Holding your breath is guaranteed to work, its just a matter of technique. Hold your breath, to the point where your lungs want you to exhale, lean into the urge to gasp, but dont let the breath escape from your throat, just let it gently fully return to your lungs, then repeat, do that for a few seconds then finally exhale and resume normal breathing. This is from someone who gets the hiccups *a lot*. That gagging to exhale stale air and inhale fresh air is the thing you're looking for, once the air in your lungs is stale enough, your lungs just want it out... supressing that reflex/impulse for a few seconds to prolong the gagging is the solution.

Actually, if you just pull down on either of your earlobes, hold it for 10 seconds or so, and the hiccups will stop. Guaranteed!

My method is to lie down on the floor. The surface shall be as plain as possible, no cushions, no blankets, only rug or carpet. My hiccups are connected to twitch in my stomach. Especially if I have just eaten an apple.

I have shown this technique to hundreds of people in the last couple of decades and it works EVERYTIME. I call it the Crash Position technique because it resembles the instructions you see on those airline safety videos they show you right before your flight, 1) Sit down in a straight back chair. 2) cross your arms over your chest. 3) slowly lean forward while keeping your arms crossed as far as you comfortable can WITHOUT felling any discomfort. 4) once bent over as far as possible hold your breath for at least 20-30 seconds if possible 5) While holding your breath try to squeeze your diaphragm/stomach muscle like you do when you do a sit up and also hold for 29-30 seconds. 6) after that 20-30 seconds breath out and wait 30 seconds and then try and repeat the process again for at least 1 to 2 more times 7) after finishing SLOWLY sit back up to a normal position and sit in the chair for a while "for at least a minute" just to make sure there's no dizziness. I cannot stress enough that if you have any physical or back issue DO NOT TRY THIS EXERCISE.. As I said, everyone I have shown this technique to has instantly gotten rid of the hiccups so I keep posting this comment every once in a while in the hopes to help the world get rid of annoying hiccups once and for all.

Well uh that's not where i thought that was going. 😂🤷‍♀️ I'm not sure how i figured this out. Though my way which has always worked... Even though sometimes I like hiccups. But if i want to stop them. I suck in air real fast until it's right in my stomach. Holding my mouth clothes and then forcing a hard cough. It stops. Always has worked.

Interesting info but why have the lame out-of-work actor sneaking up on people? If this was meant for children you wouldn't be talking about digital rectal massage.

Ok vet here what i Learned from more than 10.000 animals the only thing that helps is licking your lips. That stimulate the diaphragm to go back to normal rhytme.

Nah... just grab your L hand and massage the middle joint of your middle finger. "Roll" it around with the thumb and 1st finger on your R hand. It stops hiccups sooner!

My failsafe remedy is two slices of jam and bread with a cup of tea. Wolf it down as quickly as you can, and it works every time.
