I don't know if it's just me, but I'm thinking this is a trend right now. Mental health first! I cut off my hair and keeping it straight bc I don't have the energy to do more. I appreciate videos like this right now bc I feel encouraged to do what's right for me in this moment. Thank you!

I found that keeping my hair either blown out or flat ironed led to the MOST moisture and length retention! I keep about 1.6” per month of growth because it’s never getting a chance to tangle. And I brush my hair nightly so wash day isn’t a mess of tangles anymore. On top of this, I’m low porosity so my hair benefits from moderate heat anyway.

I’ve been blow drying my hair, braiding it up and unbraiding it after a couple of days and wearing it waved. Wearing it natural since it has become so long, it gets too tangled and I have a handful of hair by the time I’m finished with my natural style. With it being semi straight it is much more manageable and I lose far less hair. I definitely understand.

I think embracing our hair is about what works for us! Whether someone wears it curly, straight, permed or locs I appreciate the natural hair movement bc it provided our natural hair as an option while for long it wasn't. I wore my natural hair curly for 7 yrs and then got sisterlocs bc I was tired of doing my hair😄 Whatever works!

I love this your exact sentiments😭🥰 are beautiful! I love your locs! They are Sooo beautiful sis! I notice a lot of natural mommies locking, chopping, or perming and I feel no type of way. It’s all good if you love it!❤️

Yeess. In the early 2k's it was a LOT better because you were taught how to appreciate your own natural texture and type of hair. How to deal with it and to "work" with your hair texture. To stop fighting against it and jumping to the weave and straightening the hair. Its funny to me because only in the past few years so I hear folks talking like this about "oh i can't handle natural hair. Its too much. Blah blah" Thankfully for a huge chunk of the other years this wasn't the case.

Yes I'm happy that I don't have to deal with a perm anymore, but I kept it natural for 5 years and it still is but I have also Straightened my hair alot lately!!! It's gotten long enough and thick enough so I said I have to take it easy on myself and not deal with all of those tagles!

I’m at this very same stage; Loving my hair straightened. It makes it so much more manageable and like you said u manipulate it less. I feel like it’s just become too much work and I still plan to maintain the health of my hair but I will be straightening it more often. Just like we used relaxers to make our hair more manageable this is the same but not using chemicals and I feel like we have more control with being able to keep our natural texture (not curl pattern) healthy.

I keep my hair stretched monthly. Either with rollersets or blow outs. My hair is easier to manage and I have greatly reduced my SSKs which has helped with retention. I honestly wish I had done it sooner. And your hair is beautiful in WHATEVER state you wear it in!

it’s okay to make whatever decision that makes you happy.. Ive been natural for 6yrs.. then decided to chemically color treat my hair last summer the only time I’ve done it was at 19 I’m now 36. Olaplex was brought to my attention by my colorist as she mixed it in the color.. I now use the line & it’s the best decision I’ve ever made to take care of my hair. So sad we get criticized about hair! It’s much more important things to focus on.. I digress…. It’s so good to see a woman with such positive energy & telling others to simply take care of yourself.. *Embrace who you wanna be not what the world thinks*

I’m so glad I found this video! I been natural for 6 years and I usually flat iron my hair once a year and it usually last for a month. After that I wear it natural for the rest of the year. 8 months ago I flat ironed it twice and I got heat damage in the front now it’s even harder to manage! I prefer my hair straight right now cause it cuts down on time and money with products so much so that I’m thinking about getting a relaxer again. It’s been on my mind heavy for about a month now. And I think I’m going to do it. If I ever change my mind I will start over and transition back to natural again like I did the first time. It’s okay to do what’s best for you and yours honestly

Girl I straighten my natural hair from September to May. I don’t have time for extra manipulation that unstraightened hair requires. I want to put it in a ponytail and go. As far as that sister-in-Christ rant….😳, sounds like some older SDA members in my church….🤣 May the Lord bless their heart….I’m sure they felt that they meant well. Can you give us a “week in your straight hair”? You always seem to jazz things up even though you consider yourself a plain Jane.

Rock it anyway you choose. After my big chop I realized I’m always going to think the grass is greener on the other side. I thought my hair was so damaged and looking back it was healthy and gorgeous. Comparing it to others made me want to start fresh to re-learn my hair for myself. It’s the best decision I made for my personal growth, but this time around I won’t let other naturals dictate my decisions on how to upkeep and treat my hair. Pick and choose what helps your hair thrive the most. For me it’s less styling and manipulation and my weekly deep treatments. I love my hair and I pray I continue to love my hair.

Sis, we have the same name and live in the same state, so I'm feeling you . Thank you. Thank you for this video. I love watching hair tutorials on KZbin, but at the end of the day, you have to do you. Back in the day, when I was busy with college and work simple routine like a wash, roller set, and blowing out the curls straight from my Dominican hairdresser was heaven sent. My hair didn't get damaged from the heat, and I had very long, healthy hair. Another thing that I can't deal with is putting all the food treatments in my hair. If it's not broken, then why fix it? I've even used shampoo and conditioner that people used to come at me for not being made for black hair. My hair loved the product, so I did what was easy and made me happy. My hair is still long and healthy.

I got the revlon drier and the tymo straightening comb….and i use both on medium settings to straighten my hair (i dry over night and the blowout and flat iron the next day takes maybeeeee 30-45 min) after about 6-8 weeks of it loose (washing every 10-14 days) i do a protective style for 6-8 weeks, my hair been flourishing, i can’t lie. 😂😂😂 I’m trying to retain some length before i go back my mini twists….but braid outs/wash n go/twist outs are a no for me dog. My hair is very very similar to urs in density and texture and i understand ur opinion. I even add heat to my roots on low as needed and i don’t see any changes to my hair pattern. I decided my curl pattern may just gotta loosen bc I’m over curly hair, i just want the damage to be consistent if it happens (like a Brazilian keratin treatment that loosens the whole head) i don’t want just my ends damaged, i haven’t seen damage tho. I pretty much use some kinda protein every wash.

I'm a more "mature naturalist...I too am getting worn out as I grow older and wiser with my natural hair. I found that maintaining a straight style ( I blow-dry on low or no heat) and wearing a bun, side-do or other straight protective styles, I'm growing and retaining length to my mid back length hair without the fairy knots and excessive shedding and split ends. ❤I found this video Very informative and entertaining. 😉 We shouldn't be intimidated by others opinions...that's THEIR opinion...

Babeee she had the remedy! It’s the length retention for me.. even after she cut two inches! I’m gon be straight for a While!! Wash day is gon be so much easier now!! So I’ve been blowing out my hair after a wash with my Revair and it’s so nice 😊. I’m loving the change. I do that weekly or twice a week depending on my scalp. Listen‼️ love this! I love my natural hair but now I also have two girls with very different textures and I’m in school. In this season my team me is of the utmost and you’re right - straightened natural hair gives less breakage and is easier to manipulate. I’ve actually been straightening my Oldest’s hair because it’s thick, long aNd dense and saves us tears. My bestie is this position as well. She has been enjoying her straight natural hair and just called to ask if she should keep it up. I said do you boo! It’s your hair!

I cringed everytime she passed over the sections that she already flat ironed, especially since she said that she already has HEAT DAMAGE.

One thing I don’t like is how sore my scalp gets after raking through it trying to get tangles out.

I’m SO lazy and I love my hair straightened too. I feel like a 20/10 and literally I wake up and go. My gaur also feels more moisturized and manageable!! But my scalp gets SO itchy so fast!! 😩😩😩 I feel like I need to wash it after a week because it’s so itchy. How do you keep your scalp from getting super itchy?

I have the same issue with my scalp and I'm a straight natural. After years of trying everything to stretch my washes I finally gave in and started washing more. I wash twice a week and use my Revair each time and have no problems now. The flakes and excess shedding are GONE! Just by adding one extra shampoo a week. I could never blow dry twice a week with anything but Revair...it's super gentle. I flat iron once a month and never touch up in between. A flaky scalp just means it's time for you to wash. Your body decides what your wash schedule should be.

I’ve always felt I look better with straight hair, so that’s why I prefer to wear my hair straight. I’ve been natural since 2012 and I’ve yet to really feel comfortable with my hair as it is, I love my hair I just prefer it straight

@@RachelAdina i used to wear it in wash and gos a lot but as it got longer i do more braidouts. I finally reached waist length last month and been trying to work with it n see what it likes. It’s like I’m starting my natural journey all over lol

I can't believe you felt the need to explain yourself and why are you wearing your hair a certain way... living there must be mentally exhausting

The comments and the politically correct naturals were not having it with me and my natural hair freedoms especially my sentiments about heat damage and how it doesn’t always need to be cut. I’m not pressed I just like reminding my followers and my nay sayers were I stand on black hair.
