IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE BLUE SOFTWARE UPDATE ICON, THIS WILL NOT WORK, nor will turning things off other places nor any other clever idea you may come up with. The only firmware that comes with the blue Software Update icon that I've seen is the non-carrier-specific firmware. That firmware only comes on phones purchased from a 3rd party sources such as Walmart, etc. If it was purchased through a carrier, such Verizon, there will be no blue Software Update icon. Without the blue Software Update icon there is no way to stop the carrier's malware from upgrading your phone no matter how many other places you turn off updates and notifications nor what other steps you invent on your own. You CAN downgrade from Pie to Oreo and non-carrier-specific firmware using a patched Odin, and get the blue Software Update icon to prevent these malware attacks by your carrier, however, non-carrier-specific firmware also does not support all of the carrier's features, depending on which carrier. E.G. you may lose VoLTE (HD Voice), ViLTE (Video Calling), VoWiFi (Wi-Fi Calling), and carrier aggregation. You might respond with, "Those are world-wide standards.", to which I will respond, and they often don't use the world-wide standards. T-Mobile is the best at using standards, so more will work with them on the non-carrier-specific firmware than the others. So pick your poison. It's either non-carrier-specific standards-based firmware, and lose whatever services they have that are not standards-based, or be imprisoned by carrier-specific malware.
