or you can take a brush and simlpy go over a piece of usual soap with it and cover the bristles with the soap before using masking fluid. Tthe masking fluid won't stick to ypur brush and it can be cleaned easy for the next use

I use fluid soft soap. After using the masking fluid wipe the brush in a cloth and it all comes off, the brush is clean.

I keep a selection of "globbed up" brushes and find them useful for creating random dapple effects with the masking fluid so don't throw them away.

Thanks for the tip. I just ruined a 22euros Isabey Brush while using a gum mask. I thought the mask was water soluble, first time using. I'm often so careful with every step I take in my projects and applying materials, so I'm taking it humorously and letting go.

Thats why you have to buy the 222FM molotow softliner(real brush,not dead after coverd in masking fluid),its very cheap and worth it,plus its a real brush so it has a more comfortable feeling to it rather than silicone brushes,but if you prefer silicone brushes....ITS OK TOO😄

That's sound so great !! I'll definitely buy one ❤️ Without it, the best way I found to use my masking fluid was to cover the bristles of the brush with regular soap, to "coat" them, and then I cleaned them with oil. But it's not as much efficient as your technique, so thanks !

I’ve just found your KZbin channel it’s fantastic! Could you do a recommendation if your favourite watercolour paper and brushes. I am just new to drawing and would love more ideas and fabulous techniques you have picked up. All the very best for your lovely KZbin channel Leigh
@WindyIris7 жыл бұрын
Hi Leigh, thanks for stopping by and I am glad you're enjoying my videos. I like the Windsor and Newton watercolor paper but the watercolor paper pads from Arteza are also good and not very expensive, so useful for a beginner. As for for brushes, to be honest I just grab whatever ones I have on hand. I'm not fussy about them and I buy the variety packs:)

thank you. does soaping up ur brush before the masking fluid really work?
@birgitte80574 жыл бұрын
Yes, dip the brush in fluid soft soap so that all hairs are covered, then wipe it gently in a cloth to get the most soap off. After using the masking fluid just wipe all off in a cloth and the brush is surprisingly clean.

Doesn't masking fluid thin with something? Alcohol, propanol, white spirit, enamel thinner, lacquer thinner? Some kind of thinner must surely do the job if you're quick about it. Once it starts to dry yeah it will surely ruin the brush. I use a similar product for scale modelling and while it definitely ruins my brushes it doesn't ruin them to the degree of the ones shown in this video. It makes them so that they will never be good brushes again, but they will surely still work for applying solutions, or for any less detailed work. They don't end up looking like melted birthday candles at least.
@p_k_bliner70964 жыл бұрын
Or if you use a normal brush just soak it in “white spirit” for an hour then simply wipe it of with a paper towel and water
@anandajaywardanaananda15426 жыл бұрын
What is a masking fluid?😕🤔
@WindyIris6 жыл бұрын
It's a plastic like coating that you can use on paintings to cover up an areas you don't want to get paint or color on. Then when you're finished coloring you take take the masking fluid off and you have the clean areas left underneath:) There are lots of videos on You Tube that explain it better.
