I've been a French Mastiff owner for many years and that pup was showing typical FM behaviour, they like to be in charge because they take their jobs seriously. I agree that this is a helpful video, but one thing that irritates me as a dog trainer is being overly-dramatic. At one point, in the video, the presenter proclaimed that this one of the worst cases that he has seen. The hardest pulling dog in the world???? OH PLEASE!!! That's like calling a Volkswagen Beatle the highest torque vehicle in the world. It's just laughable. I have been called to help an MMA fighter that was being dragged uncontrollably by a pitbull. Compare that to this video. The dog presented in this video is a VERY MILD CASE. Back to the MMA fighter. I had the pitbull under control in less than 10 minutes and doing automatic stops and sits when I stopped. Jaws dropped and he and his wife were taking photos and videos because they could not BELIEVE what they were seeing. Honestly, there was no magic involved. I merely applied tried and proven balanced dog training protocols. It's really pretty simple. It's a shame that reputable dog trainers like me are viewed as performing magic because of the Mal information dispersed by the incompetent positive-only crowd that's supported and encouraged by corporate media.

I know this is an older video but I really hope you see this, my dog milo is a 21kg staffy, last week he pulled me so hard I now have 6 blisters on my hand, one so severe it ripped the skin clean off, bled for days and also got infected and weeped. After using harnesses, flexi leads, spent £100s on training, slip leads, he would pull to the point he couldn’t breathe and his eyes would almost pop. I brought a prong collar after watching so many educational videos, I can now walk him with 2 fingers, he still pulls slightly however not even half as bad as he was. I kept the rubber parts on my prong collar but if he starts to disengage I will remove the rubber parts. I can’t praise a prong collar enough, it’s saved him hurting me and himself.

With the prong collar he pulled me into the road and that was the last time I used that. So all in all I'm very happy with the head collar. @CharlieLynne-143Ай бұрын
Thank you for telling your story. This is exactly why a prog collar is a critical tool in the dog training world. I honestly believe that it saves so many dogs lives. I see so many "positive Only" trainers spreading misinformation about this tool because it looks scary and painful. If used correctly it is an incredible tool that can be used to enable owners with the ability to effectively communicate especially in high distraction environments. Also, if used correctly most dogs only need the prong in the beginning and are able to step down to a Slip Lead Martingale or flat collar after your dog understands what is expected of them. I think it is dangerous when some trainers refuse to understand that they might not like to use tools such as Prong or E-collars but that doesn't mean that they can't be safe and humain if used correctly in limited situations then phased out when the behavior has been corrected. Not everyone has the time to use positive only training especially if the dog isvery large, you are not physically able to control your dog safely, or your dig is doing things that put their lives at risk, etc. I appreciate these channels for their balanced methods.

It’s great to see conscientious and appropriate use of these tools and their incredibly effective results.

Exactly. All the people that think they are cruel have never used a prong. Same.with ecollars. The same people probably dress their dogs up like kids and push them in strollers. Any tool even flat collars can be abused by people that are clueless about how to use them. Strong dogs or very high prey drive dogs absolutely need tools like this.

They are zero cruel. If you ever used one correctly you would realize they are not. It's like any other tool. You can abuse a flat collar, prong, ecollar if you don't know what your doing. Not all dogs fit one training method. Prong collars work and work great when you know what you are doing. The problem with society is the would rather put a dog down than use a tool that will help train a dog . All bc of the social media bs stigma to collars like prong and ecollar. The prongs don't hurt they are uncomfortable when the collar is engaged just like any other negative punishment.

We've been having difficulties walking him - pulling, inattentive, nose to the ground, etc. After watching one of your videos using the prong collar I ordered one: the Herm Sprenger Prong collar. What a difference that collar made on our walk this morning. We actually had a pleasant walk where he remained by my side, not crossing my path or pulling. Well done this is the best video I’ve seen on this topic - I’m so glad you’re not using food - I try to explain to people all the time to not use food when training animals - that it just teaches them to mooch - it teaches them to pick up rubbish off the ground - it teaches them to only be interested in you when you have something for them and dis engaged when you don’t- and it makes them susceptible to taking bates from strangers - Praise and correction is the best way to train any dog -it makes the bond and look to you as the pack leader- I had great Danes and I had to use a prong collar on 1 male for a short period of time - they are not a forever tool & when used correctly they’re a wonderful tool - Thank you for taking the time and having the courage to demonstrate this - I know there is so many reactive people out there who really do not know how to train problem dogs - and certainly don’t know how to deal with problem dogs - the fact is that if a dog remains a problem like this it is going to end up being put down - you have saved this dogs life - and you’ve saved a lot of other owners, a lot of pain and problems as well - a game well done

I have a Cane Corso 7months old and 90lb. This video is exactly where I am with my dog. Pulls right through slip lead and has no interest in treats when on the leash. I know I have a problem but this video makes me optimistic. Just got this type of collar today.

Really wish you could work with my dog. She pulls so hard, whenever she sees another dog she pulls to them, and lays down if i don't allow her, she also must run after every squirrel and then when i try to change direction she pulls and leans. I walk her around 3-4 times a day, but she mainly walks me. I do have a prong collar, so i'll give this a try!

My dog is the same if I let him have a run around on a training lead first to tire him out a bit hes much better but still a work in progress

This was such a helpful video. I have a foster dog who is so strong. She is a point mix, and constantly chasing squirrels and deer in my area. She's tried to pull herself in front of cars before and proceeded in pulling me down several times. I was very hesitant to use a prong collar as they seem so mean. But this video has given me the direction and confidence I need to use them appropriately in order to correct her behavior. And then hopefully her leash manners will be enough to get her adopted! Thank You!

Me too! Our foster is very good and loves dogs but I worry the pulling will lead to leash aggression if not prevented. Plus it's a pain to walk her!

Prong collars are banned in my country - I have a mixed hunting breed and he is everywhere else but focusing on me, he will not care regardless of what is done. He will choke himself to the point of throwing up, slip or flat collar (when seeing unfamiliar dogs in the distance, deers, bunnies), so we have swapped to a snout collar and it has helped a lot to at least take that pain away from him of choking himself to an extreme. We are working on it, but he is such an unmotivated dog when it comes to contact, so it's a really big challenge. We have 3 dogs, the other two are easy to correct and respond well to just a flat collar.
@rnggall96403 жыл бұрын
Snout coller (Gentil leader in the US) worked well with my BC. No pulling only 'challenge' would be for me to keep the lead slack until he needed a quick 'correction' otherwise we used it for all walks in busy places.

I have been contemplating using a prong collar with my dog. She is 2 years old now and I got her at 12 months. She is very dog reactive and very hyper vigilant. I have tried loads of different equipment and training methods but it is getting beyond a joke the pulling on the lead is the worst thing. Thank you for this video it has explained a lot to me. I know that negative reinforcement can sometimes be for the greater good. She is also food driven indoors but outdoors totally uninterested but does react well to praise. It has been a long journey and I hope to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Try a front harness with the leash, it also helps with pulling.

I've been looking for something exactly like this for my Malinois; which has been had, since most videos demonstrate or talk about training a very young puppy. My dog's about a year old now, and I adopted him at 8 months from people who didn't seem to have done much work with him. I've gotten his obedience somewhat under control at home, but taking him on walks is very tiring since he's so strong. I'm strong enough to keep him from dragging me, but his constant darting around is still troublesome. I have a slip lead, but it doesn't seem to work on him anymore; he just keeps ignoring it until he's panting and out of breath. The look of prong collars scare me, but I'm checking them out now.

Thank you for posting this video. People need to see experts using tools effectively and realize that when used properly they are literally life savers. I. know you'll get some harsh feed back on this video, but you are doing good work.

@@nicocombs4990 it could be a training tool but for a dog like this it will probably become a regular every day thing but that’s not a problem if you use it correctly

Great demo and a lovely dog! Prongs are IMHO much kinder than nose harnesses (haltis etc). I have used prongs effectively to teach new big dogs to loose lead walk. I also use one for running with my Herder at the start of the run when he’s attached to my belt harness, stops him pulling my spine through my stomach 😄

Great to see some brilliant ideas on large breeds, little pooches pulling aren't really pulling let's be real. Just received my prong collar and adjusted it to fit, looking forward to seeing how we get on, normally walking is ok it's dog reactivate I've got the problem with. Wish me luck, hopefully I'll be able to walk my dog again😊
