2:08 let any water drip out that might have got in there through "the whole season" ? either you're a poor mechanic for leaving water in there for the whole season or this is a secret Pro tip - how to meet UCI bike weights - pour water inside the frame
@zachwong73249 жыл бұрын
+altern8ive I mean, to be fair, water inside the frame isn't the worst thing in the world if it's a carbon bike. If you wash your bike every week, then some water might get in the frame over the season. And it's really not a big deal.
@altern8ive9 жыл бұрын
***** water inside isn't the problem, it's where it ends up. the bottom bracket shell is the lowest point and if there's no drain hole present, or routine maintenance is poor, corrosion of the bb components is inevitable. and people wonder why their bb's creak :)
@zachwong73249 жыл бұрын
altern8ive Not really. In every carbon frame I've worked on, the bottom bracket is housed inside a sleeve that protects the axle from any water (or other contaminants) that might be in the frame. For pressfit bottom brackets, that's the piece of carbon that you run up against when routing internal cables. For threaded bottom brackets, just look at any bottom bracket and you'll see a tube with rubber o-rings on each side that create a seal around the crank. As for BB creaking, it's mainly from water and dirt that flushes out grease or poor tolerances by the manufacturer.

Great video but forgot to mention to leave the rear mech in the small sproket and the front mech in the small chainring so both derailleurs have no spring tension.

With the bike on a mechanics stand, I use a leaf blower to blow all the water off (being careful not to blow water into bearings). Use a paper towel/rag to dry the chain. If it is sunny out, just bounce the bike on the rear wheel a couple of times and let it dry in the sun.

@paulhatcher46579 жыл бұрын
My top tip is to store the bike with no tension in the gear cables. So move the chain to the smallest sprokets on rear and front sets. Then your gear cables will not be in tension for a long period of time.

Very good idea to leave the chain on little ring and little sprocket to relieve rear mech tension (or remove it all together) - doesn't feel right forcing it's joints and pivots and spring on full stretch for a whole winter!
@Peter-om1zj9 жыл бұрын
Put the chain in the big ring and big sprocket then and feel all the tension and stretch on the chain and the stress on the der. joints...just saying its better for the components the other way around which seems pretty obvious so if going to store bike might as well leave it like i said

GCN any tips on a storage problem, the winter bike is stored in my brick garage with asbestos corrugated roof, the bike is covered with sheets but no matter what if not used for weeks the chain and on top of the chain rings get rust/ staining from dampness and moisture build up. Have times changed so much ... or was it just me? When my race bike was put away for the winter it was stripped down completely with all the components polished, re-greased and not reassembled until the next season.Brake and gear cables, tubulars, chain, block, bike ribbon were always replaced and the old ones recycled onto the winter bike ...
@anthonyclay49629 жыл бұрын
+Mags496 Not just you! I used to do the same back when we used steel frames in the 1970's and 1980's. After The Club Hill Climb in mid October the bike was stripped as you described. It was not rebuilt until early March ready for The Club 100 mile Reliability Trial and the first race in early April. Every 2 or 3 years I would have the frame resprayed, not that the paint was damaged it was just to follow whatever the 'fashion' was at the time. Equipment design didn't change very quickly back then either, once you had a full Campagnolo Nuovo or Super Record Groupset you were sorted for at least 10 years!

Si, you've got the bike held by the seat tube in the work stand ! I have an Ultimate cf slx and I'm pretty certain that the book supplied by Canyon with the bike says that is a no no. If I remember correctly (I'm out of the country so can't check) Canyon say to use the type of stand that supports the bike at 3 points so I've been nervous ever since when working on mine. Any opinion ? Is this likely to damage the carbon frame ?
