This is the best video that explains how to not bounce at the canter that I’ve seen! I ride western but it’s the same thing! Thank you! Keep those videos coming.

SAME! I try to scoop, but my body isn't familiar with the motion yet and it just doesn't know how to move, I am all over the place! I am making the right motion, but it's out of sync, is how it feels- Maybe my shoulders aren't back enough, I struggle with that on a good day- I am going to watch this so many times, haha- My instructor also had me try it in half seat, (I am between instructors, mine just retired and this lady I am working with now is AMAZING, but is more hunter/jumper, I want to focus more on dressage, although eventually I want to give it all a try, so I can be as well rounded a horseperson as possible!) and my normally pretty steady at trot (sitting and posting- I have been told my sitting trot is pretty good, so I don't understand why this is so hard!) lower legs went ALL OVER THE PLACE, what might cause that, just my balance? I thought I had my balance pretty well established but I guess not, haha! I really wish I could practice more, and do more lunge work- but AH! my old instructor is coming back to help out in September, she can lunge me, just remembered that ... Anyway! I did struggle massively with sitting trot until one day I did just FEEL it, and there it was ever after- so maybe all I really need is more time in the saddle! Just wish that wasn't so expensive, haha! Excellent explanation and examples, thank you!

I’m just learning to canter now. I was just starting to get the “scooping” motion in my lesson the other day and am looking forward to practicing more next week. The first attempt was a bit scary as I felt like I was going to bounce right out of the saddle. Second go was much better. Hopefully third time better still. Thank you for this great video.

Hey! After some advice, I've gone from a 14.3hh coblett to a 16.3hh well schooled school master, he's got massive strides and I have lack of core muscle. Please tell me how on earth I sit to it 🙈 if I pull on the reins he tends to throw his head down and pull me out the saddle too. X

Honestly you need to strengthen your body up too !!! To develop an independent seat you must be strong enough through your core . Have a look at some Pilates videos on KZbin ! Pilates is the only reason I can sit quiet to my big moving lad as I’m strong enough to do so 🥰🥰 have a go !!! Just a couple exercises a day will help ! Xxx

@@ZaraMuradDressage Thank you so much, I will definitely take a look at pilates, never even thought about something like that. It probably doesn't help that I had been out of saddle having kids for 5 years prior to getting back on board too! I've enjoyed watching your videos :) xx

Hi! Thanks for the video! I've noticed that your inside knee is not attached to saddle when you're cantering, while the outside knee doesn't move away from the saddle. Is it ok? The reason I'm asking is because I'm cantering in the exactly same way. I was told that bit of my knees should be attached to the saddle so that if there are 2 banknotes between the knee and the saddle, it should stay there and do not fall. Could you please comment on this?

Could you please do a video or add to this video a part where you show us what you do with your hips in or when you’re cantering but on the ground maybe in a profile view. I feel like there’s so many different ways to move hips or etc. and I need to visually see the movement to better understand just how the spook or whether I need to move more or less, etc.

Good video, but I notice your left leg is turned out and causing your spur to continuously poke the side of your horse at canter. Was that your intent? Why not try pointing your toes towards the horse's shoulder thus making sure the spur doesn't inadvertently poke the horse's side.

Okay, so if you are not riding with a neutral spine (flat back) the pressure can end up hitting that part of your spine and causing discomfort. When you get on try tucking your tail bone under a little , this will give you a flatter back and then the pressure can travel with out discomfort :D Pilates would help a lot also as the more you engage the core, the more it will take the work load !

@@ZaraMuradDressage I was just about to say start doing Pilates!!! I grew up riding unsupervised and old school western. I am super twisted from always mounting on the left. I won’t get on my horses now without doing Pilates to warm me up and even out the twist. Pilates and certain hip opening yoga routines...Rodney Yee Gaiam. But start at beginner stuff so you do it right! Growing up riding wrong impaired my abilities as an adult. It’s easier to learn it right the first time than retrain your brain. Sorry for my life story hope it helps!!!

I was really hoping this wasn't going to be a another scoop scoop scoop video. That's not very helpful for a rider with no talent like me. I've tried it and I end up leaning too far back trying to scoop. I like the way you ride canter; I would just describe it differently. Your upper body actually comes forward a bit when the front of the horse comes up. So it's like you're moving to meet him. Then when you sit back up straight -- that's the so-called scoop. I have not tried consciously doing this yet, but for sure I'm trying to blast the scoop image out of my head! It's obviously helpful for many people, because so many people describe it that way. Just not for me. In this Mary Wanless video she talks about people being taught to polish the saddle with their bum (that is, scooping); her demonstration of people trying to do that is me to a T. And the person riding canter looks great, same as you. It's just described differently. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6TIaWp4Zsp0b8k
