I use BBI 99% of the time for the lavs, the wind protection is great! I had to hide 2 lavs in the visors of a convertible, they were driving around 50MPH and it held it's own, the stickies stick to anything that's clean and the concealer is a blessing.

I’ve never tried their wind protection stuff, but the lav concealer is great. I’m still quite early in my career, still building my kit, so my lavs at the moment are just the rubbish ME2-ii that come with G4s. They’re.. usable, sound okay-ish for the low budget commercial and event coverage type stuff I work on (although I am buying a couple cos11 asap) - but the giant size of the capsule makes it so difficult to hide, and it’s diameter means it doesn’t get enough surface area to reliably stick well in most cases, and they obviously don’t fit in Ursa foamies. I normally just borrow a couple of cos11s or MKE2s from a friend when I can, but now the lav concealers make my own lavs sooooo much easier to work with until I can upgrade. And the tape is brilliant, so far I’ve found it stickier than Rycote stickies, and obviously perfect shape for the lav concealer - but the boxed roll of tape they come in is rubbish. The cardboard box is flimsy, and quite often the squares come off a little too easily and can get stuck to the box at the opening, and just in general it feels much clumsier and fiddly than the sheets of Rycote stickies. I dunno, it’s maybe nitpicking, but it’s just annoying, considering how good the lav concealers themselves are.

I agree about the box of 120 stickies. Normally such boxes go into drawer or another container so you're not looking to store these in the box they come in. To your point though, it is easier to manage in strips of a few than a roll.

Echoing what others have said, the Bubblebee mounts are awesome but the precut adhesives don’t perform very well. For COS11 I like Topstick and for DPA 6060/61 I like Superstick (both more or less perfect dimensions for these concealers).

Is that the real purpose for the cable saver? I use it to remove/dampen rustling noise from the cable. Works great for that.

It does indeed. Personally, I find it to be more of a hassle when putting on an ankle strap.

The stickers that you took out of that little combo box @9:05, I do not feel comfortable using those stickers. That narrow bridge part of the sticker, just above the little window, the thin/narrow bridge, it does not stick well because of the very small contact surface. That narrow bridge, more often then not, being made out of a thin material that does not hold its shape (like thicker stickers do); with time it just ends up folding in on itself, and sticks to actual self. Which gradually becomes worse and worse as the body moves, and that bridge opens the passage for the wind to start blowing in right where the tip of the Cos11 is located. At times, because I was stuck with what I had on me at the moment; I had no choice but to apply two stickers one over another, but it did not help much. Same problem repeating, sticker folding on itself. I also tried rotating one sticker 180* and matching the window opening with the other sticker to make a lot more contact surface, and it turned out to be working better. But, the whole process just takes too much time fiddling with the stickers, and if I don't stick the two stickers together perfectly in the first try, I have to throw both away and start all over. And when I'm working on an actor who just wont be still when I am doing the sticking, the whole process becomes even harder to pull off. I am not impressed with the design of those stickers. Sticker material should be thicker so it does not bend/fold as easily and ends up sticking to itself. If I had to pick the most annoying and most unreliable lavalier sticker, this one would definitely end up in the top five. Love your videos by the way, great place to learn useful stuff.

Thank you Alis. I've not had your same experience. If I try reusing an original or moleskin it may present challenges the second time but not too much to manage. I understand the quickness factor and if you don't have time to add another piece of tape to strain relief, it can pull out of whack if tugged.

@@SoundSpeeds If the clothes material is thick and does not bend too much, like cotton button up shirt, the sticker tends to work somewhat better. But when you try sticking it on a female dress or a shirt made out of really thin/lite material, that is almost transparent, and somehow stubbornly resistant to adhesives, the sticker becomes unreliable really fast. I basically had to run the wire behind the back and over the shoulder to stop the mic from repeatedly falling down and ending up in the belly button area. But the worse part was the sticker folding in and sticking to itself repeatedly, which caused a major waste of time when trying to reset the lav and fur back to ready-to-apply mode. Cheers.

this is not how you band the concealer to get the mic in. Go 90 degrees

Going sideways allows it to peak out of the seam but I like the way the cable falls better upright. If the material is thicker, I'll go sideways every time but if it's thinner, I usually like the sound better upright.
