I had horrible constipation on carnovore, I tried everything but nothing worked untill I tried CALM a powdered magnesium. It worked overnight and wow !! I had tried magnesium pills but that didn't help so try the powder.

Omg I'm eating too many egg white and dairy. And maybe even processed meat. I'm in sooo much pain . I've never been constipated, in fact opposite.

Just dealt with THE WORST constipation from carnivore. The main thing that I'm going to try is finding the upper limit of my fat intake. I'd rather have diarrhea than constipation. So I'm going to eat so much fat that I have diarrhea, and then dial it back from there. Yikes! Can never let that happen again.

Was going only every five days and it turned into a several hour, straining, exhaustive process. Not fun. 🥵 Then upped my water intake and also fat intake. Now I’m going every other day. So much better.

I’m 10 days into carnivore. My guts have completely shut down. No bm’s. I might have to stop eating as I’m worried about my colon bursting. My fat and salt intake is high. I guess I could chew more and up the water. But man this is terrible.

@@CelesteWhoknows I had to take a lot of magnesium citrate or a salt water flush to get a result. Eventually it got more normal. But don’t except much a BM on carnivore in general, the meat is well absorbed.

I suffered from diarrhea the first month. My wife read up about maganezium which I was over supplementing. Cut stout and the normal stools resulted. She has constipation issues and magnesium clears that up. @@Wds__99

It took almost 7 days for me to have my first BM - I added half a banana to some water and protein mix during my transition. Also try Calm Magnesium, this will / should help with BM. Both helped me. Now it’s been almost two months and I have 2 - 3 BM a week. Make sure you’re not eating any precessed meats.

Been on carnivore for 3 months...all has been fine.....until now.....bad constipation ! ...i found that some mega strong coffee really got things moving better than anything.

Just remember guys dont just drink straight water all the time. Dont drink tap water. Aim for distilled, reverse osmosis or true spring water and make sure to add a tad of sodium because sodium helps get the water into the cells. Aim for himalaya salt with around 75 minerals and celtic salt is even more ideal with around 85 minerals

I eat until I'm full, I noticed I get full very fast now on Carnivore even at around 600 calories or more so I only eat twice a day maybe a total of around 1200 calories per day.i do want to eat more like you suggested but I am so stuffed and 5 hours later I eat lunch even when I'm still not hungry so I will not force myself to eat more if I'm not hungry, that is just the way my body is working and I'm fine 😊

I've dealt with constipation the most when I went carnivore 4/29/2019-11/2/2020 (switched to carnivore). Have had a gastric sleeve 4 umbilical hernia operations and gall bladder removed and 2 panniculectomies. Working with gastro doctor. I tried low fodmap. Then last year he had me on mirilax 2x a day. No way to live. Switched to carnivore. Been taking magnesium citrate and C but stopped when told it's a bandaid. In the beginning of Carnivore, I had the runs and back to constipation. So hard to go. Chew extremely well. Do need to up water a little. Stopped eggs. Cut way back on cheese to none. Drink Dr. Bergs electrolyte powder but will stop when runs out. I need to walk more... Not just steps but walking. Joining a gym again. Don't know what to do!!! Also take 10mg. omeprazole once a day. I try to stop but by day 4, can't chew enough tums. Very discouraged. Tired of being told to eat fiber veggies. Sorry so long! 😓

Considered a low fat diet? Or try hcl w pepsin? There's great evidence to take magnesium. Citrate is considered an osmotic laxative. Will it increase your magnesium levels in your body....??? If not I would say a band-aid.

Teri, that sounds frustrating. Mg citrate gave me lots of gas, probably because it is made often from CORN. I've been using Dr. Carolyn Dean's (author of "The Magnesium Miracle") ReMag formula and it works great! It is an ionic form of magnesium chloride that is of pico-meter size that is 99% absorbed at the cellular level, so it doesn't act like a laxative at useful doses. I find all dairy to be constipating for me. With eggs, I only eat the yolks now. Doctors have told me all my life to increase fiber. That's a load of crud. I just watched two great YT videos about fiber, a 6min one by Dr. Paul Mason ("Fibre worsens constipation and this can be a problem on ketogenic diets") and the other a 30min humorous video by Dr. Zoë Harcombe ("What about Fiber?"). Highly recommend them!

As always, great info! 👍Thank you! Have started including daily 16 oz. sole water based on one of your previous videos. Add 6 drops of Lugol's iodine plus a few drops of Ketochow magnesium drops to the concoction. Sip throughout the day. I drink a fair amount of additional💧throughout the day. At the end of the day I feel like I need more electrolytes so I drink 16 Oz of Re-Lyte mix which is satisfying. Sounds like I also need to up my protein based on your suggestions. 💟

I take a magnesium supplement daily for my Charlie horses in my calves but I’m sure it is what also helps me have bowel movements as well as helps me sleep.

@@katerobinson4030 Do you mean dependent as in producing a laxative benefit? I suppose that might occur if you were taking mega-doses of mag citrate. But I don't think it would be an issue with reasonable amounts.

I was constipated for years and I still am on carnivore with lots of water and fat, mostly butter. Can butter cause this if I'm dairy sensitive?

Judy, I tried the carnivore diet for 13 months with a history of chronic constipation. This persisted for the entire time so I gave up. I went 53 days at one point before I had a bm which was dry and very difficult and painful to pass. I found it impossible to eat sufficient amounts of meat and fat or drink adequate water simply because the meat / fat seeemed to sit in my stomach for hours and hours.. I did not supplement with minerals either. I desperately want to improve my health, which is at an all time low, however do not know what to do to improve my sluggish digestion.

Dr Chaffee mentions up your fat intake to help have a BM and one that’s soft because you don’t want dry poop, that’s where the straining comes in if it’s to dry.

If food is sitting long after eating, it may be beneficial to try Betaine HCL with Pepsin. Steve Wright has great videos and products - find his videos about the hcl challenge. He was interviewed by Sarah (a.k.a. CarnivoreYogi). Great info. I have tried 2 different brands of HCL (including his) and seems to help the full feeling.

I am 2 months into a strict lion's diet. I have esophageal peristalsis dysmotility and gastroparesis. I am severely constipated and always feel like there's something stuck in my throat. First off, the thing the carnivore community is not sharing with you because they don’t understand this. As “bioavailable” as red meat is, it’s also one of the hardest foods for the body to break down, and it also takes the longest for the body to break it down. Which means this can potentially create an imbalance where if you’re already compromised in someway shape or form your stomach acid is not acidic enough to break down the meat, the fats, etc. the protein. You do need to take some type of bitters or pepsin with Beat HCL. You also need to make sure that your bio is running appropriately so you do want to take axles afterwards. Dosage is very different per individual. I already had a compromised digestive system and had a stupid nutritionist put me on a carnivore diet, which made things worse for me. Because my stomach ass was already low and I was not secreting and producing the proper enzymes because of another infection I had going on in my colon so actually a carnivore diet is the last thing that anyone with the compromised digestive issue should be on and what should be more recommended is lighter foods that are easier for the body to digest like lean meats, chicken, fish, avocado, eggs, etc. Not hard-core steaks and fat. Because things are already not flowing properly so your body is not gonna properly digest it and it’s gonna make the body work that much harder and when it’s already in a compromise state, that’s a stupid as shit you could recommend anyone, but that’s what these carnivores tell you it’s great for everybody and that’s not the truth. Because what works best for one person‘s body does not work the best for the next and that is the truth.

I forgot to add that most days I'm OMAD but know I can't eat as much as most people like that. So trying 2x a day. Too much butter and it comes back to haunt me. Good with tallow and now added some pork belly once in awhile.

Your example in this video of protein intake is wonderful if you're trying to maintain what you already have well what if you have suffered muscle atrophy or an extended period of time and now you have to completely rebuild your muscles do you go by the same formula or do you have to intake a higher level of protein then the maintenance level?

I only have one back tooth on bottom, making chewing difficult. Soon, I'll be getting it pulled and 2 months later getting partials. Of course, I'll have to learn to eat after getting those. So, for next 3 months it will be difficult to chew as much as needed. What can I eat during this time, that is SOFT, but still healthy and continue my weight loss?

Bristol #4 For me for last 2yrs now I remember the first time (I KNOW tmi) looked in the bowl 2yrs ago when doing HF carnivore for a month or so ........and seeing #4 at the bottom of bowl I was like .........."YES"!!! So strange to me that ppl struggle to.eat enough on CV, I struggle to not overeat, I'm.hungry every 3 to 4 hours and will wake in the night if i eat too early in the evening. Wish I could eat less.

I’ve never had that problem but some of the CV doctors have said that if your body is undernourished from eating the wrong way previously. I think it was the steak and butter videos spoke to this as a personal experience after having been vegan and switching to CV. She eventually stopped gaining and the weight came off. I’d consider this and do some research. Good luck!!

I find that if I go to bed hungry while on carnivore (regardless of calorie intake), i wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep, i should be in ketosis right ? any suggestions ? Thank you, Judy

@@sandrasatterfield4432One theory I've heard is that your glycogen stores get depleted (in your scenario). This produces a stress response (cortisol, adrenaline) in the middle of the night, which makes you "alert" and unable to go back to sleep. I used to have that problem until one expert said try consuming a small amount of carbs about an hour or so before bedtime. This worked for me. So, about an hour before bed I eat a small amount (40 grams or 1.5 ounces) of frozen blueberries or frozen cherries.

Have you tried eliminating eggs and dairy? I'm having major problems too...thinking about doing lion and the trying to add things back. I've even heard that pork can cause constipation.

I have gal stones and soon I will have it removed... what can I do to improve my digestion because I think my gallbladder can't keep up with breaking the fat... maybe some enzymes would help? Does anyone have any idea?

Isn’t it 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight and not pounds? That confuses me all the time, everyone says something else. Per kilogram would add up with the keto macros for protein.

Nope. That amount would be in the very low spectrum. We need around 1.5g of protein per kg of body weight (ideally 2.0g) to reach our daily protein goal. The 0.8g per pound would translate to around 1.75g per kg, which is a good number.

Basically, it seems after listening to all the docs on carnivore and constipation, I find if constipation happens when you are on Carnivore, then it's not the diet for you and could tear your colon. And you don't want that just to be on diets that cause strain and constipation. You carnivore experts need a better remedy than what's out there. In the meantime, it's back to the carnival diet.
