Hey Todd, I have been struggling with slicing my driver since getting into golfing about a year ago. I tried several things (grip, ball position, swing path, etc) … all resulting in moderate improvements (but still slicing about 50% of the time). I watched this video and really liked your trick of using the tee to indicate proper lead hand orientation … at address, half way through the backswing, and at the top of the backswing. My problem was at the top of the backswing, exactly as you described it … the tee was pointing to the right when looking down the line (and my wrist was cupped). I change my swing to have the tee pointing towards the sky and my wrist either flat or slightly bowed. I went to the driving range today and tried this (and other changes you recommended) for the first time … and went from a 50% chance of slicing the driver to absolutely no driver slices at all (on about 30 hits). I still have some more work to do, as I was only able to deliver about 80% power due to all of the changes (leading to a very unfamiliar / uncomfortable feeling at address and during my backswing). But, overall, I am extremely happy with these changes, and I anticipate a significant improvement in my driver, fairway wood, and hybrid game. Thanks a bunch … this has been the most helpful KZbin video thus far for improving my golf game!

Hi Tod looking at how you put your hands on the club my question is what your thoughts are with a slightly stronger grip? Your grip seems weak to a neutral grip. have struggled for years fighting a pull. Out to your n swing path
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, it really depends on the player. In general we like a neutral to strong grip for most our students. However we do have some players with a more weak trail hand. Not trying to dodge the question. LOL, just really depends on the player.

David, great question, you are not alone. One key is to have a pre shot routine that involves picking a good target, a deep breath and a positive self reassurance statement. If you have those pieces, you will see better results. 👍

Great video. Txs. I have a question. I am rt. handed but golf left. I continually have a slight hook to the right. I use a neutral grip and close my stance a bit to try and swing out to the left, but still get a slight hook to the right. Any suggestions? Secondly, I get pain in my left hand (bottom hand) up and down the back of my last two fingers (ring & little) down to my wrist. Because I have arthritis in other parts of my body, I think this might be the cause of the pain. Its been suggested to me to, by an instructor, to get a bit bigger grip on my clubs, so my hand does not have to close as much. Any thoughts?

Have one or maybe two clear thoughts that you can put int a phrase that can be repeated. For example, if I am working with someone on their turn our phrase might be "move, turn, stay". The beauty of a phrase is that it is easy to repeat and improves focus. Hope that helps...

@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 2 жыл бұрын
Good question, the key as we loose distance is chipping, lag putting and moving more hybrids in the bag. These three things coincide with being shorter off the tee. If you focus on lag putting and chipping, you will see your scores drop. Make sense?
@rickinjax2330
@rickinjax2330 3 жыл бұрын
I’m confused. You say the lean the upper body back (away from the target), and to put 60% of your weight on the lead foot. I don’t think that gravity will allow that to happen. You can’t put extra weight on the front foot if the center of body mass is leaning towards the back foot.
@rickinjax2330
@rickinjax2330 3 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, if you shifted your hips far enough to the left you could achieve 60%, but the left hip would need to be pretty far left.

Good question, we are only talking a little more weight on the lead side at address. This can be achieved while still having a slight upper body tilt away from the target. Make sense?
