Guys please take his word and take action on implementing this advice. After 6 years of achieving subpar results, I took some time to let go of everything I knew and build a system based only on fundamentals truths. Everything you said has been what I boiled down to the essentials. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

@-gohzy6134 Жыл бұрын
I absolutely advocate this advice as well. Been trying to incorporate notion and all but these are all secondary tips built upon simple tips. Simplicity has always worked for me as a distinguished student and now an army servicemen. The key is to keep the system as adaptable and simple because they take the least effort to organise your life. The inverted pyramid priority system, focus without distractions, high intensity workouts have been the 20% that produced 80% of my achievements thus far
@r0bo11 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes I find that I've been truth-hopping throughout my life and have conceded that nothing is certain, and ultimately the chaos is our adaption to life itself. It seems like the universe is a reaction engine to events that occur in your life and learning is essentially a trigger as a change agent. We delicately balance ourselves within the confines of observation and creation through a mechanism of energy itself; which in turn is the feedback loop of the universe. I think therefore, ones maintenance and dedication to health is the most fundamental and self evident truth that supersedes and pre-empts all other truths that gives rise to balance, harmony and unity.

As someone with unmedicated ADHD, I have tried probably 100 different productivity methods, or at least I've tried to understand that many. This is the FIRST METHOD that I have not only been able to understand, but that I feel able to actually implement in my life. You are so correct that other methods are just so overwhelming, I can't even get to the point of even TRYING them to see if they work or not. I watched this video probably 5 or 6 times or more while I took my own notes, until I felt like I understood it enough to explain to someone else. I am especially grateful for you explaining the Pareto Principle and the danger of "busy work" that feels productive but really isn't. That is one of my BIGGEST issues. Also I love taking breaks that turn into doom-scrolling. Now I am ready for my classes/work to begin on Monday. (: THANK YOU SO MUCH! My ultimate goal is CRNA school after I finish my RN and work in the ICU, and now I actually feel like I can really do it, and it's not just a crazy idea lol.

I can tell you what has worked for me, after such many years: It will be hard and uncomfortable, this won't change, the start is the hardest thing, after starting, going on is easy, just don't get distracted after you've started work; Make it as simple as possible: Write down the most important task to do, only focus on this, forget everything else, when you are done, write down the next most important task, do the same until work is done, ADHD makes you procrastinate because of fear, this takes the fear away, the biggest opponent is the start each day, but it will get easier each day, because your brain will get used to do it

Love the inverted pyramid my friend! I've been using that for quite some time and found it to be massive effect in allowing myself space to get the most important thing done first. I always use the question "If I was only allowed to focus on ONE thing today.... what would that be?" That becomes my first task! Something I would add... figure out ALL of your 3 - 2 -1's the night before... get organised so you can rest easy knowing that the next day is scheduled and ready to go.... no thinking about what to do first, second or third! Also put it in your diary... make appointments with yourself to complete everything in your pyramid ( just as you would making a doctors appointment! ) it's that important that we need to schedule it as "important work!" I've only just found you.... I love your work... You've earnt a new sub for sure. Thank you my friend!

Awesome content. I suggest you not to decide what to do when you want to start your work. Decide it the night before, when you go to bed, and write it down . This way you don't even distract yourself to decide what to do. You just follow the list on which it's pretty clear what is the most important thing and what must be done after that.

Doing the task that you least want to do is something I learned at school and it's obvious when you look back on it. Once you've climbed the mountain by doing the toughest first, it's all downhill to easy street from then on. It's even better, because when the inevitable stutter comes halfway through the monster first trial, you realise that you've broken the back of it and it's only going to get easier, better and more fun every minute henceforth.

The way I work is very similar to you; the way I choose “important” tasks is to go with whatever is most limiting. If you learn systems theory, it is the elimination of limits that creates growth, and that is what I’m always intending to achieve: identify and eliminate the limits to growth.
@Kramlets Жыл бұрын
Ask yourself, “What is most limiting?” That is what you should be working on, whether that be getting up in the morning, preparing food, exercising, etc.
@spoonfedstudy Жыл бұрын
That’s a great connection! Didn’t think of it that way but you are right. Getting rid of bottlenecks is key
@MichaelDrowley11 ай бұрын
Can you define for me what you mean by “most limiting?”
@zenosgrasshopper7 күн бұрын
1. Systems are Interconnected: Systems (like a business, your life, or your daily schedule) are made up of interconnected parts. These parts work together, but their performance is often limited by a single weak point. 2. The Bottleneck Principle: The performance of the entire system is determined by its weakest point (or constraint). For example, in a factory, the slowest machine limits the production rate, no matter how fast the other machines operate. 3. Eliminating Limits Drives Growth: To improve the system as a whole, you must identify and address the limiting factor. Once the bottleneck is resolved, the system can operate at a higher capacity, and a new constraint might emerge, which you'll tackle next.

This is good advice, I think. Especially the simple thing of taking a step back and reflecting over the best way of doing something instead of just getting caught in the doing without thinking. This kind of meta analysis of yourself is very helpful. One comment about the Pareto principle though. It is true that it says that most of your results comes from a small percentage of your efforts. But it is seldom easy to know what will lead to good results beforehand, it is more of a principle when you look back and analyze your efforts. But the main idea to analyze what you could have done better is still good, of course. To think about which 20% of your efforts was the most productive and why is still very valuable.

Research suggests that we can do visual tasks with audio in the background without having a significant dip in performance, however that if that audio is in the form of spoken words there is distraction. Thus listening to instrumental music may not create distraction, and may instead enhance focus on the visual task at hand. As an individual your results may vary, and if you choose different types of music, again your results may vary.

This is so good and helpful. Watched this video already a couple of times and will do again as a reminder …. There is so much value here. Thank you 😊

I like the core idea of this being simplicity. I feel like a lot of people accidentally end up focusing more on the systems rather than the work that those systems should be assisting.

This is exactly the approach i use in my Agile Teams and my Process Quality Projects. Also i add the efforts points not the timing , but the effort i put to the specific tasks..

How did you schedule the inverted pyramid while in school or residency - especially if you have a morning class/meeting/huddle/rounds? Would attending class be the most important thing for that day? And would it change risky? As a student and part-time worker with a schedule that varies daily, it’s not always feasible to jump into something for a 90-180 min block (I have friends who wake up super early, like 4:30am early, to study but that doesn’t work for me). Curious to hear anything’s thoughts!

This is something I also struggle with with a meeting-heavy schedule. I try to focus on my main task in between the meetings, but constantly context-switching makes it ineffective. I try to block out time but it's so easy to fall into the busy work/ fake productivity that he mentions. Finding those uninterrupted blocks is like gold dust! And when you do find them, I'm often exhausted from the meetings 😅

Excellent. I'm an alumni of Wesleyan, Stanford and Harvard. I found this extremely valuable, for me and anyone who is serious about being effective and useful to myself and the world.

Love this idea and looking forward to figuring out how to implement it! Right now I'm thinking "I don't know if I even have six hours hours (3+2+1) to devote to my passions ... let alone the four hours you spoke of in a previous YT Short!" When I get up, the first thing I usually do is get ready for work, go to work, do the job, and then come home... But maybe I can find a way to still follow these ideas like guidelines, and keep to the spirit of the idea, if not the letter.

Yah exactly! Just follow the spirit of it! Doesn’t have to be exact :)

Whew. Gold. But it must be mined, implemented. AND the man gives the method to do it! Thank you!

Hey, thanks for a great video. I was wondering if you are considering making a follow up to dive deeper into strategy 2 - how do you actually do the prioritizing and leveraging to make the most out of your time? Would really hope to see more.

I love this a lot, but I also love digital planning because I still am attached to my iPad for work and new changes. I love the explanations through the 3-2-1 rule, though.....a lot. Productivity through feelings was w great one too

Could you share what thought process you have when deciding what to prioritize during your work blocks? Thank you for the video, concise and clear. I feel like jumping up and getting to work!
@spoonfedstudy Жыл бұрын
Love it Stephanie! It’s going to be different for everyone but I like to prioritize based on difficulty (how much of my brain is this going to use?), how important is this going to be for my goals, how urgent is it (is there a hard deadline, etc). So I do the most difficult stuff first when my brain is at its peak and reserve the less-taxing stuff later. Basically the less I want to do something and the more likely it’s going to be left behind, the more likely I’ll make sure to tackle it first. I have another video planned to talk more about this prioritization concept so stay tuned!

This is insanely the best productivity system ever I personally have listened to others and tried out stuff but this... This is real This can only be effective by implementations not just by watching them apply this system and I guarantee 100% success 🎉 Thks for the video ❤ I really love it ❤
