My 14 week old puppy goes after birds. I use the leave it command and it seems to be working so far. She still stares at them after but she’s slowly learning not to try and chase after them. Goes back to what you said about how important that command is. I love it.

Yes, Thank you for publishing the book. I bought it some months ago and still reading it. I just want to make sure that I'm following your instruction correctly. Because e-collar can really mess up dogs' mind. I don't want that happen to my dogs.

I can only agree with you that I’m sick of people who wrongly teach e-collar training and therefore got it banned in Germany for example, which where we live now. In the states we went to go train our dog Willy , R.I.P, with great trainers from Sitmeanssit from Fred Hassen because Willy was a Weimaraner with a strong hunting drive and had been hit by a car before not while running away smelling a track but while he was on his way back to me...which was traumatic for to witness this. So the great training with the e-collar in the US with Sitmeanssit helped especially me to finally be able to also have Willy enjoy off leash walks and he was the happiest dog looking at me and you could just see how excited he was. The best proof of the positive association of Willy with the collar was that every time i got it out of the drawer he got all happy and his tail was wagging and he came running towards me and wanted me to put it on him cause he knew we would go outside and run freely. It was never used to punish him. He knew the commands and was used to enforce a command if the distraction was too high and he wouldn’t respond. Kinda like a tap on the shoulder, “hey, I’m talking to you! “

Hi Larry. I had this issue with my Border Collie. I have trained dogs for 45 years and my youngster now 18 months old had fear based car chasing. I collar conditioned her months back and now the problem has gone. I did of cause correctly condition her. Nice to hear this addressed though,Thanks Larry :) Oh I also stopped her Pica to. Only ever used very low levels.

Paul Strauss well he said you stop it with good e-collar training and then defines what that looks like.
@tammyolimer-lohnes13435 жыл бұрын
he is saying start off walking on a leash and with e collar and as your dog gets alerted to its target{car,cat,squirrel,people} before it goes into chase mode, say the command leave it and correct at the training level, continuously until the dog ignores the target. If you leave it until the dog is barking and lunging, its to late. You have to teach the dog to stop the impulse before it reacts or your going to be shocking it at too high of levels.

Proper e-collar training. My jack russell mix got shocked twice in (almost) 4 years. My came corso/bullmastiff got shocked at level 4 (of 15) once since we started it a year ago. Now don't ask me about my pitbull/bulldog mix... LOL. She is getting better, but gets a good shock at least once a week cause she is super reactive. She LOVES people but is still getting used to her size. She thinks she's little... but she's at least a solid 90lbs. She wants to meet everyone who comes by (we live rural, so it isn't usual that people go by... very hard to train it when she doesn't get that stimulation (basically, love is her crack). Now, she is getting better and everything is pretty much good now except when she see's a person... she still REALLY wants to greet. She is a crazy work in process but she keeps getting better! Oh, and all very positive but firm training. We do training every day and they love it. Keeps them tip top! Love my doggos 💕

My crazy 2 year old Aussie I newly adopted can be put off leash when playing the throwing game. She is 100% focused cause she likes her toy bone so much and likes to catch the frisbee so much, she will stop hearing any highway traffic noise, stop looking at the road to check whether there are strangers, other dogs, bicycles, will not notice a wild rabbit running around, ... Aussies are bred to work and catching frisbee and toy bone (just like herding cows) is wired in her brain. If I can find some way to distract her from bikes, joggers, other dogs, .. so that she can focus on me, I don't even need the e collar. The prong collar doesn't work. She doesn't seem to learn. I need something more stimulating than the bike or other moving objects.

People have been shaming me in a reddit forum for conditioning my GSD whos 6 months old on a eCollar. Mainly so she can run around and if she decides to chase a car or deer that are often in the area. Its honestly probably saved her life 3 or four times now because she occasionally will chase a car or deer which was leading her to the road.

This video didn't teach anyone how to "stop a dog from chasing .... ". There's a lot of talk about E-collar usage (bad & good) but not really even enough about how to go about using them good. There is plenty of information like an E-collar can be used well or not well. Or, they can be effective or not. Or, most ppl don't use them properly , but , none of this describes the steps of training your dog not to chase ....... as the label of the video suggests. NOT HELPFUL IMO.

We have leash laws but apparently people don't care about this. So nice the spike tomahawk and Hugh gig . I love animals especially dogs but getting bit hurts alot . Today I was chased by a hunting dog he got the big in the face. Whine bitch whatever you want. But I will Not be bit a nother time. Next time I get bit dead dog no apology and owner I don't care if they are watching I get bit dog dies I call the cop and lawsuit to the owner keep the dog from chasing me and others. I have neighbors that have invisible fence and the dogs are fantastic . The sheriff department knows of the bad dogs and the pack of 4 I have to ride by daily bite . If a dog causes a accident the owner is responsible for the accident and Injury to those in the accident. Sadly the owners of the bad pack of 4 don't care about me and others being chased by their dogs .

You can train your dog or any dog to value being with you over any distraction. You simply have to build the relationship through positive methods. Use their meals for training, build the foundation behaviors first, proximity, focus, self control. Add premack and generalize the 3 d's = duration, distance distractions. It's totally possible without using an e-collar or any aversive and it does not take very long but of course it is individual to each dog. If your dog is chasing, barking, lunging you have to change their association with the distraction as they are experiencing fear and simply behaving normally but inappropriately in human terms. Work at a distance without reaction and mark(use a calm word) and treat. Use their dinner. Do short sessions but often as possible. This will change their emotional response. Gradually get closer to distractions as your dog can handle it. Don't worry if they can't take food at first, simply create more distance and try again. I started my pup this way and she now has no reactions to scary things. It's a beautiful relationship.

Everyone has some method of correcting their dog. While I don't super approve of using an e collar to correct, this guy is doing it as non abusively as possible. It's like smacking a kids hand when they try to touch the stove. The pain of the smack, or shock is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than that of the alternative
