People should also consider their local climate. I live in technically a desert climate and have low humidity year round so humidity damage to things seems pretty rare in my neck of the woods but it doesn't hurt to be overly cautious when dealing with very pricey cardboard rectangles.

Hey solemn was me who commented yesterday with an idea like this. I understand now there not really numbers but just sustainable temp and humidity itself is what effects them. Thank you for this. Are you gonna do raw cards next? Cause I'm collecting both raw and graded :) same idea best binders and sleeves for safety and condition matienence. Bet they don't make binders with humidity control tho 🤣🤣

Does anyone know what's the recommended humidity level range safe for cards? Is the normal 30-50% fluctuation in a house okay?

Depends in what kind of room/climate you’re storing it I’d say. If you’re in a mild climate and you store it in your house with few temperature fluctuations, you’re probably fine without.

I actually prefer to store my cards in Mylar sleeves then into a top loader. I feel this method is much better then being in a slab due to the fact that the Mylar sleeve will preserve the card for literally ever. Cards can still damage inside a slab due to humidity. The Mylar will prevent that period.
@solemnyugioh
@solemnyugioh 3 жыл бұрын
If it has an opening, humidity remains a problem. Mylar may be archival storage-grade and is great for said purpose but that doesn’t mean you can ignore the climate conditions of the room your cards are stored in. Try leaving your mylar sleeved cards on an icy cold attic and let me know how they’re doing after some months.
@johnnyle648
@johnnyle648 3 жыл бұрын
@@solemnyugioh so I did exactly what you said so far, I left a holofoil card inside a Mylar sleeve and then inside a toploader ( because that’s how I protect my cards) on the floor of my attic for 2 weeks now. The card is still straight with no curve to it and minty as I remember. Gonna keep it up there for another 2 months cause that’s how confident I am in this method

@@solemnyugioh yep -- which is why using mylar requires more than just the sheets; mylar encapsulation requires that the two sheets sandwiching the object be sealed -- be it by sonic weld, heat, or suitable double-sided tape. If the sheets aren't actually sealed then the whole thing is a pretty stupid endeavour because you completely negate the main point of using polyester film over polypropylene film: its highly superior moisture barrier properties. Also, if your card isn't completely flat, it's only gonna be harder to ensure you've managed to do it right. Also, re. the parent comment; placing it in a toploader means it's gonna fall short in the whole preserving the card forever part. Toploaders are all PVC. It doesn't matter that you have that mylar in between the card and the toploader -- give it enough time and whatever that leaches out of the PVC is going to permeate through that mylar. Extremely low permeability doesn't mean impermeable. A hard polystyrene or hard polycarbonate is what you ought to be using instead of those awful toploaders. PVC is PVC; and no matter how much some manufacturer would have you believe theirs is safe because they don't use whatever additives or plasticisers, PVC is not an inert plastic.

what did you use to cut the foam. Did you just use a knife to cut around?
@solemnyugioh
@solemnyugioh 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used a simple pocket knife. The foam is slightly pre-cut into long rectangles, so it splits neatly very easily.
