Watching this 11 years later and realizing he said he got that wood post for $2 or $3 at the local hardware store. 🎉

I’ve done a similar thing to this, using some old galvanised chicken wire. I put up my stock fence and realised that the ground was uneven and there were quite a few gaps underneath the bottom wire of the fence. So I got this chicken wire, Dug a trench about the width of my shovel only a few inches deep (similar to half the width of the chicken wire), then I folded the chicken wire so that it was like an L shape with one half in the trench on our side of the fence and the other half pushed up against the fence. Then I just buried the chicken wire with the soil I’d just dug up and a few rocks. Then I just stapled the chicken wire to the fenceposts and used some pieces of wire offcuts to secure the chicken wire top to the bottom of the fence. The chicken wire goes up about 1 foot so it overlaps the fence which is great because it covers all the gaps. I’ve done this before and it’s lasted 20+ years, just use the proper heavily galvanised chicken wire mesh - don’t use PVC coated because it’s normally not galvanised and therefore it rusts easily when the PVC coating is compromised (flakes off) and it becomes very brittle and snaps which is why its cheap

I did this to mine but I buried mine underground. So if they came up and started digging, they would run into fencing. It’s great!!

Using small tent pegs to pin down mesh looks alot cleaner👌

I may put chicken wire on the ground & peg it to stop animals going either way as I have a vbusy motorway right by my property along with a motorway

A lot of animals refuse to walk on netting or chicken wire.It also is so fine it cuts like a razor if they dig it.Works better on top then buried as it rusts faster buried

Great video! I never thought of that! I’m a very tiny, single woman with horrible back issues, but I think I could do this which may be good for my dog who tries to get through the back privacy fence to the dogs behind me and the critters that try to crawl under! Now if I can get the skunk that I smelled last night on the other side if my fence! Thank you!

I used this method for my garden. I didnt have room to fold the fence inwards on the inside of the garden. So I folded it on the outside and covered with dirt. I hope it works

We just had PVC fencing installed and want to keep out the groundhogs. How do I do that with the chicken wire? Will this method work or should I try something else?
@ErynnSchwellinger10 жыл бұрын
My dad taught me to do this to keep the chickens safe from foxes in the UK - only difference is we buried it! KI think this way is simpler ;)

jumping animals mostly won't clear a 45 degree angle placed at the top of a fence, too, like cats. Won't do much for good climbers but it can help as well as this if that is an issue (with chickens , cats can be)

that is a great idea, i will have to remember that, thanks

How long did you chicken wire last on the ground? I was going to use it for this purpose but I saw some videos where chicken wire essentially rusted away. I live in a dry climate but with reasonably harsh winters with snow.

How about a concrete border at least 3 feet deep down in the ground into which the fence is embedded?
@Tanjaamazon5 жыл бұрын
Will it work,for groundhog
@mskeakitty5 жыл бұрын
Just bury fencing under the ground that is staked down and weave wire between the bottom of your fence to the buried fence. If you make sure to have a couple feet under the earth on each side of your fence, pets won't be able to dig out and predators won't be able to dig in. You can also bury metal roofing under the perimeter of the fence.

Just a couple feet underneath instead of this is what you're saying?

Would it work to spread some concrete onto the chicken wire?

The advantages of having a prepared dog are endles. A couple of months I began to prepare mine with a few online videos that I discovered . They show you step by step how to manage the anxiety, biting, agression , etc. The problem with my dog in the house , in the park has vanished. My doggy behaves very well and has learned many tricks! Here is the address if you want more info: thedogsbehavior.com
