I’m just saying this, before I started watching Saguto, I tried watching a ton of different golf videos and saw no improvement in my game. Then I saw the “Hogan’s Magic Elbow” episode and have been watching Tom for over a year now and my game has improved dramatically. Weight forward, tuck that right elbow, keep the left arm straight, and swing in a circle! Best golf teacher on KZbin for sure!!

This is it-and hang on to the hinge/L as long as possible...the club release will take care of itself. A year ago I came out of winter having forgotten how to play. A friend advised me to watch "gabbygolfgirl". (The women/LPGA players are the most technically sound-best teachers.) I had gone from a solid 85 struggling to break 100-now I am, mostly, playing between 76 and 82...85 is a bad day. I am 71...I had moved up the women's tee-it didn't make a difference. My wife has made me move back :)

Tom, is correct I never played golf until my late 50's started watching tom, and other stack and tilt, and similar style golf instruction folks 5-6 ago. I hit in the upper 70'2 to low 80's now. when I started in the 100's. some people have been critical of these universal fundamental of golf just because the teach it in a named style, no random . Its really that simple.
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
I appreciate your validating remarks for this fantastic Stack and Tilt swing system, Steve, and I'm thrilled for your success. Excellent job!! 💪💪 This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, and yes - inclusive of the best players in the world. One can watch any Tour event on TV and they'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Conversely, one would do well to consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). So, despite the ridiculous "stigma" attached to S&T by those who either don't understand it or who are otherwise inconvenienced by truth, the indisputable laws of physics and geometry cannot be held back, regardless of whether or not the "forbidden label" is attached to any particular player's swing. 😎 Thanks again for your message and support, and keep up the great playing! Tom

Nice response, especially to the “forbidden label”, which some use as a sneer. Simplicity founded in sound principles is what the average golfer needs and you deliver that. Good work mate.

Dear Tom.... You are Money and I can't say thank you enough . I now know how it feels to compress a ball and get amazing loft effortlessly . I finally shot into the low 80's by adopting weight forward in set up stance, straight left arm and shoulder turn toward the ball with both arms extended on the follow thru . My biggest problem now is recalibrating my club distance . You're the best and I love the sense of humor on your videos . Keep up the good work and I will be ordering your other courses . I joined Saguto golf last week and said I would feedback on KZbin. What do you get for your money? A golfing system broken into bite size chunks, each with easy to follow instructions. Has the package had any impact in a week and if so what? My grip is better and my club returns to square at impact. My weight distribution has enabled me to bring my club back to a consistent impact position. My back swing is connected and I now know what that means. My slice has turned into an occasional event not a permanent feature. What would you say the biggest difference has been in a week? I am reducing the variables and I am starting to compress the ball. Is this a wonder package? The truth is that you get out what you put in and consistency will take a while to achieve but it has been brilliant to have a set of reference videos. Are your shots crispy? Many are but previously none were. Is it worth the money? Sign up and cancel after a month if you are unhappy but I bet you won’t be.

Hi Andrew, I'm most grateful for your taking the time to circle back here and provide your initial impressions of the online school, and I'm very glad to learn of the extent to which you are benefiting from the sequential curriculum in just one week. You are absolutely correct in that there is no magic elixir or "Easy" button, and one's return is commensurate with their commitment level and time investment. However, if the process is properly adhered to - as you are doing - then expectations of ball striking improvement are typically met or exceeded - as you are experiencing. Well done! And yes - I did my best to price the school at a "no-brainer" level given the quality and effectiveness of the delivered product, and I sincerely appreciate you recognizing the fact that at just $14.99/month with no long-term commitment required it is truly painless to try. Wow just got back from the range and its the best session ive had in quite a while. I was really struggling with my wrist angles and i feel like i went down a rabbit hole. Id watched a few of your videos in the past about the no hands swing so i re watched and took it to the range. Having the right arm fully tucked throughout took a while but when i got the feel for it, my striking was so much better. And all i had was one thought - tuck the right elbow. So thanks Tom! I'll be checking back in with your vids more regularly to stay on top of it. Keep up the great work 👌👌
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
That's fantastic! 💪💪 If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup- including that tucked trail arm - and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. While there are certainly other videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for sharing your ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! I watch a TS video before work every day, I am totally invested in weight forward, circular swing now. I just want to get out on course every day now. Before Tom, months would pass and I wouldn't even miss this! As a dedicated supporter, I would love to watch you record 18 holes showing the swing across an entire round, your ideas on course management and seeing how weight forward stacks up with different lies, distances etc! Also great to see it work through chipping and pitching too. This would be gold for players like myself trying to improve following your system. Only problem now is work or golf lol!

More great stuff, Simon, and your steady stream of kind and supportive comments is very much appreciated! If you've not already viewed it, here is a 9-Hole Course Vlog from a few years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j325mZlmi8mKidk While I enjoy doing them, the course vlogs are rather difficult for me to justify from a cost-benefit perspective. They take considerable time to record and produce, and they just don't garner anywhere near the viewership and interest in comparison to the lesson videos. I must keep the desires of my general audience in mind in this regard. That's not to say I won't do another at some point, but presently my primary focuses are supporting my online school and its members while creating quality instruction content for this channel's subs and visitors. thanks again, and I wish you well with your golf/work dilemma.....😆😆 Tom

I started playng golf three years ago, and I discovered Tom's videos about two and half years ago. No exaggeration, his advice dramatically improved my game *in a day*! I still hit bad shots once in a while, and when I think about why that shot went bad, it's always because I failed to implement Tom's advice.

Short and sweet here. After 30 years of lessons and grinding away for thousands of hours and never shooting better than 86 and then falling apart again to the point of shooting 101 two weeks ago I finally decided to give Tom’s Stack and Tilt a system a try. Watched a few videos, went to the range twice during the week last week to practice it, I was hopeful. Well, played this last Saturday and although it wasn’t a 20 shot difference I shot 91. I fell apart a little the last few holes due to early season fatigue and back issues, but I know the fundamentals are solid and with more practice and endurance to stay strong through 18 holes I’ll be back into the 80’s again, and at 55 with a bad back that the conventional swing just destroyed, I’ll take it. Ten stroke improvement in one week, that’s incredible.

Tom, in my opinion, this is THE key video in full agreement with my (simple) ideas of golf. I am not an expert (starting with golf in an age of 65 some 7 years ago), but I try to simplify the golf swing as far as possible. And my primary objectives are (1) centered rotation (i.e., head quiet as long as possible - at least from the beginning of the swing to the impact or even better up to horizontal arms after impact), and (2) straight left arm over the same range. In the second item, I encounter one problem: for me it is possible to keep the left arm straight up to the end of the backswing; however, immediately after starting the downswing I get a slight bending of the arm which remains more or less for the remaining part of the swing. Do you have any idea hwo to train off this slight bending?
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that my instruction content is resonating with you! If it is just a slight bend and it's not causing any issue with your ball striking, then I wouldn't concern myself with it. If, on the other hand, your contact is inconsistent, then let's make sure that the big muscles of the shoulders are driving the swing with the arms just going along for the ride in order to suppress any type of "hit" instinct at the top that may be causing the breakdown. By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. If the "ground force" doesn't happen on autopilot, then the "feel" we like to ingrain is tucking the butt under the hips through the zone, which causes the belt buckle to raise up a few inches from pre- to post-impact. It can also be likened to a high jumper pushing off his or her lead leg as they propel themselves upward and over the bar. This releases the spine from flexion to extension - a very powerful move. By the way, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo I hope that helps! Tom

Tom, I have limited myself to watching only your videos now after watching and trying tips from a few dozen other online instructors. I can keep my weight left/forward during the backswing. I try to turn my left shoulder under my chin and then my right shoulder (and hips} thru the wall on the forward swing. I still struggle keeping my left arm straight and I still hit predominantly toe shots. My extreme toe hits (out on the shiny part of the iron) is why I started looking for online help. Do you have any videos to help my re-find the center of the clubface ? I do it on irons, hybrids and woods, but not pitches, chips or putts.

Hi Michael, I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. There are various causes of toe hits, with the most common being related to setup (for example, the arms are not hanging down naturally and are in fact slightly reaching away from the body at address), a breakdown of the arm structure, early extension of the trail arm, flipping or rolling through the zone, and/or a downswing path that is coming from the outside and across the ball. Having said that, it's really not possible for me to diagnose the cause of your toe hits without actually seeing your swing. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address the issues that can result in toe strikes, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Beyond that, the Precision Impact that I’ve demonstrated in various lesson videos including this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nofbhYZ5g7elpdE - is an excellent training aid that will help you to neutralize the cause and overcome this issue. Hi Russell, You may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Thanks! Tom

Question. I’m left handed but always played baseball batting right handed. I’ve played golf now for about seven years right handed. I’m not going to switch but my problem is I can’t get my left arm to stay straight in the backswing. I’m working on more rotation but it feels so weird especially not knowing how hinge my wrists with the straight arm. I shoot mid 80s to low 90s consistently but want to improve my contact consistency. Any tips?
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
I understand. I throw right-handed, eat and write left-handed, play guitar right-handed, and was a switch hitter in baseball....😆 Your lead arm should naturally hang straight and tension-free at address, so it's "simply" a matter of keeping it that way throughout the motion. I say "simply" but I know it is not necessarily "easy" at first. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to just go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

Great videos as usual Tom. Can you just review ball position in relation to left foot and are you still using jumbo plus grips? Greetings from Hershey,PA. Keep up the great work.
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
I appreciate that and I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my content! When watching any golf videos we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look. I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. I grew up in Adams County, PA and graduated from Bermudian Springs HS prior to relocating to SC. I remember always being excited at this time of the year as we could get to playing more regularly, although Mother Nature would occasionally hand us that surprise March or early April snow dump and throw an unwelcome monkey wrench in our plans LOL. Hopefully that won't happen this year! Can u talk about downswing what is your thought when club is coming down? Are you clearing your hips first?
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
I'm just driving the swing with my shoulders and allowing the hips to simply react as discussed and demonstrated in this recent video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fV6mlXl5hMeYnpY Having said that, as you know from being a regular viewer I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZbin content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Tom

Excellent hitting; and, an excellent demonstration on how to rotate whilst maintaining a centred position. But, i do think that the left side of the right leg has to press forwards, towards, the instep, before it can fully extend and complete the backswing
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
Thanks - I appreciate that! In this system the lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientation that we preset at address. The flexing/straightening occurs gradually and in response to the increasing forward weight load and the centered tilting, turning, and extending components of the motion. They are not contrived actions unto themselves. We're simply allowing them to be reactive, thereby freeing up the hips and shoulders to execute an unrestricted turn. Tom
@DASH1ful8 ай бұрын
@@SagutoGolf Yes, tilt is turn. And, at is something that you have identified in the swing that no other golf coach has. And, yes: an outward flared orientation is essential to the motion. And, a player can preset this at address, just simply by holding the club with their left hand, stepping up to the ball with their left foot; and, then stepping up to the ball with their right foot turned out. If they hold the handle of the club up high, with their left hand, they will press outwards with the left side of their right leg to enable them to place their right hand on the club

Thanks Damian - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I wouldn't be so concerned about distance at this juncture. Typically, once this swing is running properly on autopilot golfers experience significant increases in length, including with the driver. You are relatively early in the process and likely still ingraining your "feels" and thinking mechanical thoughts. In fact, here is a comment that Andrew just posted to KZbin regarding the school: _"I joined Saguto golf last week and said I would feedback on KZbin. Sign up and cancel after a month if you are unhappy but I bet you won’t be."_ Tom

Tom A video on the driver would be great as your method/ stack and tilt is challenging with the driver.
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. Hi Tom, ive been having trouble with doing the left arm straight without “forcing” anything. In some of your lessons in the course and youtube, you mention kind of putting your arms together and elbows in.. which feels like forcing that position to me. Can you explain during set up what exactly you focus on there?
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
Hi Charlie, If you are in the school you're better off asking questions like this in the Community so we can get you pointed in the right direction with regard to the more detailed lessons and drills available there. Your lead arm should hang straight naturally and without any "forcing" at address. As such, the simple act of moving the arms closer together and getting those elbows oriented more towards the hips can certainly be accomplished with the same natural straightness and suppleness. I can understand that if you are not accustomed to having this level of structure and connectivity it can feel weird and perhaps a little stiff at first when trying to create it. So instead, try this: stick a tee in each armpit area between the upper arms and the sides of your pec muscles, and then let the arms hang down naturally without any tension while keeping the tees in place. Now you should have the connection established without any forcing, stiffness, or tension. From there your mission is to execute the swing while keeping the tees in place. I hope that helps. If not, please seek assistance in the online school Community. Tom

Still dead hands? When I do this stuff, I tend to stand up in the downswing. Thoughts on that?

I just replied to your same question in a different thread. Yes - If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. TS

Who knows?!?) and I am that guy shooting 100-120. When I connect my drives or even iron shots.. people are like 'wow you can really hit the ball far!' Am I bumping my lead hip towards my target to have that 60/40 or 70/30 weight balance? Also why have other golf instructors teach to move the golf ball in different positions with different clubs compared to stack and tilt and having the golf ball in the same position?
@SagutoGolf8 ай бұрын
Hi Vinny, We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. As for ball position, your comment that it is static for Stack and Tilt is not accurate. While this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. Tom

There has been quite a bit of dialogue in the Members' Forum of my online school on the topic of how to transport "Ranger Rick" to the golf course. We all experience that! All I can tell you is that it is part of the process, and as your practice performance becomes more and more consistent, then it's just a function of time in terms of when/how that will translate itself to the pressures and challenges of actual play. As confidence in your swing grows you should find more and more that you are playing "golf" instead of "golf swing" on the course, at which point your mechanical thoughts will be reduced to one or two at the most, and you will be nearly entirely focused on your target and not your swing. Thanks - I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my lesson content! This also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or some of those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. You are turning many things right on the downswing. Although you cup your wrists in the backswing, you correct that as you start the downswing. You come quite far inward on the backswing, but somehow manage to not come over the top coming down. You are the living proof that most of the swing doesn't matter. You just need to get into the right position on the downswing where the club is horizontal. From there, the rest is easy.

Without seeing your swing it is impossible for me to make an accurate assessment of the cause of your discomfort, Daniel. What I can offer is that the swing I teach is a proven body-friendly method. Beyond my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, this is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of unrestricted hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Such unnecessary resistance can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the back, knees and the hip joints as the body will be fighting itself throughout the motion. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish.
