Thank you for this, I usually practice for more than an hour and the cramping on my left hand and the ache on my back doesn't help when I want to practice for a long time.

I can understand that. Try taking a break every 15 to 20 minutes and do some stretches. A break can be just a couple of minutes.

Do you have any tips for injured nails? I do manual labor and I crushed some of my fingers. It only hurt in the moment, but afterwards they didnt really hurt. The problem came with one of my nails on my right hand, which got pretty messed up. It didn’t break, but it’s pretty ugly. It doesn’t hurt, it just feels weird.

As it's your bow hand luckily you don't need much pressure on the bow. Work on a relaxed as possible bow hold.

thanks for this vid - I had to stop practicing just a half hour ago because of pain in the left thumb. I try to concentrate on keeping it from gripping - it just takes time, I guess. My problem is that I find it most natural to play without a shoulder rest, so I have to compromise keeping relaxed with supporting the violin. any tips for that?
@violinlounge
@violinlounge 4 жыл бұрын
When you play without a shoulder rest, you should balance the violin on your shoulder and in your left hand. There are many videos that explain the technique of playing without shoulder rest. Just give it a search and it could take a bit long to learn the right balance and relaxation.

The only tension I suffer really bad from is a "ring shaped" wrist tension. I had this already when I had a shoulder rest still on but nowadays I play without because it's so much more comfortable. But the tension didn't go away somehow. Any idea where such a tension comes from?
@lh3556

I forgot to mentions that it is the left arm :)
@violinlounge
@violinlounge 4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by ring shaped?
@lh3556
@lh3556 4 жыл бұрын
@@violinlounge literally that the tension is located on my wrist only. It goes all around my wrist but not on other parts like forearm or hand. It starts already soon after practicing a piece. During the playing I don't feel it but as soon as I let go and move my hand I feel the tension in my wrist.
@violinlounge
@violinlounge 4 жыл бұрын
@@lh3556 Maybe you're pivoting in a too tensed way or don't have your wrist exactly straight. However, if it hurts very quickly, you mind want to have a professional look at it.

I don't know how these orchestral players , play for hours string players never get a break, it is the same with Irish traditional music , the Irish never stop playing. I only notice my cramps when practising at home, in sessions the music takes over. As they say talent always finds a way. Adam Beanstock.

If you have hand cramps after playing for just an hour your technique is probably bad. Same for your back. Go to a teacher (not online) that has a real career and get advice.
