I love this author Tim Pychyl he had a great podcast I listened to like 10 yrs ago that helped me so much. I recognize all the terminology. He is brilliantly evidenced based. As I’ve gotten older and wiser since then, I wonder if he talks in the book about knowing ourselves, and getting in tune with our truest desires and creating a vision. Most of my procrastination problems have subsided when I’ve understood what actions aligns with my most authentic self. And visualizing exactly what my future self wants … NOT what I’ve been brainwashed I SHOULD do. Nietzsche’s concept of getting out of slave morality and understanding Will to Power was the missing piece for me to overcome procrastination

The fallacy of postponing tasks for the future self to have better motives to do them is the key insight here. When the blessings of having clear tasks towards a purpose is acquired, procrastinating on those tasks is the worst thing that happens to most people. LEARN & WOOP LEARN to regulate our emotional state when fearful to work on a task: Labelling the emotion that leads to procrastination Exhaling slower than we inhale to counter amygdala Accepting the negative emotion to calm amygdala Releasing muscle tension to relaxe amygdala Noticing where the urge is coming from The WOOP method: Wish - I wish to… Outcome - The benefit outcome is… Obstacle - I won’t do it if… Plan - I will do it if (The Plan)… Thanks man 👍

Love the summary as usual with your crisp explanation and graphics. Being a victim of procrastination for a while now, this captivated me enough to get the book and read through it fully now. Thanks!

thank you, this was very useful! I always have a tendency to address time management and my systems more than my emotional state, and it's good to know that it's important and I should address it.

Simply have a compelling ( that emotionally pull you ) in your head. have enough sleep. sport ( to remove inflammation to be less tired. ) So it is for long enough (sleep and sport) so that your brain's serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline are back to normal. Can also have medical treatment of magnesium+B6 Practice Yoga too and meditation. With all that the hardware will be okay after one month maximum of 2 months. After that, it will be a psychological thing. (Maxwell Maltz Psychocybernetic will explain the rest) It's quite a powerful ability to visualize what you want and feel motivated just by seeing that in your head. -- It works. For me.

I have social anxiety and extreme self-consciousness. This means I avoid the tasks that involve interacting with strangers. If I have to go to the post office or store I am overcome with paralyzing anxiety. Is there a video that addresses this particular hurdle?

some thoughts over the years with this , approaches can be dialing it in situationally with frequent exposure bit by bit so brain adapts to it, (e.g elevator fear , stepping to it , pushing button, looking inside etc progression) Or if general then seeing it as an overall extreme trying to find ways to lower it's overall intensity , taking it down a couple notches to something more functional with testing experiments, Ideas like stopping caffeine for a few weeks, eating enough calories and carbs day to day so brain isn't in scarcity mode, trying a form of exercise 3 days a week for a month for brain changes, ensuring body has enough iron not deficient, eliminating or limiting influences in excess that drain you, resting enough and doing enough balance, trying a new form of meditation for 10 minutes for a week & see if have more settledness , try eliminating a food (e.g vegetables that increase acetylcholine, chocolate that has stimulants) or adding another (ray peat forum), nourish brain with empowering solutions words & information often , finding ways to act on expansive ideas for positive focuses etc With those more broad attempts some possibly helpful strategies in the moment: . Going for a walk somewhere else for 1 or 2 minutes first, letting system relax into new environment a bit again . Willingly allowing anxiety for a few minutes to make something happen . Questioning the anxious state on paper , to see if clarifies to something more manageable and see ways u can influence things, "what's the most likely scenario?" what do I want to happen? what can I do? how can I make it more tolerable? or interesting? . Setting an intention , or curiosity. To see if ___ / I intend to ____ gives it some secondary focus or involvement , adds a game to it, or attempts to create extra good from it . Use of music or short cold showers or specific videos for temporary shift out of conservation mentality Humans aren't supposed to have those extremes as a usual default otherwise we wouldnt function well, so there must be things to become a good balance with the right approaches / adjustments It's tough tho when it's at an extreme it can be overwhelming and adds an extra weight to basic things. But those are some things might be worthwhile I can think of Anthony Robbins videos & book "awaken the giant within" chapters on questions might be worth reading or listening to
