I'm going to try your tips because I'm hitting behind the ball constantly. I'm 88 and don't wind up too easily. I also tend to use my hands more than turning through with my body or shoulders. I'm going to try your method and see what happens because I can't make my approach shots anymore and that's killing my game. Nothing more frustrating than when you're right in front of the green and hit the ball fat by hitting the ground first. Thank you.

Class.. thx Rick.. in one of the "older" videos "rotating around the left side" really changed everything for me... i used to focus on the shaft lean at impact, but ended up with an open clubface at impact push slicing the hell out of it.. now since i "rotate" around my left side i understood how to get to proper impact position... the feedback i use now is: when i hook it, i didnt rotate "quickly" enough into my left.. the next swing mostly is already much better then.. you vids really help me 👍

Rick, iron play used to be by far the worst part of my game. After watching a few of your videos I have all but ditched hybrids and now hit with far more confidence and accuracy with my irons!

This video was a huge help for me. The beginning about staying centered really hit home. Before watching this, my backswing had me coming off the ball. I would feel my weight all over my back foot. Wahla! Staying centered, I now just felt my weight shifting to my back heel. Not the whole back foot. In the past I always heard about pressing the back heel into the ground but could never do it. Now I can. In regards to the towel drill, I tried it in the past and always hit the towel. So frustrating! Not anymore! Your edited piece about keeping the club handle forward and not flipping was good also. I would hold my right hand angle creating lag to hit the ball first and then the ground. I’m making so much better contact now, even with my fairway woods using your advice. Thanks for your help.

Well Rick, after 14 years of using the same old Callaway Driver i’ve finally retired her and brought in my new love......the Cobra F9!! I’ve watched your videos and listened to all you’ve said about it and took the plunge on Saturday. I used it for the first time on Sunday shooting +7 for 16 holes. It wasn’t really until the 9th when i realised just how much yardage i’d been losing with the old Callaway! Thanks Rick for the recommendation!!

Being a beginner, this is exactly what i've been practicing, albeit in the back garden, in an effort to hit the the ball cleaner and more consistent, especially driving the hips through and forward, facing the target, just at impact. And now I'm back on the course, it's working well for me, and these drills will help me maintain that consistency and timing, nice one. Please continue with more coaching tips, or dedicate a particular day to it, like 'Ricks Tip Thursday', or something like that, cheers 👌

Another thing that can help here…was an issue with my son who is learning, he was hitting behind the ball a ton. I had shown him how to turn through the ball, not swaying in backswing, trying to make divot after contacting the ball, etc…like all the stuff you said here. But what helped him was this. He wasn’t getting his hands through the ball in the downswing…his body was rotating faster than his hands were coming through the ball, so he was hitting the ground and also using contacting the ball with a very open face. The open face wasn’t because he had rolled his wrists in the backswing, he knows not to do that. So I got him to work on his timing better and really try to get his hands coming through the hitting zone quicker, so that it was more in sync with the rest of his body. Worked wonders for him almost immediately. Obviously all the things in this video are critical, but this is just another tool you can use if the others aren’t working. Also, you have to be careful because having the hands get too fast in the downswing can then cause pulls/closed clubhead at impact. But everyone visualizes or feels a swing a little differently…especially kids who are just learning. This particular one way of thinking about the swing helped with a problem that had really frustrated my son (and me since none of the other drills seemed to help).

This video has given me a lot to think about. I just spent a couple minutes working on my swing before work and forcing my wrists to get slightly ahead of the club head made my body start pushing up me up onto the ball of my left foot. Lately I have been struggling with chunking everything and I have never been able to get up at the end of my swing. Can't wait for the rain to clear up so I can go to the range and try this again.
@matthoward1234 жыл бұрын
I think this is one of the most confusing concepts to explain to a golfer and this video does a great job of it. Every golfer has heard since they picked up a club "shift your weight back and through". That clearly makes someone think of a swaying motion. It's really difficult to explain a weight shift in a rotational sense. A lot of the traditional golf teaching soundbites are like this, actually encouraging a bad motion.

So glad you added that snip about the hands at impact. This changed my game a few weeks ago and its surprising how many videos about iron strikes neglect to mention this crucial factor. This may help someone else and that was for me another game changer, starting my downswing with my arms. Thats not to say your body moves after the natural motion from your arms but just to start the sequence with the movement of your arms. Admittedly this may not work for everyone but if you had a slice like me it made a huge difference to my swing and strike by ensuring an in to out path.

The third drill to me is the best. That's what I practice most often. When on the golf course i try to keep my vision on the far left of the ball (right handed) of the ball instead of looking at my clubhead. Looking at that spot is where I'm trying to strike it; then low and into the ground. Thank you though Rick. Just watching the third drill repetitively helps me to burn it deeper into the thought process
