Great explanation! About point 2, I once heard "think of your lead hand reaching for the right shoulder, lead arm kept straight" and that's the direction to keep the swing plane.

Excellent demonstration Todd! I especially liked the comment about the lead arm directing the outcome of where the club hits the ground. I have implemented the vertical swing into my game and it has proven successful. However, occasionally because of improper body movement I do have mishits. Always enjoy your presentations!

Great video. Thank you. So any suggestions for the player that struggles with the vertical strike. I thin to many irons. I think I'm ok as far as weight shift and getting compression, at least the position for compression, but I thin them. I don't top them, so a matter of degrees I guess, but I often don't come back down as low as I start. 60 years old might have something to fix with it, but I've always been a bit of a picker, not a divot digger. Again thanks.

Todd, so glad I found this channel. I've been struggling with hooks & pushed shots for a while now, the dreaded 2 way miss. After trying your takeaway drills & working on keeping the swing more vertical my ball striking has been transformed, thanks so much & you have a new subscriber. Best wishes from Northern Ireland. 🙂⛳

Excellent video great tips I’ll definitely try them. I would like to see a video on which club to use on the fairways. Like should I use an iron or a - wood or hybrid. Thanks
@USGOLFTVshow2 жыл бұрын
What club to use on the fairway will be determined by the distance you want the ball to travel. The hybrid is a great option for most golfers.

Thank you for the great video. One last question. I am doing just fine with weight shift now, but sometimes I hit the ground before the ball because my arms move quicker than my body. What would be a good drill to improve coordination and prevent the arms from taking control of the swing? Kudos from Brazil.

Its awesome instructions and really helpful .. I am struggling to increase the distance for irons .. was informed that to increase the distance I need to take a hinge in wrists ... But when taken hinge I loose contact with ball .. could you please advise on how to take hinge while hitting the shot .. thanks

question about upper arms position..on the downswing should the upper arms be close to the same position as they were as address

The arms will change angles throughout the swing. We like to see them more vertical on the back so they can shallow on the downswing

How does your straight line swing differ from the square to square swing?
@bradwright972 жыл бұрын
Thanks Todd, I'll practice this as I do top my shots or get very little loft on them.... I have also noticed I very rarely take a divot , the only time I do it's usually is to deep and stops the club! Is taking a divot important and how do I do it correctly? Thank you. Brad Melbourne Australia
@USGOLFTVshow2 жыл бұрын
Brad, thanks for asking. It is not mandatory to take a divot in order to hit good shots as some of the all time greats where more "pickers" than "diggers". Make sure you are getting your weight to the lead foot on the finish. The bottom of the swing tends to follow the weight and you may be staying on the back foot too long.

First off..I love the Vertical Line System…it’s perfect for us “veteran” golfers, and I get it. But for some reason, my game is continually getting worse lately. My biggest issue now is what to do with my hands and wrists at the moment of contact. I’m feeling so completely lost and frustrated right now..can you help get me back on track?
@nickgraham99362 жыл бұрын
Greg, by no means am I a great golfer but I've been through this many times and hopefully this helps. When that starts happening to me, I almost have to just be at peace with whatever happens when you hit the ball. REMEMBER THIS: you KNOW how to hit the ball...I promise you that you do. It's our head that messes everything up. Pick your line, set up to the ball and just swing how your body naturally wants to swing. It will likely be much better. We tend to learn something that works a little and then we always overdo it. Happens all the time. Take your mind out of it and go and swing, remember.. you know how to do it. I hope I'm not over stepping but hopefully that helps 😀😀😀

Greg, you are not alone in this challenge. The game of golf can be fragile for even the best players in the world. When this happens to a student of mine, we focus on tempo. Here is a great video that will provide some help kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmQeWekqbKWfdU

Isn't it true that the hand position changes because of ball position? Should the hands always be in the same place no matter which club you are using? I am from Long Island NY
@johnk.atchley50792 жыл бұрын
With regard to the lead arm move, when you watch a tournament, almost every single pro, some like Justin Thomas more than others, when beginning to address the ball will make a practice move or two at the start of the backswing by making sure the club head moves back outside of the target line or just on it rather than inside of it. This ensures that they do not make that excessive move inside and back behind that you describe as a cause of hitting behind the ball. I have found this can make all the difference between a good swing and contact, and a poor one. Try it at the range. It's largely a mental thing. Because we are so focused on the ball and so eager to swing and hit the ball, it is easy to forget this correct move and rush the start of the swing, bringing the club back on the inside as we turn. Doing the right thing can feel awkward, like you are swinging the club away from your body. But if you turn your torso and hips fully on the backswing and stop, you will see that a swing path that felt like it was going outside the target line actually ends up at the top of the backswing in perfect position on plane. The swing that started inside the target line during the first foot or two will end up, as Todd points out, too far behind and often on too flat a plane. The exception might be if you swing like Jim Furyk but most of us don't.

When is it time to move to the senior tees? Im 66 yrs old and my normal drive is 200-220 yards . Some friends give me a hard time, but I hate hitting hybrids and long irons every time to 380 yard par 4’s. For the most part, if the course is over 6000 yards, I go from the Senior Tees. To me it’s all about keeping the game fun and speeding up play. When do most men move up to the next tee box? By the way I love your videos and I subscribe!
@USGOLFTVshow Жыл бұрын
Jon, this is a great point you make. Thank you! The game is supposed to be fun. My guess is your buddies would not enjoy playing the PGA Tour tees. Play tees that allow you to hit an iron into a par 4 when you hit a good drive. Appreciate you following our content. Hope it is helping your game.

I am having a problem getting my ball up. Doesn't make a difference which club. Being 70 and not as athletic as I use to be. I am hitting on the top half of ball and can't stop it. I went to a 12 Degree driver and still hit it straight line drive. It will roll more than 150 yards. Irons are not as bad but creeps up without warning. I know rolling my hands is probably the culprit. Thinking about instructions at golf course. Too old to get this aggravated at my swing.
