I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one, I'm wasting days trying to get control. I fixed my file directory and onedrive again changed everything around, I no longer have onedrive showing in my list of installed apps, but when I do a search of THIS COMPUTER 79 more OneDrive files are still on this laptop. I'm afraid to just delete them for fear it will mess up something else. I'm so sick of Microsoft! We should file a class action lawsuit for all this wasted time and wages- I shold be working and bringing in money instead of messing with this nightmare all day! And if you lease MS Office- will it just reinstal OneDrive during one of it's forced updates???

The idea of Onedrive cloud syncing backups is nice in all but problem is there should be a choice when you set up for the first time or a new user. Most importantly I wouldn't hate it so much if it didn't MESS up all the directories.

A longstanding problem with OneDrive is that turning it off automatically deletes all the local copies of files. This wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that your desktop shortcuts get synced to OneDrive for some reason. Even if you restore the shortcuts, you've still lost all the work you've put into organizing them. Some people have hundreds of shortcuts all meticulously placed in the right spots on their desktop

I just wanted onedrive to stop being the default save file option. It used to not be the default but changed after a windows update, and so because of muscle memory and habit I kept saving everything to the wrong spots in onedrive which was then a pain in the ass to retrieve. Was pissing me off something fierce! You would not believe how long it took me to find this video with every other search result giving me instructions on something completely unrelated or in one case a microsoft help/faq forum with a random user telling people to edit their friggin registries to get rid of it and a microsoft employee themselves saying it wasn't possible! If you want an indication into just how insidious Onedrive is, it does not allow you to enter its settings unless it's currently -syncing- stealing your files.

I've decided to start working out of an external hardrive. This is ridiculous. I didn't even know OneDrive was doing this until I deleted something and got a prompt asking if I wanted it deleted from Onedrive as well? Very suspect. Why not give people a choice? Microsoft is literally removing choice. But I'm supposed to believe there's no insidious motivation behind this. Don't think so Microsoft. Eff that.

Sadly you can only do that when you have disabled it from going to sync any of your files from Settings>Account option. I did it and then unlinked my account. Boom onedrive is gone. Also make sure that you disable any onedrive popups from windows registry editor and uninstall this app by going to installed apps from windows settings. You are done with this. Note that you need to cut the synced files in onedrive to different location than where onedrive does its syncing. Delete all files from onedrive then do the account and unlink thing. Your job is completely done.

I’ve accidentally clicked on “autosave” while working on Word and now, for some reason, all of my files are being synced with OneDrive. This made my disk usage go up to 100% and my PC was running slow so I uninstalled OneDrive but my pc is still running slow. Does anyone have any idea of what I can do? I’m kinda desperate here.

Primary issue with onedrive for me was the lack of storage space. I love modding games as it makes it way more interesting to play them, the problematic thing is that since everything I downloaded automatically went to onedrive's cloud it filled up the storage space massively. 5gb just isn't at all enough and spending money on onedrive didn't seem worth, so I moved everything over to mega's cloud service, which gives 20gb of storage space free. Onedrive can go die for all I care

I didn’t even sign up to one drive. I’m so frustrated that my Sims4 game only saves everything to the OneDrive documents folder even when I delete it. I don’t have onedrive even running. Dude I'm literally going through the same thing I just spent five entire days working 10 hours a day trying to recover and reinstall and fix all of the s*** that one drive ruined and about 20 minutes after I finish doing everything my computer just started to switch all the settings back and steal all my shit. A copied everything five different times made five different versions of desktop.. every time I try to fix it now it says I don't have access or permission to open these folders.... OneDrive just created 18 gigabytes worth of data and then restricted me from it on my own computer. This is bullshit!!!! It's not us. It's Microsoft. We didn't sign up for this shit and we don't want it. I literally was seconds away from destroying my computer and destroying my entire music studio.. My old computer crashed and I HAD TO buy windows 11 there was extra charges to get 10. 10 years of onenote files are gone, just the files that I experimentally saved to onedrive are still there. Paid geeksquad to find them but no help. It's really creepy that someone from another country is on my computer remotely looking at everything I have. I got so worried about my bank account I ended the session. This is not freedom and it's all so creepy.

One drive cost me money and restricts what I can access. I finished my homework, saved to OneDrive. But when I needed to access the file for email, I could not because it "was not implimented" So I saved to my flash drive and then sent from my flash folder without a problem. The file will be labeled in the OneDrive folder but will show a circular arrow, meaning it is pending

No It Did Not Work I have not setup a OneDrive but everything is going to OneDrive when I save any documents. I have to change the save file to PC then to desk top then to documents to dump OneDrive junk I can not get rid of OneDrive even though I cut it from APS and not set OneDrive up and cut it from start up. OneDrive is like a VIRUS!!! OneDrive shows its ugly head all the time. Even trying to delete all files from OneDrvie delets all the files on my PC OneDrive is a VIRUS!!!!

OneDrive has been a good program for me in the past, as I like to access certain documents between my desktop and my phone. But I just set up a new PC and I'm reinstalling everything, I'm a gamer with emphasis on mods. Mods that take up more space than the free version of OneDrive can accommodate. I'm not about to drop money to expand my storage space when I already spent good money to build my own PC.

Despite growing up in the pre-computer era (I was 40 years old when I touched a computer for the first time), I can always find solutions to issues such as the ones in your video. But you are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too fast when demonstrating how to fix the issues. I timed your first solution and found that it ran from 1:33 to 1:54 - 21 seconds. To follow your instructions, I have to; Start the video Stop the video. Write the first step down. Restart the video. Stop the video. Write the second step down. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat……… Do you see the picture? Your simple explanation has become a very drawn-out, tedious task. Please take a bit more time to explain the steps, and I will then be able to follow your instructions without the Start, Stop, Start process, and I will be your Number One Fan.

I have tried all you have mentioned and, I either get options to manage account, but cant click on them as they are greyed out, or, save as, and don't get the option to save this pc, or go to the icon at the bottom right, right click, get settings, them am told Im not signed into the account.?? any other suggestions? this is crazy. OneDrive is my bane of exsistence, I hate it. How it deletes local files if you didn't set up everything up beforehand, and that if you play, your documents folder gets flooded, and OneDrive sync those files which to me is not needed at all and takes up a lot of space for the OneDrive. Despise it.

The best way to deal with this problem, BEFORE you put any files on your windows 11 computer, is to go into control panel and UNINSTALL OneDrive. Problem solved.

this forced one drive storage from a clean install has caused me to loose thousands of photos. Who in their right mind would allow something like this from windows. Its one thing to have a BACKUP on onedrive its another thing to prevent local storage. This was needlessly complicated and stupid. I have a 1tb SSD in my laptop and 5GB on my cloud. There are going to be several games installed where many files go into the documents folder. There's no way in hell I'm going to have those files needlessly syncing elsewhere.
