I am restringing my classical guitar as I watch this video on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. It's always been a tradition of mine to string and polish my guitars over the holidays while other people are cooking, getting ready, etc. It's a real satisfying thing.

You only want the 6th and 1st strings wound to the outside of the guitar on the tuning machine pegs. The other strings should be wound toward the inside at the tuning machines. This helps seat the strings better on the nut. Also, I wouldn't stretch nylon strings like that. They last longer if you let them settle a few days. It's a hassle to keep tuning it, but it's worth it and you only have to do it once per new set.

I have my first ever nylon string guitar coming. I've been playing on and working on my guitars for years - just never did nylon. Your video is the first one to recommend that the windings go to the outside for straight string pull. In fact there are videos by string manufacturers that ignore that and have a heck of a sideways break angle at the nut. Thanks for the correct info and the help. I'm ready for my first Godin nylon. Nicely done. I have never seen anyone tie off like that at the headstock end, simply they wind over the tag end. Does your method help? Also, for the inner four strings, do you wind towards the inside of the headstock (center)? It seems like this is not stated. Does it matter?

@WillHJohnson13 жыл бұрын
@malefera only certain guitars are intended for steel strings! The reason lies in the neck of the guitar...steel string guitars have necks reinforced with a "truss rod"...a big cylinder rod (like rebar in construction) that runs from end to end on the inside of the neck, generally only able to be seen at the underside of the end of the fretboard and at the headstock. The tension of steel strings will rip apart a guitar that does not have a truss rod.

I just changed new strings to my nylon guitar, but I have minor problems with D string. I've managed to strike it up to H, but it already feels so tight that if I try to strike it to D, it will snap. Also once I did that, at about C there were series of click like sounds and it had lowered to A#. I really don't want to the string to snap since there's no stores nearby where I could get new strings. I changed the string 2 days ago so they would get used to the tension.

@c00lb0y10 well, as you saw in the video, it uses a loop to anchor itself to the bridge (the string i mean). the same method might work for an acoustic guitar. but you have to remember, nylon string guitars tend to be much shorter than ordinary acoustic ones. one could give it a go though...

Awesome. My advice (if you haven't gotten that far yet) is to string your guitar in this order: Low E, A, D and then HIGH E, B, G. Otherwise, your treble strings will cross over each other and things will get real confusing! Good luck and Happy "Thankstringing!"

I wrote a pretty lengthy comment with some advice for people who are new to nylon strings, but in short, this guy did a poor job by leaving far too much slack in the string and by "pre-stretching" it. There are much better videos on this topic. Check out the videos by StewMac, Sam Ash Music, Martin Guitar and likely any other with a high view count. I've watched those other 3 videos and they all have good tips and you can pick which method(s) you like best.
@kusog311 жыл бұрын
The same he did at the bridge. After inserting the string in the hole and arcing it to the string(the "U" he mentioned), you just loop the string twice inside the "U" and tug.

Can i change my Acoustic Guitar Strings to nylon plz reply i want to play good because i cant play in Steel String
@coconutcrispy839 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Edradan If you have a steel string guitar then you can't put nylon strings on it. Watch a video on "changing steel strings" and you'll see the difference. That being said, you can play a nylon "classical" style on steel strings; it just sounds different (and creates some heavier calluses). Play "classical" music on your steel strings and when you have the funds, buy a guitar that's meant for nylon strings.
@joshuaedradan79399 жыл бұрын
+coconutcrispy83 Thx for the reply but my fingertips hurts when i play any advice or tips?
@coconutcrispy839 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Edradan Yes I have a tip: KEEP PLAYING! Your fingers hurt because you haven't built up calluses. I'm guessing that you've just started playing the guitar. The skin on your fingertips is soft and weak. You need to keep playing and you'll notice that your fingertips will get harder and you'll be able to play longer. You'd have the same problem with nylon strings. You just need to tough it out and in a couple of months you'll be able to play for hours without stopping.

+coconutcrispy83 thank you very much :)

I have a question please. Do they make Nylon strings with a barrel end like steel guitars? The reason I ask is that I have an electro acoustic steel strung guitar with an under saddle pickup and I'd like to try popping some nylon strings on it to see what it sounds like. I like the sound of a nylon guitar but I don't like a neck the size of an ironing board !

Nylon strings wont give it the correct tension. Same with putting acoustic strings on a Nylon guitar it can break it.

The three strings that you said were steel are actually nylon wrapped in metal. Classical guitars have this style of strings. I wouldn't advise putting steel strings on a classical because if the neck isn't reinforced it can actually ruin your guitar. Some classical guitars are designed with a reinforced neck and you could actually switch between steel and nylon. Take it to your guitar shop and have en check it out.

@davidj.77797 жыл бұрын
There are ball-end nylon strings (kapok 218 for ex.) but good players say that they exert less pressure on the saddle, thus less vibration transmitted to the soundboard causing weaker volume, resonance and poor sustain.
