I have a Samoyed, 1 year + 10 months, rather than an Australian Shepherd. But they are also known as a dog that barks a lot. I know I give him plenty of exercise. And every morning, after our 1 or 2 hour walk, he gets to play with a neighbour's dog for an hour, and boy, they chase each other, wrestle with each other and more. The way they interact and the great exercise they get from it is more than I could ever give my dog by just walking. I know from your video that I need to restructure my relationship with my dog and will check that out next (it would be great if you had a link to that topic, btw). Here's the thing: my dog has played in other dogs' yards and is mostly quiet. But with this particular dog, the other dog is quiet but my dog barks incessantly! I and the other dog owner are working on it. She is a more experienced dog owner than I am (this is my 1st dog, as an adult), and with my permission, she corrects him when he barks and he listens to her. We will switch roles in a few days so I correct him firmly when he barks. (I am now the calm, assertive goalie who prevents them from getting into the back porch).

Hi there, I'm one of those neighbors you mentioned at the beginning of this video. I have tried speaking with the owner, but he just shrugged his shoulders and said, “yeah, I know, sorry.” I spent $100 dollars on a Dog Silencer Max device. The device actually worked on the shepherd, but the Australian sheep dog just barks right through the device. I've contacted animal control, but have been told unless the dog is barking between 10pm and 6am there's nothing they can do. I'm at my wits end. I get that its not the dogs fault, he or she's just doing what is natural for them. I'm more pissed off with the owner. I think a big part of the problem is they don't exercise the dog. They just put it in the backyard all day and wear headphones. I don't know what to do anymore. Hell, I can't even use my own backyard anymore.

I have a Australian Cattle dog. While we live out in the country, we lived in the city when he went to a "professional" trainer. We need him to stop barking excessively here in the countryside. He was trained with pain, I hated putting the collar on him in the city, but without it he would not listen. Without the e-collar (the trainer used max power on the dog) he does not listen. The commands he was supposed to learn were recall, stop(stop moving), stay, place, and heel which all he has to do. The trainer taught him a bunch of stuff he didn't need like sit, down, roll over, kiss, ball ball(he has never really liked fetch, but pain motivation taught him to do it anyway). He is 12 years old now, I want him to listen so he doesn't run into a snake or skunk. Would this work with him? We have two German Shepherds that he lives with (both younger and they don't bark excessively), both have e-collars, but we trained them, the collar is for when they are out of earshot and recall only. He has an acre to run free on and the shepherds play with him until he is tired and comes to flop ready to go inside with everyone. He doesn't listen without the e-collar, which we have not used since we moved out into the countryside. He learned the boundaries of the yard after about 4 months, I had to use the e-collar on a low setting, he will ignore that about 90% of the time. He has gotten better about recall, that took almost 2 years without the collar and lots of affection and treats. No treat, no recall. Affection he can get when he wants it, he's my little "old man" as he is, besides the cat, the oldest dog in the pack. He is also the lowest on the totem pole with the pack, because he doesn't want to be more. The girls, shepherds are both girls, will bark 1-2 times then show where and what they were barking for. The youngest is getting remedial obedience, she is 2 years old. Working towards service dog over the next 6 months for my seizures. The older girl at 5 years old has already gotten service dog training and is doing well, also doing remedial with the puppy to help with reinforcing the training. The puppy is smart as a whip and we expect her to have most of her training and public work down perfect by the end of 6 months. I have been working with the little old man and he has gotten better slowly on some of the commands we wanted from the get go, but it is hard to get him to listen without turning it into a treat oriented training or going back to the e-collar training that we know he will listen to until the collar comes off. If I could go back in time on my Aussie's training, I would have punched the trainer and learned how to train the pup myself. The excessive barking usually he will hide under the bed or go to another room to bark, which has the girls go running around the house to look for what he is barking.

So our mini ausie is 8 months and right now I think a big problem he has is barking at our room mate that lives on the same floor as us. Myself and my boyfriend live with two other people in a 3 bedroom town house. When we got him a month ago from he was very scared of everything and it took him awhile to not be scared , it's still a working progress. Long story short he can be clam and laying down, and as soon as he hears our roommates door open he goes from 0 to 100, barking and growling, he'll run to to our closed door to the bed and back a few times. It's very high energy. And it takes a minute for him to calm down. If he actually sees our roommate, like he wants to come and talk to us, he'll try and nip at his fingers. He Does Not do this with strangers. We can go for walks and he's perfectly fine, won't even bark once at people we may encounter. When trying to get him to not barking at our roommate, does he need to help in the training other than just stand there?

My 4 year old Australian Shepherd is getting worse at barking at our neighbors. When I let her out the front door, she immediately charges out, starts barking at the air, or maybe someone I can't see or hear. I correct her every time with a the firm "no", "quiet" and when she continues I have to use her training collar but I don't like to use it cause she'll continue and I have to turn up the the level and it feels like she'll just keep escalating and I call her to come back. Usually for everything else, I just hold up the remote and she immediately changes her behavior. But with barking, I'll say "no" and she'll be quiet and after I say "good girl" then she'll bark again defiantly. She'll pace and let out a low moan like she's unhappy with my decision and she's talking back to me. I've started use your "uh-ah" then to move her away from the window and place her in another room. That sometimes works till someone comes home. She always barks when the neighbors are out or if she sees people from the window 100yards away! We take her to the park everyday and chuck the ball or frisbee till she's completely exhausted. I'll even throw it in our backyard to wear her out but lately she's been barking at the neighbors.

My pup barks at neighbors too. We can be in the middle if playing fetch, and she'll drop that to bark at them. If we come inside, she mellows out. Unless the next door neighbor dig is out. Then she just gets more upset.

Also if we are giving him vocal attention, like talking or saying hi to him in a higher pitch voice, he will start barking at us. My aussie howls when he is excited.... he doesn't bark on walks truck rides etc...but he barked as a puppy when he started getting excited i would tell him to sit before he started to bark. I realized he usually started to get fixated or get excited before he barked so i interrupted him before he got to that point. he is 100% okay in any situation dogs cats etc... my mutt is protective of the house but she was trained for diabetic alert dog and detaining a threat on command. We were in lowes and my mutt started alerting that this older ladies sugar was low... my mutt never met this lady. I asked the lady "are you diabetic?" she said she was... i said my dog is alerting that your glucose is low she scanned her arm and he glucose was at 63... she ate some candy out of her purse and my mutt stopped alerting. I think my aussie is starting that too...he sat next to the lady and never moved but thats the mutts alert as well so maybe because the mutt was doing it he decided to sit there too. My mutt will wake me up if im sleeping by growling in my ear if my glucose is low.

I found an abandoned 6 mth old Australian Shepard and holding on to her until I can find a proper home. I have 2 - 4 year old shepards (male and female) she learned very quickly to leave my femals shepard alone but my male, she loves to screw with him. I know part is her being a puppy and wanting to play but she loves to nip my male in the neck and legs and jumps on him. Took them all to run and play this morning and she runs after the femals ans back but my male she seems to heard him when hea running. any tips on how to handle, etc. I really want to get her into a good home and she’s getting pretty attached to me, but I’m trying to correct stuff before somebody takes her.

I walk him every morning and every evening, I do work from home and he’s basically with me all day long. But the parking is very irritating and embarrassing when I am in a meeting and have to talk. Hey, I also have a 4 month old. She doesn't have the same problem and is actually afraid of bigger dogs, however, a simple way to solve this is with the place command. If you get him to place, then when guests come over he should be calmer, as he will have to stay on his place. There are tons of videos everywhere on how to train place. In public, you should try to get him to heel (this channel has a video on that) and that should help. Hope this helps!

Yes mine has the hugest bark ..and he will not listen to stop and he grew out of nipping n biteing Sept blankets...on his own at about a year old.. now but he barks at my neighbors even on other side of fence n seems like he wants to bite even their kids he doesn't like strangers and doesn't understand that is not our yard...lol he won't stop barking if anyone visits me he barks the entire time ..so nobody can come visit me .. n he stresses out alot ..he had a bad possibly abusive caged barn farm start in life ..very afraid of ppl and intimidated he was last puppy n we think he was manhandled or abused especially by his tail .. but he has come a long way... first year is the hardest...but .. so if I can just get the bark ta stop lol

Um actually our girl has been a lifesaver with our yorkies barking ... he's really obnoxious with his barking. She gets annoyed with it to and chases him down and grabs him by the back of the neck and herds him our way and right in the house most of the time. It's to the point he acts up when I leave them out to potty I say ebony go get your brother ...go get him and bring his dumb ass here... and she does :-) she only barks when she sees birds dogs squirrels lol ...she barks at the post man too but cries when he leaves she wanted his attention LOVES PEOPLE ❤❤

Hmm watching all the aussie videos. All my 7 month aussie shepherd does is sit by my side. I heard him burp but never bark. But we have only adopted him 2 days ago. He was a rescue. That is shy and quite. My son has to much energy for our dog. 😅 But he seems curious to be near our flock and protect the chickens and ducks. He is good with other dogs. He is also great with our farm cats. But he has backed away from people. I have strangers that ask to pet him. Let him smell first and if he allows they are allowed. If he backs away, I step in between. Which I only had to do once when kids at the park rushed around to pet him. He seems to respect me and feel comfortable only when he is on my side.

Don't adopt an untrained mature Australian shepherd. It is a pain. Once an Australian shepherd gets pass the training period, it is hard to get rid of the barking and hostility against other dogs.
