Thank you for sharing this video. You are the first You Tuber to emphasize the 45 degree angle and the use of a single board for bracing. I will be taking your advice and building a garage door this week.

Great video, thank you. I thought my back gate was sagging (and catching the ground) because of the hinges. Going to follow your advice and brace it - after re-hanging. You made the transfer of forces very clear.

Nice. Didn't know the importance of a 45 degree angle.
@Bacrenfencing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes the angle is important, just ensure not to go under 45 degrees with the bracing. Anything over 45 degrees is fine within reason. Thanks for the comment 👍

The amount of gate you see the wrong way round. They think the diagonal is just to hold the slates a bit better. Very well explained.

How did you measure and cut the angle so it fitted flush in the brace?
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
Just lay the brace on the gate and then use a straight edge to eye the line. Mark it and then cut in the mitre saw. You can see how I do that on this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZu5epyqlpeHjtU
@a3883m Жыл бұрын
I just watched another video from a fence installer and he said the angle should be 45 degrees or LESS. Can you clarify which it is? It seems like once you go past 45 degrees, the brace would be weaker and want to pull apart. Thanks!
@a3883m Жыл бұрын
Nevermind! I figured it out. You guys are saying the same thing. You were measure the angle between the top board and the brace, he was measuring the angle between the side board and the brace. If your angle should be greater than 45, his should be less. Sorry for the confusion!
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
Yes, depends where you measure the angle from, but hopefully you figured it out.

*Knew* the angles my guys built the new gate with was wrong. It's 5°'s off in 3 months. Ahaaaaaa. Can't get it open 🤣 it's now 15mm out at the bottom and normal at the top. Lol.
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
That's what happens Charlie !
@KatBradley-19682 жыл бұрын
At first you had the brace aiming toward the bottom center - the actual gate brace goes all the way to then bottom left edge. You said that was too far...???
@Bacrenfencing2 жыл бұрын
In the video I explain about the importance of keeping the brace over a 45 degree angle, you have to position the brace to achieve that.
@radishpea6615 Жыл бұрын
with everything secured in place, why without bracing will the gate sag?
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
Because if it is braced the other way, the force of gravity over time will naturally push the furthest corner from the hinges downwards. If it is braced correctly, that force will be directed to the bottom hinge and will hold the gate in shape.
@radishpea6615 Жыл бұрын
@@Bacrenfencing Thanks but I still dont get it. If each vertical board is held in place by 2 nails or screws at each horizontal and the hinge is secure, I just dont understand how it can sag. I am not saying it wont, I am just trying to understand why. The hinge at the pivot would been to open up at the top for the top to tilt.
@Bacrenfencing Жыл бұрын
Basically if there are no diagonal bracers, the gate will easily be pulled out of shape. Try it yourself, if you get some fence boards and put in three rails without any bracing, see how easily this can be pulled out of shape. Put one corner on the ground and then pull down on the opposite corner, the gate will basically pivot and go out of shape very easily. Kind of hard to explain........
@radishpea6615 Жыл бұрын
