Zippy ties mate. Different colours different sizes. Work out your own way to tie the zip and then you know if someone raids your pot 😉. Can also tie the line to the root and get rid of the float, not so easy to spot as well. Just need a ID tag where you tie it off.

def crab in the warmer weather and in places where there isnt much fresh water influence, scope out the areas at low tide and see where the fresh holes are then put pots upstream of them so the smell travels when the tide pushes in... as for the pot raiders, you can always attach small bait hooks upside down in the last metre or so of pot line, if there are crab in there the share farmers will be too excited and rushed and will get caught out and have a few sore fingers... used to work a treat for me in the NT when i had people raid my pots.

A man that raided my pot came to the address that was on the tag. He was a creep. Asking for where I was- saying my female name. The name tag law needs to be looked at. Noone wants their daughter, niece, female neighbour, mother.. any woman in society to be stalked; especially if she loves to fish and be outdoors. The name tag law is not safe.

I'm not sure brother, I put pots out today and had them all zip tied shut. Had about 3 or 4 jenny's in every pot and none were raided, unless they went to the effort of putting new zip ties back on them! Tie a brick to the end of the line and leave the float in the boat. Then put another brick in the pot for some weight and then drop the pot where you want. Back away from the pot and drop the line at right angles to the bank and mark the spot on GPS. The line lays flat on the bottom away from any props and nobody will know it’s there. Make up a small grappling hook and drag it past the area and retrieve the pot easy as. Never lost or had a pot raided since😊

Well I've been crabbing for a couple of years now onshore and always have a rope tied to a tree or a rock, and in that time, my pots have either been stolen or checked at least a dozen times. On 3 occasions, I caught the people in the act, and went off at them each time. It's very frustrating as after all the work we put into them, this is one of the lowest forms of theft. Strange thing is that it's not done by criminals, just normal people like you and me. The next person I see touching my pots, well I might just have to push them into the water. You probably had so many Jennys as the Bucks may have already been taken
