I agree. You really see this once you go from a UTR 9 upward. The players get more advanced and you have to start finding ways to WIN points, and not expecting your opponent to gift you points. I’d say for lower skill levels (UTR under 5) it’s more of a lack of technique, such as a weaker serve or backhand, that holds them back in matches. Players between a UTR 7-9 (intermediate players), have a more all around solid game and then need to start working on their weapons to help them win matches to get them to even higher skills levels! Great video!

Agreed 100%with your comments but you do not have that many players at these levels UTR7-9 compared the people affiliated to a tennis club , in the US, UK or France at least, UTR 7-9 are not really intermediate players but pretty good players , 4.5-5.5 US equivalent, 15/2 to 2/6 in France ,

Top tips, as usual, guys. I'd say being tense is my main problem in matches. During hitting practice I can play loose as Guga Kuerten, but during matches, I play more like a torn curtain.

Thanks for the great tips again and again! I don't play better in practice than in matches. Maybe it's because I'm just too old (67). In practice I experiment and in matches I go for points so my mistakes in practice are far more numerous. I'm still playing in competition.

I play best with my back up against the wall. Holding a big lead is difficult for me. I tend to get complacent and blow it (Either that, or my opponent starts using his brain).

What happens to say is beautiful ! Your technical quality is fantastic and it's a pleasure to see you hitting balls and at the same time giving examples of what to do and what not to do. I live in Portugal and I love it, but I'm really sorry that tennis doesn't have more expression here: more tennis courts and above all more quality coaches like you. Someone who quickly sees what's wrong and at the same time gives the solution to the problem, as I've had the opportunity to see when correcting a student in the blink of an eye. hug from Portugal

great video! luckily I've been slowly realizing technique isn't the most important thing and its not about your style, but its about how you play when it matters, in a match (especially since im not the strongest hitter). Reinforced some important topics for me, thanks!

Intensity on the legs is key especially in the heat during summer time .I do have the tendency to use my slice on both sides during matches and I won few matches but sometimes I do lack intensity not explosive enough and not focusing enough on the ball , but I did made progress since November 2002 from NR to UTR 4,4.5

Great video guys! Really helps for matches. I want to improve my consistency, sometimes I go for the big shots when I don't need to. Would be good to have a video on when to go for the big shots and when to just keep in the rally. I have been watching loads of your videos recently, so I am sure I will find it somewhere. The kick serves video 3 tips was amazing, going to try and improve mine tomorrow.

I can 100% relate to this video, when I was a kid most of the kids there, had inferior strokes and they didn’t even have a full take back on their forehand, but I would lose to a few of them, because I would always mess up my forehand I would overthink it, and I think what really held my forehand back, is that I really want Roger Federers forehand, because I play with a completely straight arm, that was just natural to me, but it was still impossible for me to copy him.

Great video. I'm starting to play better in matches, I do struggle to close them. Anyway, I would love a video on how to hit incoming shots which come with heavy, low slice, both forehand and backhand. I struggle to get those up! Thanks!

I struggle the most with finding the right amount of range on my shots early in the match. It can take up to the first set to find a decent shots and that usually means two times the work to win the match after losing the first set.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 жыл бұрын
How long do you warm up for before the match? I’d look at that firstly
@b.lakeberg74562 жыл бұрын
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I warm up at a minimum for 15 minutes, but I try to aim for 30 minutes as often as possible. I feel loose after dynamic stretches, hit against the wall, some light serving, and then hit with my partner in the different zones. I might need more than 30 minutes. I know pros have a much longer period. I agree longer warm up could help. At times it really feels like a mental block. I hit long and then I overcompensate by hitting the ball too softly. I keep trying and eventually things start to get much better. I feel like I should play better at my level earlier in the match.

I think sometimes for lower level players it's because they're self-conscious about weak areas of technique, especially the serve. Fear of being embarrassed for double-faulting or having to use a soft, pancake or moonball 2nd serve.

Guys, this video is DANGEROUSLY close to suggesting playing as a pusher 😅... Simon is literally moonballing at some point 😂. I have done it in the past, and yes it worked which proves your point , BUT I didn't feel good about the way I looked when I played like that.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 жыл бұрын
A moonballer and a pusher are two very effective ways to maintain high levels of consistency and win matches. You don’t need to play like that all the time, but it’s a great tool to have in the bag
@jamesscholtz95252 жыл бұрын
Great video but u would not want to win every point or every match. No fun. Players should not have that expectation. Match play think target, focus, hit repeat. Hit to large targets and hit to opponents weakness move after hit to bisected expected return. Best to hit to opponents strength first to see if your strength is better. That breaks down will and position. Go to weakness 2nd.
