I have OCD, with violent, sexual, blasphemous intrusive thoughts. which led to a period of depersonalisation, in recovery now as result of Exposure Response Prevention therapy (and 20mg of Fluoxetine). Honestly I tried all of those tips but they only thing that worked for me was to embrace the thoughts head on, non resistance by giving them total approval and acceptance which turned off the fight or flight switch in my brain every time a thought popped up, which allowed the thoughts no matter how disturbing to just float in and out with ease and non attachment and allowed me to see the truth that I don't want to hurt anyone, and just because you have dark thoughts doesn't mean you are a dark person.

It was bad for a period of 2 weeks , every night I had a lot of anxiety and I did eventually get to sleep all those nights but really late. Then I started to analyze my dreams with my psychiatrist. I had dreamt about violent tornadoes 3 times over the two weeks and in the dreams I would always be intrigued by the tornadoes. In a couple dreams I left the safety of my house to get close to them outside and then go back in before it got too late. Another dream I was running away from it and took shelter. It passed by right next to me but I was ok. Through talking about it I realized the tornadoes were either my fears or my strong emotions or a combination of both. *sorry I'm really tired now I am going to try to sleep and finish this tomorrow or something

The answer- For anyone reading this, I want to tell you I have suffered from every kind of intrusive thought that you can imagine but let me tell you the solution is much easier than what our mind makes it look like. The simple fact of this world is that thoughts cannot be controlled and our over sensitive brains are now NOT OKAY with the idea of “bad” thoughts. But the idea of them being bad and us pushing them away is what is keeping them alive. So now what do we do? Just observe them. Just simply observe them. Read the book the Power Of Now if you want some clarity regarding the idea of it but its that simple. The tags of good and bad have become so strong in your mind that now you cannot handle certain thoughts. Its really simple. Dont worry. Godspeed

Hey Douglas, my intrusive thoughts are at their peak. I have obsessive compulsive disorder which disrupts my normal functioning to the point where this has become my reality. It hampers my life both ways: I feel like I am wasting time when I do not study, yet, when I do study, I feel like I am wasting my time by not contributing it to my hobbies. I am a trauma survivor who is subjected to uncontrollable flashbacks and intrusive images everyday of her life. I overdosed twice after getting severely abused by my family and losing control of the work I was getting done. Your words made me feel really safe, shall I say - instilled hope? I am so sorry you had to go through that. But here you are, channelising your small victories to us, WHAT a power move dude, what a power move. Bless you

this was really helpful. thank you. although i haven’t been diagnosed with ocd or anxiety disorder yet because my family cannot afford a therapist, i am 100% certain i have it. my intrusive thoughts turn into obsessions that take over my day to day life. i cannot get myself to push them away. this causes panic attacks that i have frequently, once or twice a week. everyday i wake up feeling mentally exhausted. i don’t know what to do anymore. it’s hard for me to go to school without going to the bathroom to calm myself down when i feel a panic attack coming on. i think i have always had some form of ocd, even as a kid (i’m 15 now) i remembered thinking about things a normal kid would never think about. i remember going to church and learning about the devil, and i couldn’t get the thought of going to hell out of my brain. the intrusive thought eventually went away. i always used to freak out if my pillows weren’t a certain way, or if i didn’t get a shower at night i thought the germs would kill me. these are just small examples. i really am struggling with this right now. any help?
