@@miltonfriedman7349 Mr. FUD doesn't tell you that all these accusations come from a lawsuit that has been dismissed due to lack of pursuit by the plantiff (who apparently sold the story to TMZ gossip media in August, and Mr. FUD is reciting as "fact."). There's a much larger (and interesting! story) here than he wants you to know. He has a preexisting hatred for Pit Bulls (and Cesar's advocacy for them), which makes him _WANT_ this gossip to be true.

@@markfuller Thinking pitbulls, a breed of dog that killed more children last year in the U.S. than all other breeds combined are dangerous does not mean that someone 'hates" pitbulls. I think Tigers are dangerous and shouldn't live in residential neighborhoods but that doesn't mean I 'hate" them. I just don't think they should be owned by "dog psychologists" that allow them to kill other dogs and maul teenage girls like Junior did. The lawsuit has not been dismissed you are once again lying to cover up Cesar's inability to control his own dog and prevent it from permanently crippling children. No one sold the story to TMZ that's just another lie. Cesar will be settling out of court soon so that he can continue to tell people that he knows how to train dogs.....except of course for his own.

Wrong. Good trainers use LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive). This principle is understood by any trainer certified by IAABC or CCPDT. Proper behavior modification understands you can use positive or negative forms of reward or punishment. The technique illustrated uses positive punishment, the worst one for training and the one most likely to cause unintended consequences, like fear of strangers or people. Instead you could use a combination of positive reward and negative punishment. Break down what the dog wants--attention and play. When it exhibits undesirable behavior--jumping on you--take away what it wants--your attention (negative punishment). Do that by simply turning away. Once the dog calms down or shows a desired behavior, turn back to the dog and give it attention and play (positive reward). If you train a sit gets him play, he will start running over and sitting excitedly in no time without jumping. No leash required at all.

The fact that it always about calm, assertive energy is easy to grasp. What's astounding is what KIND of calm or assertive you need to be. Every dog is different so being that you know which form of calm, assertive you need to be is exactly what makes you magical to the rest us. I'm always learning something new with every clip and episode of both dog whisperer and better human, better dog.
@vincef7487

I see it like martial arts. You need to learn a plethora of (calm and assertive) techniques so you are prepared for any situation that may be required. Continued OBSERVATION (your dog) and LEARNING (Cesar’s videos) helps with identifying WHAT may be required. Continued PRACTICE helps with achieving the timing that will be required for effective communication with your dog.
@markfuller
@markfuller 2 жыл бұрын
@@vincef7487 I think martial arts (and calm assertiveness) relates to what Cesar always emphasizes about being *in the moment* -- don't live in the past (letting it define what happens now), nor the future (anticipating things that haven't happened yet). The only thing that's *real* is *now*. Everything else is a thought; a story we tell ourselves, self-talk, the "inner narrative." It competes with, and deludes from what's real right now. He also emphasizes "breathe(!)". In zen, being in the moment depends upon giving up the moment. Likewise, you have to give up your breath to have another breath (to live). Not breathing properly is a sign of "retentiveness" (so to speak), a block of the flow which is a more authentic existence (in the now). Isn't that stuff all martial arts stuff? (BTW: In Cear 911, season 2, episode 2, Cesar suggests to one dog owner to enroll in a Karate class to develop calm assertiveness. He also mentions in passing that he himself learned Judo.).
@forestdwellerresearch6593
@forestdwellerresearch6593 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good observation Nerahm. Calm\assertive definitely works well but you also need to understand the character of a specific dog you may have. I adopted my 8 year old problem Pittbull and it took me a while to figure his traumas out. Poor guy...he went through so much shit and violence but he is fine now. Calm and assertive helped but you definitely need to understand more about the dog to get them to a normal happy state of mind. I dunno about the martial arts other commenters are remarking on. Nothing wrong with that of course but it is more a way of getting the owners in a similar mindframe. Not necessary if you do things right to begin with.

It's the leash and the collar up high on the neck. That's the magic.
@markfuller
@markfuller 2 жыл бұрын
@@airekblade5036 I absolutely agree. Same as a horse. ("Control the head, control the animal."). But, it's more than that too. There's a way to use the slip lead (we see people saying it doesn't work for them. It's not magic by itself.). I think this topic is like the Indian men (blind), all describing the same elephant by touch (and describing different things -- but nobody's wrong). We know it's energy (calm assertive). Dogs do sense how we feel, and they don't relate to human emotions (that we conjure as we fill the current moment with thoughts about the past and future; depression/shame about the past, anxiety about the future. The very next moment, that dog coming, is the future. We anticipate, the dog senses it...). If a dog has pent up (frustrated) energy, it's less apt to listen to discipline. They can't hear. They're in their own bubble like we tend to be -- living in "the specious moment" (our self-talk). If you tire a dog out (really drain it) before training, a dog in a harness is much more trainable using modern 4-quadrant (positive-centric) training. If a dog respects the person. Letting the dog lead the person out the door for a walk can be a big factor. The person isn't expecting any respect. They should be walking a ferret in a harness, because they just want something to walk along that way. :) There's so many parts that can play a big role. If most are off, one thing won't typically work.

So important to train this. Worked at an Animal Hospital and lost a tooth there from a jumping dog. Also worked for a doggy training and daycare facility and can't tell you how many times coworkers and myself got busted lips from jumpers. A lot of these dogs would wait until you bend down to grab water bowls or toys and then jump up for attention before you have time to react. And yes we did try to train these jumpers not to jump but so many pet parents didn't care the dog jumps and even encouraged it so we were always starting from square one Everytime these dogs came in again. Even if you don't mind the jumping, others will, and you never know who is going to be around your jumper in the future. Seen children getting knocked over while trying to greet dogs on walks (toddlers have trouble protecting their heads while falling), the elderly getting leg wounds from the nails even when cut short (the skin gets thinner with age), and there are many other things to be had from jumping dogs (like losing teeth and busted lips...). Please, for other peoples sake, train your dog not to jump up. It will also help your dog get re-homed if something ever happens to you or your family. You can think of it as for your dog's sake as well.

@@Nini03 The dogs did not grow out of it because their owners never tried to get them to stop so they continued into adulthood with the habit. Some of our older large dogs (talking 12 years old on 100 plus pound dog) still jumped and it's because of the owners not following through with our training when the animals got home. We could teach them all we wanted at work but as soon as those dogs got home, if they were allowed to go right back to jumping or were even encouraged to do so then it made our training useless. The only dogs that stopped jumping were ones we AND the owners trained TOGETHER. It's very important, just like with raising kids, to be teaching the same thing. If you're contradicting the trainer/teacher things are never going to work. Some dogs never start jumping and thats also because some owners know never to teach them how to jump or stop it right when the puppy first starts to do it and it never becomes a problem, hence why not all dogs jump. The ones that do though were not trained not to jump as puppies most times or were even taught to jump. Example of something I see a lot:" I trained my puppy to stand and give me hugs" now when that dog gets older it's not so fun anymore and you have now taught that dog possibly a multitude of things they would never had started to begin with. Like that hug often times morphs into the excessive jumping and throwing themselves at the owner. All of that would never have started had they not taught the dog to stand and lean on them. If you do teach them such things you need to teach them there is a time and place for it (this can be done by teaching them to get focused before and during training so they know it's time) and make the command for hugs and such not used in everyday activities so someone's not accidently saying it or gesturing it. It is possible to train dogs to jump up only on command. I too like hugging dogs when they aren't slamming into my face out of nowhere. I hope this answers your question. Ps. Thank you for the sympathy but it's ok, gives me a good way of explaining why teaching this is important. Sadly I'm not alone on this injury either, too many in the fields I have worked lose teeth to dogs. The tooth does cost a pretty penny to maintain as well and will for the rest of my life but that won't stop me from working with animals. To much joy to be had from it and I don't blame the dogs. They are just doing what they have been taught. I also wouldn't get mad at child for doing something they have been taught by thier parents that is bad, I would just try to explain why it's not good and show them a better way to express themselves. Unfortunately I can't explain that to dogs or I'm sure they would stop. They are such people pleasers and they really don't mean to harm us with their jumping, sadly the harm is just an outcome a lot of the time. I just ask that as these dogs gateway to society, the humans that take them, teach them how to behave in it.

He is actually causing harm. It seems helpful in the moment but it's scientifically proven that this method of dog training causes behavior issues in time. News outlets reports that his dog killed Queen Latifahs dog and maimed an gymnist.

@@parathings Okay, then lets see this "scientifically proven" PROOF, eh? Please show us a better, more effective way to train dogs than how Cesar (or other similar balanced trainers) does it. I/we've been asking folks like you for over 15 years now, and not a single person has been able to show us this "proof" you just loooooove to talk about. I/we've seen too many of you folks shit on dog trainers like Cesar Millan who use corrections, writing essays to virtue signal, but as soon as we ask to give us links to proof to better methods/trainers, those people suddenly stop replying to us.......because they have nothing to prove! It's so pathetic. (rolls eyes) Actions speak louder than words. The proof is in the pudding. Cesar has shown the whole world his proof. Now it's your turn. Let's keep it real, man. Doing studies in a controled lab is not the same as actual REAL LIFE dog training. All your fancy scientific terms and graphs and numbers mean nothing if it can't be applied to real life situations. You think Cesar is "abusive"? Just look at how dogs correct each other. Look at mother dogs with her puppies. Boy, you are gonna be in for a big shock. LOL
@parathings
@parathings 2 жыл бұрын
@@MIZZKIE for your proof, look at military working dog, police dog, and shchutzhound are examples of not needing to use these techniques unless someone wants to cut corners for the sake of time/money or inability to learn and apply something new or just plain lazy.
