Technically PSA agreed to the insured value as soon as they opened the slab. If they had a disagreement, they should have stated it before the slab was opened. Also pursue criminal fraud charges on them and they will have to bring the card to court or be charged with destruction of evidence. They'll end up just paying you to avoid the publicity. There is no way they'll win since they authenticated it in the first place.

Wish I could say I was surprised. I feel your pain, PSA did similar to me with 6 Barry Sanders rookies I PERSONALLY PULLED FROM 1989 SCORE FOOTBALL CASE BREAK, and had Barry sign MYSELF in Sacramento at a Barry/Thurman/Emmitt event in the 90's. PSA slabbed 5 of the cards, which were signed in silver sharpie, and offered me 60 dollars credit on a card they had "damaged" during the grading process....A PACK FRESH 89 SCORE BARRY WITH A BEAUTIFUL SIG..... 60 bucks!? like Keshawn says.. "C'MON MAN!!!!" I ended up taking it with a promise that a higher up in the company would oversee a complete review of my submission, and reward me accordingly. 180 days later I couldn't get my calls returned by anyone with any f--ing power/juice to credit my account and I washed my hands COMPLETELY of the situation by selling my 60$ credit to another collector for 45 bucks, and I refuse to give them another dime, EVER!

well the over demand for grading is in large part responsible for the degradation of quality grading.The number of almost common cards sent to PSA by the new gen of flippers is clogging the process.Flippers are to blame for the lack of employee or the lack of experienced employee in the grading business. And of course the more people are getting involved,the more chances you get some bad apples in the mix scamming their way through the hobby.

It isn't "initially" his fault, but a month after selling Frank this card the seller KNEW it was counterfeit and did not tell Frank (too long of a story to type it all here). Frank didn't find out for months. Still not necessarily fraud, but just poor form. Further, he has continued to sell counterfeit cards and has even tried to do additional deals with Frank. @@SportCardMadness I understand now, I see your point. It's horrible for the hobby!
@LoVEFoRTHEHoBBY3 ай бұрын
A few things!! Grading destroyed the hobby. That is why we are in the junk slab era. people are getting cards graded that for real should not be graded just to try to sell it for way more than it is worth just because it's in a slab and it has GEM 10 on it. Like come on now.There is literally warehouse workers grading people cards. Not saying anything about warehouse workers. What if that person is having a bad day is he going to give you a bad grade. only way grading can get better is if they can create laser grading or robot grading or something like that. I have over 60,000 cards and not even 1 of them are graded. If PSA grades something and says that it is authentic no matter how long ago it was whenever they graded it if it was yesterday or 25 years ago they should not be able to say its not real. Either they lost your card or a worker stole it because it took them a long time to get back with Frank. Or the person who sold frank the card somehow cracked open the slab and switched out the card. People try to say you can't crack open a slab and resell it. That is nothing compared to what scammers out there in the world today do specially for that much money. I am very sorry that this happened to you. Everyone else be cautious and safe!!

The centering on my card was just as good as the 10. My had no whitening compared to the 10. The 10 had two major red fish eye dot. You could barely notice the red dots on mine. They're only 12 graded psa 10. You would think they would they could just go into their data base and see what had been graded a 10 in the past.

@SportCardMadness thank you for responding. As I mentioned, I'm new to grading. I just want to know what the standards are before I send cards in to be graded. I don't want to waste my money getting a card graded, and the value comes back less than the cost of grading. I recently bought over a million cards from a former card dealer, mostly 80s and 90s. I did get a lot of cards from the 60s and 70s they aren't top grades card. I'm trying to sell a bulk of the cards to recoup my initial investment. We determine what grading company is best by what we buy. Ask bud light and tractor supply about the power of the consumer. As pointed out below. PSA will change when we stop inflating the value of their cards by over paying and when we stop sending them millions of cards per month. TAG grading is the best but collectors act like a cult and follow the herd over the cliff refusing to change. AI grading is long overdue and TAG is the first to bring it. Watch TAG videos. People have tried to submit the same card twice after breaking it out and the AI caught it had already graded that card! Much better than a 20 something kid who drank and partied too much the night before handing out all 10's at PSA or the employee who lost their girlfriend last night giving all 8's. PSA has too much power with no transparency. And we the collector have given them that power.

I'm praying that it is just the sleeve that is making it looked damaged but it is Definitely looking pretty messed up and I'm so scared because I shipped it in perfect shape for a once in a lifetime card.. but now it seems like it might be damaged and this mistake is very costly (millions) if it is in fact damaged. It's being graded now and I try to to call over and over and no one ever answers so I'm guessing all I can do is pray it goes well😢

I bought a card graded by HGA and sold it at a show. The buyer came to me at a later show and said it was a fake. I checked with a PSA rep there at the show and he said he thought it was a fake as well. I contacted HGA by email and have not received a reply. Avoid cards graded by HGA.

20:30 you think a corporation wants to spend more time and resources that they don't want to invest in, to bolster a customer's appraised value. that's a novel idea. They act like this because they have too much business. Some person at PSA is making a simple calculation that you are not worth their time, and they could be making more money diverting those resources elsewhere. I don't agree with it but thats the behavior you get when you grow a company to the size of someone like PSA.

I design and build some of the forensic spectral equipment used for authentication. My devices are at Quantico with the FBI. They are in jails and forensic labs all over the country. I personally feel PSA and other authenticating entities vastly overstate their abilities. I've been around some of the worlds best forgery experts, and they don't have the confidence to guarantee anything. The verbage is always "very probable" or "highly unlikely." The only times they are certain is when they find two different inks or materials that didn't exist when the forgery was supposedly made.
@lightseek885 ай бұрын
if you contacted TAG grading I bet they would love to work with you in introducing some of your spectral equipment into one of those self service grading kiosk they are supposedly working on. Would you be confident in building something that could help the hobby?

The guy who sold him the card isn’t at fault. Maybe he is a bad actor I get that and knew it was fake but PSA authenticated it so this should go back on PSA. It’s this guys fault for not declaring it for the amount he paid because PSA should have to cover for the declared amount. So $2,499 should be paid out here

I sent back a slab of a Bo Bichette auto rookie to BGS, original grade 9.5 and auto 10 - numbered 5/10 then sent back 8.5 grade and retained a 10 for the auto. I sent the card back because I had several collectors say it was a counterfeit. It was not not but BGS dropped the rating, likely because they damaged it, because how does a card go from 9.5 to 8.5 straight out of the slab. All I wanted was authentication. These companies are a joke.
@LoVEFoRTHEHoBBY3 ай бұрын
I wanted to add something else to my comment that I wrote earlier. If you were sending the card to be graded, because the auto was already graded, I'm guessing you wanted both on the slab, why did they even start trying to regrade the auto?? Hmm

Card grading companies are some of the biggest crooks. Most of the actual graders are in the hobby to profit from. Complete conflict of interest. Had a former grader from Beckett, accuse me of having a fake Low numbered prospect auto, of a player they were heavily invested into, because the other graders never mentioned that card being submitted. Then he researched the serial number on the Beckett label, and apologized for calling it a fake. Such a conflict of interests with these graders that profit from the card market. I never grade cards because of the corruption. Tell this guy to call the local FBI in Cali to investigate.

PSA lost 8 cards, took them 6 months to find them. 4 of the cert. #'s had already been removed. Strange but True.
@mjcollector1million6 ай бұрын
Terrible that this happened. Hopefully there’s a better outcome. I think PSA deserves criticism, but I don’t think you did it accurately. You should have reiterated that the guarantee does not cover autographs. That’s a big point that you didn’t touch on enough. Secondly, obviously they’re screwing him on valuation, but you should provide evidence for a better valuation. It’s an extremely rare card/auto so I don’t think they’re “cherry picking”, there are probably no sales. You said cherry picking a hundred times
@SportCardMadness6 ай бұрын
Agreed but PSA needs to be better about communicating the lack of applicability of the guarantee to autographs. Me and just about every collector I spoke with truly had no idea. He provided a sales receipt but that isn’t sufficient evidence as there are no public / recent sales; though they can certainly look at other rare autos of obscure players in this set and quickly realize $10 is asinine. Further, they have access to the registry. Reach out to owners of this card and take a dollar cost avg of the sales price. There are about 700 different ways they could have gone with this that would have been more productive and accurate.

@@SportCardMadness that’s my point, PSA doesn’t communicate it, so for your viewers, you should have drove home that point about guarantee not covering autographs. Great video though

It's so hard to go away from PSA cause it's really the only thing people value. But their grading is also super subjective. I had two vintage TCG cards come back with the same 6 grade, one with scratches and whitening one with none. Not saying it was a 10 but no shot both were a 6. Got a 6 across my whole submission 😅
