I’m not normally one to comment on videos, but wow...I’ve been playing this game on and off for almost 40 years, and my swing has been a lie the entire time. I took this video to the Toptracer range with me this afternoon and added 35 yards carry to my 7 iron with much tighter dispersion. Holy effing eff effer.

This is something that has escaped me because I was taught to turn hands over at impact. This is a huge change and challenge but breaking that habit leads to absolutely pure contact. I have worked on this and revert at times but stack and tilt and maintaining the wedge makes for pure contact and the swing speed is there. Thanks a bunch Tom! You are simply brilliant!

And sadly, yes - it is counter to everything you and countless others have been mistaught for years. Thanks for your kind words, keep up the great work, and have a Blessed and Happy New Year!! Tom

I just want to thank you for your videos.Last night I was watching your videos about extending and FF, went down stairs at 1AM to try it, it's so weird and hard. This morning, there was a Tee time opened, I took it. I've never had so much fun as today. The golf course I used to play 94-99 scores and I did 89, well, you can't help with the putting, if I could cut down 3 putts, wow it would be in the low 80's. Now, the amazing thing was I only did half swings, every swing I straighten my arms, keep the trail arm to my peck and punch on the way down, the ball went further and straighter, yes, they're not long, but I did have more green regulations than ever before. All the people in my group, they're amazed how low I brought the club up but the down swing with the punches were amazing. I got birdie the first hole, par second, only a few holes I did the FF like before and screwed me up. Can't wait to master the swings with muscle memories as they say and lift up higher. Now I can see the people are swinging up high and balls went all over the place. LOL.

THANK YOU! Finally someone explained it! We're not really supposed to "release" the club. People flip because they think they're supposed to use their wrists. Just use the correct body rotation, arm positions, and max lag, and the club pretty much works on it's own. This video helped contribute to my ah-ha moment this week, I have started to hit with forward shaft lean and possibly cured my flipping! Some other trail elbow videos helped, and the Callaway anti-flip stick, but I finally found the correct feeling and keeping the right wrist bent was a huge help, thank you Tom.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 жыл бұрын
I'm very glad to know that this has helped you, DJ-Flights! If I must say so myself, this is perhaps one of the most important lessons out there. We've all been taught to "release" the club, and that has resulted in a vast majority of amateurs being handsy flippers. Just hitting a couple of little chips and pitches while retaining the angle between the trail hand will give you some great instant feedback, and then as you work yourself up to the full swing....WOW!!! Thanks for sharing! Tom
@dj-flights7376
@dj-flights7376 4 жыл бұрын
SagutoGolf Definitely! I actually tied my right arm to my body with my belt and took several swings (from club parallel to ground) just to get the rotation and feel right. Once I got solid contact without releasing, it all came together from there. I’m working my way up to full swing speed next, focusing on my right elbow position. Looking for that “Wow” soon. Thanks again!

I've been so far down the rabbit hole with rotating and releasing the last couple of years it has been nothing but frustration. I have been a functional flipper and I have never had control over anything with random results. I tried your method today and hit two buckets of balls. In no time I was hitting dead-straight crisp irons with lovely trajectory. I literally can't wait to go out and play tomorrow. Thank you!

Great tip Tom, I’m 52 I have a bad back, I switched to your teaching last week, I play off 10, I shot 80 the first time with 11 birdie putts, played pairs open at my club and won the longest drive ( BooM) it was a pure slight push draw, 300yds, I used to sway off the ball just could not stop, using all the old swing tips, stacking has really helped me out, and I’m now pain free playing and after a round, keep up the good work, and I love your teaching methods very funny all the best from England .

Been working on this Tom. It’s made me realise that I’ve been trying to apply a square club-face to the ball by slowing the hands at impact to erroneously allow time for a rotation of the forearms - a roll-over flip if you like. I stems from a feeling that the face opens during the backswing and if I don’t rotate the forearms on the downswing the face will be open at impact. I can also feel the fingers in my right hand trying to apply some force before impact so I have zero chance of maintaining the flying wedge into impact. My new downswing swing thought is “fast hands” and I find I don’t need to try to consciously square the face. Fast hands helps me to maintain the right wrist angle and pull a lagging club head through the ball. I still can’t quite figure out how the face returns to square from being open just as the downswing starts. I’m hitting really good drives (some draws)even though it feels like the ball should be going hard right off the face. Thank you again.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 жыл бұрын
davidstevan - Awesome job figuring out how to make this work for you!! And if you're hitting some nice push draws, that tells me that there's plenty of good stuff going on in your swing. (Know that the face has to be slightly open to the target line at impact in order to get that push, and slightly closed to the swing path in order to get it to draw back. This is what we like to see!!) Thanks for sharing your flip-free success!!! Tom

@@SagutoGolf Thanks, mate. I only intended to practice today but was roped into a round with the old fellas who play every every morning. After hitting 50 or so balls to warm up, I hurriedly hit the course. Nice off the 1st tee but a 46 on the front. Only one really false stroke (I topped a 5 from under the trees) however. 3 x 3 putts and other assorted short game foibles made the score tick upwards quickly. But I stuck with it knowing i was striking it well to shoot 37 on the back side. 2 birds and 4 bogeys. An 83 after 6 recent rounds and a gap of 12 years to the first of those. I've started adding in some smash with the right hand and I've started finding my old distance as a result. The crisp thwack I'm getting is addictive. 50 x 175ish 7 irons after the round. Still the occasional fatty in there but if I concentrate again after one, I hit it KFC. Cheers!

I have been through numerous instructors over the past 35 years with varying results. Most give small tidbits that don't stick as the method they teach is not sound. I sometimes think they really don't want you to improve so they can keep you coming back. Some of these instructors have been on the top 50 golf instructors list. You are the first one that instructs the golf swing with a straight forward no BS approach. Your personality helps as well. You explain the issue and the correction very well. Thank you for your videos. I was a swayer as I was told to load my back leg with flexed knee. I have suffered back issues because of it. I am now 60 years old and after watching your videos have been hitting my irons pretty good with some of the lost distance returning. Th driver is still a bit of an issue as old habits kick in during a round. Anyway, thank again.

Tom, love your channel! I am a classic early extender, lose my relationship to the ball on the downswing, and then of course I poop scoop cast/flip the club through impact. I am a 7 handicap, so I would be one of those guys that can time it relatively well and hit quite far, but I will shoot 75 one day and 85-90 the next 3 rounds. I would love to see a video on early extension fixes, but I think poop scoop flipping goes hand and hand with losing your relationship with the ball or early extension as some call it. I have to tell you though, I have finally been able to keep my relationship to the ball THROUGH IMPACT as you constantly talk about. It was amazing! I will say my biggest hurdle doing it was, for me, when I would tilt the left shoulder down and keep a good relationship to the ball, I felt like my chest was sooooo close to the ball/ground that I was going to hit the ground about 2 feet behind the ball and dig deep into the ground. Once I tried this flying wedge drill, as well as keeping my arms pinned to my sides, I was FINALLY able to turn through impact while keeping my relationship to the ball, and BOOM, no more early extension?! Been trying to do that for 10 years or better. Just thought I would share my experience and let all the viewers know that for me, it took multiple items you constantly discuss (arms pinned, relationship, shorter backswing, flying wedge) to finally break a bad 10+ year habit that has been holding me back. Now that I can finally FEEL what it is like, I think I will never early extend again. I will check back in and let you know where my handicap ends up! Cheers!

J Wilkinson - I appreciate your kind words and am very glad to learn that the instruction you're getting here is helping you! By the way, here are a couple of additional thoughts if you're interested in going beyond the content of this channel's lesson videos: 1) If you'd really like to get on the fast track towards owning this swing, please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing (including the finer points and feels) and much more. Here's a link if you'd like additional info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga. 2) For a very useful supplement to the online school, consider purchasing a copy of the Stack & Tilt book by Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. As a current FF’er… this was an outstanding video… allow the arms to stay straight brings dynamic shaft loading in the play… so clean. Question maintaining the wedge does this work with the driver as well on a full swing?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that this lesson clicked with you, Leo, and now that you are armed with this knowledge I hope you are able to use it to the betterment of your game. Yes - this also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo By the way, the Precision Impact that I’ve demonstrated in various lesson videos including this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nofbhYZ5g7elpdE - is an excellent training aid that will help you to neutralize the cause and overcome your FF'ing issue. I highly recommend it. If interested you can get your Precision Impact Trainer here - pureswingproducts.com/SagutoGolf Tom

Tom that really pleased me because I'm a natural in keeping the wedge right through the hit But some times I pull the shot to the left or slap the ball with no power to the right. I know you can give me the advice to stop this.Ill be waiting for your advice Your biggest fun Tony oh you great one
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Tony - The fact that you maintain "the wedge" through impact means that you already have a lot of good stuff going on! There are a number of variables that can cause pulls or weak blocks, so without actually seeing what is going on I'm hesitant to offer a possible cure because if it's the wrong one it may make matters worse. Two standard and easy checks though are to ensure that 1) you're not rolling or fanning the club open on the backswing, and 2) that your wrists only hinge up and down and not side to side. Have you enrolled in my online school yet? For a mere $10/month it'll get you on the fast track to owning this swing through short, simple, step-by-step videos. Here's a link if you'd like more info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga. Additionally, I recommend purchasing a copy the Stack & Tilt book by Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. It will serve you well as a textbook reference guide for the swing and will be highly supportive of what you learn in my online school and here in these channel videos. The book also contains and entire chapter on fixing common faults, with several pages on the type of issue you are experiencing. Finally, I am available to assist with swing video analysis and/or online lessons. You can learn more about these various options here: app.v1sports.com/Saguto-Golf Thanks! Tom

Once again in watching your lessons it's all about going back to the basics and practicing the swing while taking a video to see if you are doing the moves correctly, I find to go slow on the backswing I do the swing well. Correcting a bad 30 year old swing has done wonders for my game, I just go on your SagutoGolf web site that I subscribed to and watch the videos over and over, and then go out in the backyard and practice the moves to make them correct, when you go to the course those moves are starting to get ingrained into your head and lo and behold there is the swing.

Tom, I know the flying wedge and SAT works great with irons. Unfortunately I am a lover of woods, in many lofts. Do you think you could do a video with a 3 or 5 wood showing your setup and results so I can visualize a repeatable swing off the ground with my woods? I use 50 year old persimmon 1,2,3,4 woods because I love their balance, shorter length, and control, they feel like long irons compared to modern woods. When I smash a brassie off turf the ball tumbles forever and straight. But I love SAT for irons. Thanks

Hi Jack, We preserve that angle through impact, after which the forearms will naturally "trade places". There should not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have led many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Here is another related lesson video that may help to clarify: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iabRdIVrqq-Sl9E And here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Tom

If this didn't clarify. I literally grabbed the club with my hands separated. Then pulled it back. It started with keeping lead arm straight and pulling the club back with the trail arm (right for right handed golfers). It's a weird feeling, but so worth it. I set my driver to 8 degrees and am BOMBING the ball 260-280 anywhere I want. Manipulation becomes easy after this becomes comfortable. Hope you all have a good day!!!!!!!

Hi, another great video Tom. Do you have the same wedge with a driver ? thanks
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Marcus - it’s essentially the same swing with every club in your bag.... (except the putter, perhaps 😆) Just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. While some may find this hard to believe due to all the erroneous information they've been fed over the years, perhaps with the exception of folks with slow swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants using extra high tees and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - the path with the driver is still ever so slightly down. In fact, believe it or not the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.3 degrees - nearly level but slightly down nonetheless! It'd sure be difficult to achieve proper impact position - hands leading the clubface, bowed front wrist - if we were actually hitting up on it. So yes - the "wedge" - or angle between the trail forearm and shaft - applies to the driver just like it does with every other club. Cheers! Tom PS: If you'd really like to own this swing through your entire bag please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school as it is one of the best golf instruction values out there. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing and much more. The school's intuitive course curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm regularly adding new content. Tom, love your informative videos. Flying wedge is a great addition. Should the wedge system be used for driver? Woods? Hybrids? Also, the contribution option versus subscription might be a good option. Ben

I'm glad to know that you are enjoying the videos, Ben! Yes - fly that wedge through your entire bag!! (I wish they had come up with a different term; "flying wedge" can lead folks to believe that it only applies to wedges and not to all clubs...) I'm not familiar with the "contribution option". I am happy to see new subscribers to this free channel every day, and for those who wish to maximize the benefits of this swing system and put it into play quickly, the SagutoGolf online school is a steal at just $10/month or $99/year. Wow another great video, No more F - Fer's allowed. I noticed on this video and most of your previous videos that you turn your head - chin slightly down and to the right just prior to your takeaway. I assume that this is part of the Saguto Stack and Tilt swing? Can you please explain the reason. I know J. Nicklaus preset his head as he got old, you ain't old!!! Thanks

Randy - Stop being so FF'ing observant in pointing out my nuances, LOL!!!!! NO! That head turn thing is neither a desired nor taught element of the "SS&T" swing. For me it's like a bad rash that just won't go away, and I am methodically working to rid myself of it. So yes - it is a case of "physician heal thyself"!! And he will, in due time..... Cheers! Tom

It is one of the more frequently asked questions, LOL! Anyway, yes - it’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZfQpa2vfZilqaM. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX3NqIiVZqiWbdE If you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. Speaking of which, if you'd really like to own this swing through your entire bag please consider enrolling in my online school as so many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. The school's intuitive curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, plus there’s so much additional guided instruction courses and content on the many other aspects of the game. @@SagutoGolf Tom, thanks so much for the quick and thorough response. I'll check out the videos and your school. Last question. So are you a proponent of the stack & tilt method? I know that it has gotten a bad rap over the years and always wondered why.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 жыл бұрын
@MJB7322 - Proponent? It's what I teach, LOL! Here's the story of my “conversion”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn6bnYGEp7KDe80 😎 Stack and Tilt is a model of the golf swing based on data from the game’s best ball strikers, and it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology. For this reason, someone can be doing S&T without even knowing that they're doing it. This is because there are basic requirements that must be met to compress a golf ball consistently on the center of the clubface. There are also components necessary to add power to the golf swing without sacrificing accuracy. S&T determined from a study of the best golfers of all time that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hitting the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Having enough swing speed to play the golf course well (power) 3. Being able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A golfer MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and S&T is a system and a model for accomplishing these fundamentals incredibly well! As far as Tour players using 100% of it, 99% of it, 97% of it, or 78% of it, it doesn't really matter because they're ALL doing it to some extent. Those 3 fundamentals never change! As such, isn’t it a shame that countless golfers across the globe have been steered away from learning this repeatable, powerful, body-friendly swing due to the ongoing unwarranted criticism spewed by the “mainstream”?? (Likely because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant.......) So instead, the many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into- and torquing against - a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). So it's purely up to you if you wish to heed the propaganda or try for yourself and make your own decision. I opted for the latter and am a far better golfer - as well as a teacher with countless thousands of students and subs enjoying the best ball striking of their lives - as a result.

@@SagutoGolf Tom, I just watched your video on how you came to S&T. I came to your "Always Pure Contact" video b/c I had watched another instructor (Rob Cheney) talk about the right forearm flying wedge and then found your video. I had heard of the RFFW for years but never really committed to doing it correctly. Your and Cheney's videos finally broke a barrier in my brain. Yesterday I played and I didn't fully commit to maintaining the RFFW until about the 15th hole. For whatever reason I maintained the RFFW and though I didn't swing anywhere near as hard as I usually do, I felt the most pure contact I believe I have ever felt and the ball flew dead straight and far. It was a feeling like no other. I had that feeling on 3 other swings with my irons as I finished my round (some better than others) but I was hooked! I have follower other instructors and had numerous lessons but remained inconsistent, which is beyond frustrating. So will I try S&T? Very likely! I want to work on the RFFW and then progress from there. Thanks again for your response. Cheers!

Unfortunately, Louis, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 I don't think much about the fingers. But if you've been flipping or rolling the hands through the zone, then work on this and I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised at how well it firms up your impact condition. Tom at 4.50 you talk about taking the club back & down with your turning chest & NOT your arms/hands which seems a very important action to find perfect impact repeatedly & not scooping the hands nor rolling them. Am I correct in my understanding of this?. Also in talking about a correct transition sequence I understand that it should begin with moving more pressure from the ground (& not the arms nor upper body) up my lead foot & leg. Am I right in wanting to post up & straighten that lead leg in the downswing & how forcefully should I be doing this? Should it be straight by impact or have I got this wrong?.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 жыл бұрын
@mplunky1 - I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. This is one reason is why the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is so effective, and why so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.
