Zippy ties mate. Different colours different sizes. Work out your own way to tie the zip and then you know if someone raids your pot 😉. Can also tie the line to the root and get rid of the float, not so easy to spot as well. Just need a ID tag where you tie it off.

def crab in the warmer weather and in places where there isnt much fresh water influence, scope out the areas at low tide and see where the fresh holes are then put pots upstream of them so the smell travels when the tide pushes in... as for the pot raiders, you can always attach small bait hooks upside down in the last metre or so of pot line, if there are crab in there the share farmers will be too excited and rushed and will get caught out and have a few sore fingers... used to work a treat for me in the NT when i had people raid my pots.

When we got to creek we use wire pots we welded rio bar across top of it and bottom also little extra weight as creek has a ton of current with the rapids we end up catching mall rainbow trout yabbies but easier to spend the night up there catching cabbies with hands selling a bucket to chinnese shop for 50 bucks they couldn't get enough of them Idk what they'd use them for but we'd sell them carps and trouts and redfins 🍺🍻

So in the Puget Sound....NW United States in the state of Washington.....we have Dungeness Crab......it seems that certain times of the year, the females stay shallow when they are ready to lay eggs.....also it seems the crab go deeper if the temp is hot or we get a big rain. Poaching is a big problem here as well. I use colored zip ties on my doors. But no bait and no keepers is a good tell that you got thieved.

Pot raiders got so bad we're I used to live we used to put the pots in without line or float and use a grapling hook to retrieve them. Not exactly legal but figured if the fisheries weren't there to bust the raiders they wouldn't be there to bust us either.

A man that raided my pot came to the address that was on the tag. He was a creep. Asking for where I was- saying my female name. The name tag law needs to be looked at. Noone wants their daughter, niece, female neighbour, mother.. any woman in society to be stalked; especially if she loves to fish and be outdoors. The name tag law is not safe.

Tie a brick to the end of the line and leave the float in the boat. Then put another brick in the pot for some weight and then drop the pot where you want. Back away from the pot and drop the line at right angles to the bank and mark the spot on GPS. The line lays flat on the bottom away from any props and nobody will know it’s there. Make up a small grappling hook and drag it past the area and retrieve the pot easy as. Never lost or had a pot raided since😊

Had about 3 or 4 jenny's in every pot and none were raided, unless they went to the effort of putting new zip ties back on them!
