Clothing noise and fabric rustle can be a real pain when hiding a lavalier microphone. Thankfully there are tools that can help to reduce this noise.

In this video, Caleb demonstrates how you can use The Lav Concealer, The Invisible Lav Covers - Fur Outdoor, The Invisible Lav Covers - Moleskin, and The Cable Saver to reduce any unwanted clothing and cable noise from your lavalier mic.
1:19 - THE CABLE SAVER
The Cable Saver is made from silicone that you can wrap your lav microphone cable around which adds strain relief and removes cable noise from your lav mic at the same time.
2:28 - THE LAV CONCEALER
The Lav Concealer is a rubber mount that is moulded to the specific contours of its dedicated lav microphone. It also comes with metal fabric guards that lift clothing away from the lavalier microphones capsule. These two rubber and metal materials used in tandem help to disperse any friction noise and other vibrations before it reaches the lavalier mic's capsule.

Hey guys, did you fully cover the top of the lav when using the moleskin? I would imagine that would dampen the audio a bit?

Hi there, the metal fabric guard on the front of The Lav Concealer helps to create a space around the end of the microphone's capsule. This helps to maintain the natural frequency response of the microphone. The moleskin itself is also a super thin material so that it's acoustically transparent. Together, these avoid dampening the audio and help capture the highest quality audio possible. Hope this helps!

I have a Tascam TM-10L (DR-10L) and LAV CONCEALER FOR SENNHEISER ME 2 version hasnt work very well. Very noisy under a shirt. What you offer or give advice for me to get better result?

This is because some of the noise could be from friction on the microphones cable, as well as points of contact between the shirt and the person's skin. I'm still getting cloth noise,, it seems like I get vibrations from the concealer that transfer to the mic. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Hi Sindre, are you using the metalwork with your Lav Concealer? The two different materials should absorb any vibrations on the capsule. This, combined with The Cable Saver and Invisible Lav Covers - Fur Outdoor as demonstrated in the video, should help to tackle other noise. Absolutely Roberto! The key is using your experience and ears to determine which are the best tools for the challenge in front of you. The fur works great on top of The Lav Concealer for wind noise, but also for clothing noise reduction. 😊

Would using the Cable Saver 5cm from the mic or even closer be a bad idea?

When installing, it's best to start with The Cable Saver 15-20cm away from the mics capsule to allow you to wrap the Lav Mic cable around The Cable Saver enough times. Once it's installed, you can try to move The Cable Saver closer to the microphone's capsule, but we wouldn't necessarily recommend it as increasing the tension on the cable right next to the mic's capsule could decrease your cable's lifespan. Give it a try and let us know how you get on 💚

How many times can you wrap a Sanken COS-11? It's cable is thicker and I find I can barely wrap it around 2 times before putting it through the 2nd hole.

You should be able to wrap the COS-11 around The Cable Saver at least 3 times. Don't worry, the cable can handle a few twists as it's a relatively heavy-duty cable. We just don't recommend using The Cable Saver with a Countryman B6 or Sennheiser MKE 1 as the cable's are very delicate and the internal wires could potentially break when any kind of tension is applied to them. @@khancentrated yes, the MKE2 is fine to use with The Cable Saver, we've used it on the MKE2 with no issues! The Lav Concealer with the metal fabric guard attached at the front will be the best option all-round for mounting and clothing noise reduction, however, to go the extra step further, we recommend using The Lav Concealer in tandem with The Invisible Lav Covers. The Fur Outdoor variation will provide maximum protection against clothing noise, however the moleskin will also do a great job if you want something lower profile. I hope this helps!

I went to b and h to show them and they were shocked it didn’t work as well - they said it should work but my cable was thicker than the mke2 they were using. I’m wondering if the mke2 was updated recently because it’s almost impossible to wrap even once around and I don’t want to break the mic

Why not a slip loop instead of the shock absorber?

While a loop is great for strain relief, it does minimal for decoupling. The little that it does do is also dramatically eliminated the tighter the loop gets. You kind of get a two for on strain relief and decoupling with this product but I’m not a fan of the amount of bulk they add when dealing with sheer or fitted wardrobe and costumes.

Chest hair does make a lot of noise, however, we found that if you mount your microphone with The Invisible Lav Covers - Fur Outdoor facing the chest hair, it helps to reduce the scratching of the hair on the microphone's capsule. Give it a try and let us know how you get on! 💚

@@audiorolling The Fur Outdoor Invisible Lav Cover is mainly used to protect the Lav mic against wind noise when using the Lav mics outdoors. As this Lav is being used indoors that extra wind protection over the mics capsule was not necessary and a Moleskin Invisible Lav Cover was used instead. The Fur Outdoor was simply used to create space between the back of the button and the skin to prevent any friction noise from the button. Hope this clears things up ☺️
