last longer? Glue metal bits and softer plastic parts with GOOP. Hard plastic gets thick Super Glue. Paint it afterward. I like Krylon for coverage, and because it dries quick. Seal Rub-n-Buff with clearcoat. It will lose some of the metallic but be real glossy. I make props and costume accesories as my job. Try these tips!

I recently purchased a Lion Sword from Party City it was damaged with severe paint damage. I thought of Steampunking the sword. Aside from how to paint it I have no idea where to begin. Oh I'm going to paint a double barrel shotgun I got. Your video was very helpful on how to begin the paint job. Thanks.

Looks great! Im actually looking to repaint two mavericks for a "Steampunk Deadpool" cosplay. I probably wont remove pieces or add little gadgets to it, but dremeling off the logos and stuff would be a good idea. Ive been looking for the right paints and your video has helped me settle on what I want to use. Thanks for your help! :D

I got, last year, two shades of gold. One of copper, one of brass, and one of silver. If these don't work, then you might want to look into traditional modeling techniques. Hobbytown USA is a nation wide chain that will probably have what you need. :-)

Hey Jake just an update. Painted the gun a nice brass and bronze with a brown wash and it looks good. For the past week or so I've been playing around with ideas for any gadgets that I could put on. I bought these nice cleat plastic vials that I want to incorporate but I'm having a mental block. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey Jake I would really appreciate your insight on how to make pouches for my sci fi armor on a budget and would also like it if you would make things that would make a sci fi film seem more sci fi. Your observation of octagon doors in sci fi movies was very insightful and I was wondering if you could expand that idea further but with other things.

If you made the barrels copper, and added some cloth or leather on the grip, it'd look like one of the Smoker's guns from Waterworld.

The only issue with that may be that (if you plan on taking it out in public / to a convention) it would most likely not be permitted into the convention or near schools or public official buildings (depending on your local laws), seeing as to how it can be considered an active and possibly lethal weapon capable of seriously maiming bystanders O.O

The Rub 'N Buff looks very neat! Unfortunately I haven't found any Rub 'N Buff products in the Netherlands :/ Do you happen to know an alternative? (Not spray paint, because I'd like to be more accurate with painting smaller parts)

I know this was a long time ago, but one method that always worked for me was spray painting on a paper towel and rubbing it on the prop. I know you said no spray paint, but this was the only thing I did and it worked out well for me.

so did you just get ordinary gold and silver rub n buff or metallic finish ones? Also, did you use a whole tube of each colour of rub n buff for this? I'm hoping to steampunk a slightly bigger nerf gun but can't spend a lot of money on paints etc...

I learned a lot from your demo (the heat shield is awesome), and I thank you for that. However your usage of hot glue drives me nutzo. Have you tried using an E6000 or other glue instead? It will hold better and is paintable.
