Thank you for a fairly practical way to think through this. If you imagine your stressed out future self, it becomes more real.

Thank you so much for this video. Till I saw it, i didn't really realise that when my brain is saying " I'll have more focus if i do later so it'll FEEL easier" was literally just part of the cycle. And wow, imagining being that stressed out actually does make me want to not procrastinate. It really is an addiction. And I'm tired of not sleeping night after night. THANK you for your video, I'm losing my mind of this demon, and you just gave me the tools to face it.

Thank you for posting this.. I’m in CBT therapy for my CPTSD due to having a borderline mother and alcoholic angry father… I’m making a lot of head way and no longer feel so empty as I once had. Funny I’m looking better too like my skin is glowing more for example. Anyway, procrastination is one of my major battles for the time being…

Your video has made me realise that the "I'll do it when I feel like doing it" belief, was damaging my life. You helped me realise that there isn't any complicated emotions or feelings or trauma that was making my life worse, procrastination was making my life worse. You also made me realise that no matter what, even if I'm doing the thing I love, I'm still gonna have to face distress. And I think the muscle for facing distress has been greatly weakened. With these 4 comprehensive questions, I aspire to develop the muscle to facing distress or discomfort for the things and people I love. This has changed my life. Thank you.

I tried your advice for a day, and paired it with meditational practices, which was to help with focusing on the present task, and it's very effective mentally. It makes me think "well, of course I should be doing this now". And I've even used this 'technique' to tell myself to come back and re-watch this video. Sincerely, thank you, and I'm so glad you were able to find a way to handle your own procrastination. Edit: I should specify: the reason I'm re-watching is because it's really useful to get a refresher, but also because I never finished the video after the 4th step, and well, that's because y'know.. it worked

Awesome question! The most important thing is to START, TAKE ACTION, and DO, rather than thinking, waiting, and hoping ideas will pop up. So brainstorming a list is a good start. I would challenge yourself to create a list of 20 or 30 ideas, even if they don't seem fully formed or perfect. Just get ideas out of your head and onto paper, as quickly as possible. Then I'd start writing notes for the 2 or 3 that get you the most excited. The key is to sit for a specific amount of time and work and write, even if you're not "feeling it." I have a super old video (aka not my best quality) that talks about this specific idea in more detail. I'll link it below. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching and commenting! drallisonanswers.com/productivity/getting-started-goals/

Why ya all think more views equals. More success haven't you heard high cpc and cpm I am sure Dr alisson earns over 1 k USD from her KZbin alone each month
@DrAllisonAnswers5 жыл бұрын
Sam, I appreciate that SO much; I'm so glad my videos and content resonate with you. That is exactly why I do what I do! And I actually have a theory about why my channel isn't growing faster. I talked about this in a previous video, and I'll link it below. I think you'll enjoy it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaCtZ5WQZq52bqc&feature=emb_title And in terms of your offer to help my channel grow, the best and most organic way to help is to SHARE my content. If you like it, share it, tell people about it, and let people know WHY you like it. I'm not an expert in analytics, but I think people being genuine about what they love makes a difference. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
@DrAllisonAnswers5 жыл бұрын
Liquid Ocelot, I agree that it's not all about the views. If it were, I would've quit a long time ago lol. I make content because I genuinely believe it can make a difference. That being said, I definitely do NOT make over 1K on KZbin. But it's a goal! :) Thanks again for watching and commenting! I seriously appreciate it!
@jasonmiller10763 жыл бұрын
But what if the answer is neutral to all of those questions? A personal goal that is entirely optional and has no deadline, etc
@MJ-sy4vo4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for sharing this, I tried this today and it did help. I've used several different methods previously, including the 5-second rule which used to work pretty well for me, but nowadays even that's not proving to be very effective. After trying this, I also set up a short timer (~10 min) for the task I wanted to work on, just to be able to keep myself at it for some time. I did go on for about ~15 min or so. :) I do have one question for you. While contemplating over all four of those questions does help, is there a way to make this easier for ourselves by not going through the list of all four questions even for something short-term such as "doing the laundry"? Or maybe I guess the more we practice this, it's going to get easier for us to find that insight which arrives after we finish thinking about all four of those points?
@blackcatstho86663 жыл бұрын
These are good questions but it doesn't address how to actually make yourself do the thing 😩 If I knew how to do the thing, I wouldn't be procrastinating. There's a huge disconnect between what my body does and what I tell it to do. I guess this is just a depression issue but I've been struggling with this for 15+ years and I'm so tired of it but I can't find anything to help. If I can't solve the depression then how do I fix the procrastination 😩 maybe one day I'll figure it out
@vitalyimikosovskyi25923 жыл бұрын
Answering all this questions may help you to realize, that there are no benefits to delay task, and that may help you to start working on it. Also what really helped me is next thing. We usually think that we need motivation and then comes action. But that not a case. Motivation comes after action. I'm sure everyone has this experience when you putting off some task, and it is almost painful to think about starting it, it is so hard that you just want to distract yourself by any means, but when you finally start working, it becomes easier and easier, and you may even enjoy working. So whenever you need to work, remember that starting a task is the hardest part, and start by something small. Negotiate with yourself. Okay, I have to wash dishes, but I don't want to. Maybe I can wash one plate? Nah, too much. Maybe I can then just gather all dishes in one place. Okay, that's fine. So you go and do that small task. And it will bring you motivation to do next one.

so hot and pretty, and so smart :) Thanks for your video! I have been in a terrible rutt of procrasitnation and wasted many days on tasks I should be doing easily. I have not come across your methods before and I will start trying them x0x
@Chevalier_de_Pas3 жыл бұрын
Many of these tricks are not very practical. If one procrastinates to open a book and start reading one will also procrastinate to write questions and answering them (especially answering what are the negative experiences; one has to think before answering that, and it is hard and scary). It's like meditating before studying or making breathing exercises before studying, or doing the 5 second rule before studying, or even saying to yourself that once you start it will be easier: eventually you will procrastinate on the technique itself. Our brain is very tricky. Up to this day nothing has ever worked. I'm 27 and I'm wasting my life...
@WaiYan-sp5zb3 жыл бұрын
I've actually ran into the same problem as you have. However, meditation did end up working for me in the past, and I use it to solve the whole 'the technique also feels distressful' problem. It helps me bring my intentions into actions. I think these 4 techniques are extremely useful by themselves, but they may not work for you if you have another problem getting in your way, like figuring out how to actually do your things. So, perhaps you should focus on that area first? Just my 2 cents, hopefully it might help you. All the best
