Girl, you good. There are a ton of us straight naturals out here in real life. We need more straight hair naturals here on KZbin. These natural nazis will say you hate yourself for straightening but then wear makeup. Well does that mean they hate themselves too for not walking around with their natural face? I'm done with them. I just upgraded all of my heat tools and ready to go in 2022! Your last video was 🔥. I listened to it twice and was like "yeah girl, that's right!". 😂

Hmm never thought of it that way, although I’m not sure it’s an equal comparison. I don’t wear makeup for that reason I like the way I look naturally better but I would say wearing your face natural is like putting your hair in a quick bun or ponytail. Wearing full glam is like flat ironing your hair, you’re transforming into something forced that’s no longer natural.

Just to clarify I’m not arguing against how she wants to wear her hair I literally couldn’t care less lol my curls are a result and prize of my blackness but I’m not going to shame another black woman for not appreciating theirs.

I do wish that I could wear my hair in it's natural state. However my hair doesn't grow out evenly and it's very fine. So my hair in it's natural state looks a hot mess. So I have no other option but to wear it straight. I've tried so many times to wear it in it's natural state but it just doesn't work for my fine type of hair.

Girl you are beautiful straight or curly. Straight hair is literally JUST a different style for natural hair. The only place where I draw the line is relaxers. I haven’t had a relaxer since 2008. And people talk about rain. Chile whether you curly, straight or straight- relaxed RAIN will mess up a black women’s hair period 😂

Trust me, if Al Sharpen doesn't feel guilty for how his hair is then you shouldn't feel guilty either (and nobody questions his blackness). It's your hair on your head, on your body, and the time and effort it took to straighten out or define the curl patterns. It's your hair to flip in the faces of all the haters and really rub it in their faces!

I feel so much less alone after these videos. From the feeling of like you’re giving up on your blackness to feeling obligated to want to keep your curls alllll the way from being straight, popping in to the movement in 2016 and now choosing heat. I’m going back too! Got a press in November and was obsessed with the ease of it and how I felt about myself. Thanks for your videos!!

The reason why I think “hair can’t just be hair” is because women, BLACK women especially throughout history have been oppressed due to their natural kinks and coils, and still continue to be to this day. The problem is when black women feel “prettier” with straight hair. The reason this is is because throughout most of our time growing up (until very recently) natural black hair was not represented in the media or pop culture so we were socially conditioned into thinking that Straight Hair looked prettier because we were not represented as such. At the end of the day everybody can do what they want but this is why hair IS political and this is where the “guilt” comes from. 🤞🏽

Girl, I understand!!! I got hydrofatige from doing all those tips for curly hair. My hair was breaking so much that, I had to book an appointment with a cosmetologist to salvage the hair I had left. I could feel the difference, my end felt way more thinner than the roots. The cosmetologist told me to quit air drying, set my hair either straight or curly. Air drying weakens the hair. I wash and blow dry my hair every week, and brush it hair daily, girl, my hair is so healthy, better than when I wore my hair curly. My scalp and hair are not dry anymore and, my hair does not get tangle bacause, I brush it everyday. I blow dry my hair bacause it is more practical for me, and I don't have heat damage 🙃. I wear my curly hair once in a while.

I originally went natural (in 2014) because I dye my hair a lot, and got tired of keeping track of the last time I got a relaxer, just so I can get my hair dyed without it falling out. I believe, I intended on still wearing it straight. But, then I saw my curl pattern once I went natural and decided to just be "natural" - but throughout my journey, I only wore puff balls, occasionally did twistouts, and constantly cut my hair. I've been considering becoming a straight natural, or straighten my hair more often - as in 2017 I only wore my natural hair straight and saw how quickly it grew. Right now, I want growth and it seems I care/focus on my hair health more when its straight. BUT, I will say, days my hair ain't done, a little curly puff is convenient, lol. So torn! Thank you for sharing your experience.

I gotta agree with everything you said! That comment about the guilt hit the nail on the head for me. At the end of the day, even if our hair has a history of being politically linked and oppressed, we’re all still individuals! And as women we’re gonna wanna switch our styles up. I never see this much commentary on women of other races wanting to dye, straighten, curl, etc their hair, and keep in mind plenty of them get their hair chemically straightened/altered as well. Never seen a nonblack woman accused of self hate and insecurity from rocking extensions, but it’s a crime if we do what’s best for our patience level and personal taste! Personally i’m a stretched hair natural/heat styled natural cus this is how i retain length best, and I care about length. I’m not rocking a fully shrunken fro anymore cus even tho i think it looks bomb on me it causes endless breakage for me, and I personally want long hair. folks need to just mind their business and do them.

OMG...Those negative comments are so crazy and hateful. I absolutely love your honesty, confidence AND knowing it’s your freaking hair (like you said) and you can do what you want to do 🙌🏽 I think some of these people are jealous because you DO have a lot of confidence, can make your own decision about your hair, and do not merely follow pressure from strangers and then be unhappy. The natural hair movement is about a lot of great things like not letting employers be biased against someone who chooses to where a fro for example. Or deeming braids unprofessional. Or the beauty community not being diverse with representation or making products for all types of hair. The movement should NOT be about women bully and insulting other women by making negative judgements about their level of self-worth, accusations about not loving their cultural/being Black or anything else because of how straight or curly they choose to wear their hair. We need to be supporting and appreciating each other and our differences. If we don’t then what is the natural hair movement really about?

Agree with you. I’m going back to getting my natural hair straighten. Especially since it’s winter. I started my natural hair journey because my hair was unhealthy, breaking off and getting thin. I learn so much about how to care for my hair with deep conditioning, hair and scalp treatments etc. During my journey I would always wonder what would happen if I go back to my hair stylist to get my hair straighten, but continue doing my deep conditioning treatments at home. So that’s exactly what I doing now. I’m grateful that a learned how to care for my natural hair. I now take some responsibility for the health my hair, not just leave it all up to my stylist. If I could afford it I would pay my stylist to do it all. I have been inspired by your videos period. It’s doesn’t matter to me whether our hair is straight or curly. I’m so glad you made the video about wearing your natural hair straight. It has set me free. We can say it’s a hair journey whether it’s straight or curly. During the summer I plan going back to my natural curly hair, mostly because I bought way to many natural hair care products and would like to use them up Anyway thank you for sharing I really appreciate it👍🏽

Hey Candice I think you look amazing either way. I try to wear my hair in its natural curly state so that my daughters will love and embrace their naturally curly hair. However I do prefer my hair silk pressed. It's less maintenance and also healthy as long as your not continuously applying heat, plus the bonus is I feel more attractive with my hair straightened. Regardless do what makes you happy, I think you look beautiful either way. P.S. say hi to storm.

Honestly I can understand why you would be a straight hair natural. I’m in that process of going back to straighten my hair. Natural hair can be a lot and takes a lot out of you. It gets frustrating doing a style and it not working or some styles being hit or miss like mentioned. I’m over my hair not cooperating with me. I feel the pressure of not wanting to because I want to be the naturalist that can wear my natural hair all the time but with thick 4a/4b hair it’s draining at times. I love my natural hair and I wouldn’t go back to perms but seeing your videos gave me a new prospect and makes me not feel bad about wanting to wear my hair straight, and just doing whatever works for your hair. Love the positivity you spread, on not shaming others about how they choose to wear their natural hair. 💕

I love this! I wear my hair curly most of the time but Im getting tired too. I have VERY fine hair and it is also low density, my curls look like Im 5 years old. That's how fine my hair is. It is naturally like thi, no damage. And so having to reapply products every other day, and getting my hair wet so often, and so much manipulation is too much for my hair... it is fragile by nature, and this makes it worse. Sure it looks cute, but I dont always want to look cute. I want to look sexy sometimes, and sleek other times, even wild. My curls are a bit too cute looking. So yeah xd when my hair is straight I dont have to do much to it during the week, I put it on a bun at night, and then just add hair serum or little be of oil in the morning and it is fab! I dont have to get it wet so often, and I can see my length! So ive been thinking about it for a while. Only thing stopping me is that because it is fine hair I also have to be careful with heat. But Im experimenting right now.

Are you interested in doing how men perceive me straight hair vs natural or any interesting comparisons that have happened? I like watching story times/talk videos about people’s different experiences.

Your hair is beautiful girl. I cannot wear my natural hair straight living in New Orleans. It's either curly or permed. If I could straighten it I would!

I've had natural hair for three years... I am DONE! 😂 They will 🤡 on you and then say nooo keep your natural hair it's beautiful! Then why do I feel so frustrated and tired? Two hours a day to look like I didn't do anything! 😢

Some of these comments are really degrading. Just like there are many different shades of black, which makes us as a race so unique, but the same goes for hair. We would be a boring race if everyone wore their hair the same. Also, it's YOUR hair! Why are some people so bent out of shape about the hair that grow on YOUR head?

I’m tired of the natural hair rules. I think I just want to get back to the straight life. I’ve never experienced straight natural though. I had permed transitioning hair. 🙃

Some black women do wear their hair straight and even bash other women for wearing their hair kinky because they have self hate against their own blackness. With that being said, that doesn’t mean EVERY black women who prefers their own hair straight hates their curly/kinky hair. There are many reasons other than self hate to choose to wear your hair straight as a black woman. My kinky type 4 hair is a lot of work so I understand women wanting ease.

Our whole existence is political. It's annoying! And I don't blame you about not wanting to do your hair. I've shaved my head off twice already in less than two years and when I feel like it, I'll finally install those microlocs I've been thinking about. And yes, I do notice the tv families with light-skin daughters - and that's if you can call them that. Most are and look very much biracial.
